New Virgin phone, Motorola Triumph | JULY19 | $300

I cant believe some of the arguments in this thread. Geezus you guys will argue over some weird stuff.

If your trying to say this is a high end phone just because of the processor your basically a idiot.
Look at the other features it DOESNT have that high end phones DO have.
Even basing it on the fact its prepaid doesnt make it high end.
This phone was built for prepaid service and is basically a mash up left over droid x and droid 2 parts.

For the price you pay for service with VM having this phone would be nice, but really what does it have that is so much better and warrants upgrading to it? I get the whole mobility thing. But there are some of you that are so blind by a bigger screen that you are willing to shell out another 300 bucks for the phone. What is funny is you came to VM to SAVE money. Now you will be spending more money buying another phone. probably less than six months since you bought the Optimus V.

Its a nice phone, if I had the EXTRA cash to throw around I would buy it, but only once its cracked open somewhat. However it being a moto phone and not that special I doubt it will get the attention moto phones need from the proper devs.

For the most part we are all going to have to agree to disagree on some of this. And truly wait until the phone hits the stores and gets in the wild to test it out.
Triumph beats most current phones (Sprints entire lineup) and Snapdragon processor beats dual core Tegra 2 in speed & efficiency: http://phandroid.com/2011/06/15/qua...re-tegra-2-for-flash-content-supremecy-video/

I've also sold the Intercept for as much as I paid for it and plan to sell the OV, therefore my out of pocket costs for the Triumph will be minimal. Love the plans and have a new toy every few months :)

Yeah, if you can make sure you get a good chunk of money back on your old phone, then why not get a new toy to play with?

I bought my V for the 150 price before the price went up, but now that the price went down again there's no way i can get more than 100 dollars for it, and 100 would be best case scenario. If I REALLY wanted the Triumph, like i'm sure a lot of you do, losing 50 dollars to upgrade isn't too bad, but I would say it depends on when you bought the V. How long has it been out? I got mine back in February, honestly even at the pace that phones progress these days, make it last at least a year, otherwise I would say you just have poor control over impulse buying lol.

Its coming next month!!! Can't wait. Still can't think of how to talk the wife into letting me buy it, lol. Hopefully the price isn't too steep.

I'm in the same boat, I've had 6 smartphones over the past 3 years and the wife said I have to keep my OV for two years. That's not possible for me so I've started a secret phone fund, lol. Not sure she'd even notice if I had a different phone. I've already tried talking her into it and it hasn't worked. Even offered to give the OV to her but she needs a keyboard. We'll see what happens :)

Sell the V on Craigslist and put that money into the Triumph, that might be half of what you need to pay for the Triumph. :D

Just found out the Triumph might be a re badged Huawei x6 see my post in the Motorola Triumph section..........:-\

Its not. Its got s different chipset. Triumph is the newest snapdragon and the x6 is the older. Basically its like a comparison of the thunderbolt and evo. The newest snapdragon (newest single core anyway) is a LOT faster and more efficient. Check out quadrant scores for the stock tbolt... 1800+ stock.

I think mostly they knock it because they do not know yet if they will be able to use these great custom Roms, god forbid some of us want everything on the phone to work right, but like i said the fact it has N wifi support, a flash camera, more Rom,and a better processor is good enough reasons to upgrade, and within 6 months the saving you get over a contract phone will pay for it,.
In six months if you use the 40 bucks a month plan you would save roughly 240 bucks. Now You sell the Optimus V for 100 and if you actually saved the money each month ( most people wont) you would have 340 bucks to use on a new phone. But as most people dont actually put that money aside, you only have 100 bucks to put towards the new phone. Now in six months you save another 240 bucks but a new HTC phone come out for Virgin. You just have to have it becuase ZOMG ITS THE BESTEST. It sells for 300 bucks and you can sell the triumph for 175, so your out 125 bucks.

Now lets look at this
150-100= 50 (ov buy-sell price)
300-175=125 (triumph buy-sell price)
New phone 300-175= 125

50+125+125= 300

That is how much you spent extra on phone in one years time. You would save 480 bucks a year on VM. If you put the extra cash aside then yes the monthly savings would pay for the phone sorta. Remember those prices are speculation as to what you would be able to sell the phone for. Thing is most people that want a android phone on VM will either wait for the Triumph to release or grab one at the reduced price of the Optimus V now. Used phones for VM arent in high demand from what Ive seen. Its cheap enough to pick up a phone that getting a used phone is kinda silly.

Very true. I think my OV had been well since paid off. It was like 89-90 bucks a month for sprint after all the hidden fees, surcharges, ect.

If you paid the 150 or less yes you have saved enough money to pay for the phone.Thats also based on the fact the Optimus V never broke 200 bucks. I dont see this phone releasing for less then 300 bucks. Even if it sells for 250 You would be in the whole atleast 50 bucks.

Dont get me wrong, I hope the phone is awesome and gets cracked real soon. I just think people are trying to justify buying it under false assumptions.

I would love for the Triumph to use a newer/faster iteration, but that does not appear to be the case:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)

Both Triump and X6 are using the 2nd generation 1ghz Snapdragon, with the Triumph chipset supporting CDMA. Very few devices are using the 1.4ghz 2nd gen Snapdragon or the 3rd gen's

I would imagine the point behind Moto rebranding the X6 is to cut on development/production costs, so it doesn't make much sense to add additional cost/time to throw in a significant change like a new chipset just for VMUSA/Sprint.

Bricked Or Not Bricked?

i nneedddd help guyz my optimus v only geos to the ClockworkMod Recovery But no futher says i dnt have a back up so i cant restore am i jus screwed at dis point?

Nice breakdown, but the features of the triumph will certainly get a lot of V owners to switch, the V is a good entry level android phone but that is all it will ever be.i think the truimph will be good for some time, with it's fairly new hardware.the V hardware was a little to outdated when released.

Why don't you post this in the right section and thread topic, you might just get some help.

In response to Pre,
Wikipedia clearly states the MotorolaTriumph has the same cpu/gpu as thr thunderbolt, I don't know where your getting X6 = Triumph

Look up the specs of the x6, and the design of it. Its the same as the triumph

I understand this. I was responding to how people claim the monthly savings over six months warrants purchasing a new phone every six. If your on VM to save money and buying a new phone every six months then you are not saving money. And that justification is wrong.

I hope the phone is full of pure awesomeness, my one and only concern is it is a Moto phone and well their most recent track record on unlocked phones is kinda bleh.

I think the point they were trying to make was that with VM they could buy a new phone everything 6-months and not spend more than they did before coming over to VM.

I see the value in being with VM from my previous carrier Sprint (7 years). To be the flexibility along with the cost. I can let my account lapse when other bills need to be paid over my phone bill and then turn it on at a later date without incurring costs while its not connected.

I had a family plan from the "fair & flexible" days. Which was goof for talk but had no data or messaging native to the plan they had to be addons. So I was in the market for an android but unwilling to pay the minimum monthly for an Android Family Data plan on Sprint ($129/month plus $10 per android) at $149/month along with the cost of the phone since I am alrdy a customer and only get a $150 instant rebate.

Now I pay $50/month for 2 phones and can choose not to pay 1 or both as needed when the budget gets tight. My family lives on a fixed income so without a flexible income I need flexible bills.

Since alot of familys are likely on plans like the Sprint plan and they save atleast $100 a month. Which makes some people see it as being able to buy a phone more often since they wont be wasting more money than they did before and getting to enjoy a new phone more often.

And as we all know Wikipedia is never wrong.

Considering that every specs page for the triumph, including Motorola's, say that its the same chipset as the tbolt, using the msm8655 and every specs page for the x6 says it's the msm8255, I don't think Wikipedia is wrong.

MSM8255 & MSM8655 are the same chip with different radio transmitters
What it is not is a highend chip set any more. There are 4 gens of Snapdragon and the 2nd gen is split into 2 stages with the 1.4ghz just being overclocked from the factory 1ghz and commonly called 2.5 gen. Most of us were wanting it to be the latter MSM8655T at 1.4ghz which atleast released this year.

But if u look up the Huawei x6 u will notice everything but the radio match which is easy to swap out in a sweat shop by 5 year olds in Taiwan. Also taking into account that Moto has never made a device with a 4.1 inch screen. Along with the lawsuit between the two about Huawei making bootleg devices from Moto parts which they settled out of court and are now doing business with each other. Makes u think they may have liked the products they made and are now making them with their permission seems highly likely.
