New Virgin phone, Motorola Triumph | JULY19 | $300

I am not here to argue, but i have been on plenty of forums where your words are used by kids, who know when they cannot gang up on someone they start to attack their grammar, what does the way someone types have to do with the discussion at hand,.i am sorry to offend you,i did not know there where rules on the way you type or phrase things here, you need worry more about yourself and not other users, words grammar or opinions, Moderates do this, and i to will wait till the phone is released,to continue the debate.

Ahahahahahaha I knew it.

The reason people correct bad grammar is because they want to understand what the heck you are typing out. Proper sentence structure will convey your message better. Sometimes people arent being dicks, but wanting to understand you better.

And regarding the triumph, I pre-ordered it, I'm really looking forward to it, I came from a bigger android phone to the optimus and I've been wanting to go back to a 4+ inch phone. Too bad its not the 4.7 inch phone HTC is coming out with :)

Personally I think 4.7 inches is too far. Then again, I have never been too comfortable with even 4.3" screens anyway. Personally, I think phones are starting to get a little close to the initial tablet area. The 4.1" on the Triumph will probably seem perfect for me. 4" always felt just a tad too small and I felt like 4.3 was enormous (on the Evo at least). If you want such a big screen you may want to look at the Samsung Galaxy Player 5 Samsung said they were coming out with. Just beware of Samsung's antics. I wouldn't buy a candy bar with their name on it without doing careful research on it first.

But since you will likely be one of the first people to get the device, it would be pretty awesome of you to post a mini review of it here after a day or so of using it. I'm sure a reasonable review would put a lot of people on here at ease, and since you came from a(n assumingly) higher end phone in the first place it would be nice to hear your thoughts instead of the predictable holycrapthisphoneisfrickinamazing many previous Optimus and Intercept owners are going to have.
On a slightly unrelated note, does anyone else feel like I'm spamming this thread?

I don't feel that your spamming anything, but then again I guess calling the triumph "high" end is fanboism, so maybe we're not spamming, lol.

I think it would be great to hear a review as soon as you get it, especially coming from another high end phone. I'm very much looking forward to the HDMI out and normal resolution. I got an LCD TV a few months ago, but haven't even gotten to use HD, except the couple ota HD channels I get through coax. Although, I do question how often I'll hook it to the TV just to watch Netflix. And I think the led flash on the camera will be nice to have. Seeing as how my first Android was the intercept and my second/current is the OV, I think I'll be perfectly happy with it, so long as it doesn't lag on angry birds. My bro's tbolt doesn't lag on anything, while his dinc occasionally would, so maybe the 8655 chipset will be nice and efficient for us too.

I'm still not liking those buttons, but after seeing how they are done (basically part of the screen) they may work okay, but try finding them without looking (something I do often with my OV)

With the Intercept the buttons would illuminate when your fingers touched anywhere close to them so it wasn't an issue. I prefer buttons as well but unfortunately android is going to slowly get rid of all of them (like iPhone).

That's quite unfortunate... I rely on touch to locate the buttons when the phone is in my pocket (media play and media next), so it would really be inefficient for me to have to remove the phone from my pocket/bag every time I access it.

Yep, I like buttons but if you look at Honeycomb, android has only virtual buttons (besides volume & power) and will probably be the same with Ice Cream Sandwich.

O:-)

When I had my DX I never used the HDMI output. The cable was a pain int he ass to get locally and when I did get one It wouldnt work so I sent it back twice. I never understood why people use their phone to stream netflix at home. On a trip or something similar I understand. But if your at home wouldnt it be easier to just get a hdmi cable and plug it into your pc. Plus then you can use your tv for other things like browse AC on a 32/42/52/ inch screen..

I respect peoples opinions of various things.

What bugs me is when people post things like what has been posted in this thread. Nobody has had a chance to play with the phone just yet that is posting in the thread, yet there are people trying to convince others the phone is just the best thing since sliced bread.

Facts are facts, most if not all of what I have posted are based off facts. I owned a DX, I was convinced to buy it over the Dinc. I probably would have bought a Dinc had I known at the time the bootloader was locked tighter then ft knox. But even after that phone each phone Moto has put out has been a major let down. The D2, teh Atrix, DX2 , The Droid Pro, all have been huge let downs. Then to find out this is just a rebranded phone and truthfully moto's way of getting into the prepaid market. I dont hold my breath. If HTC or LG was to be offering a better phone ala prepaid I would be more impressed. But moto has a ****ty track record. I hope Im proven wrong.

If this truly was a high end phone, well it wouldnt be launching on VM. Moto has contracted with Huawei to launch a phone in to the prepaid market and instead of maybe developing a new phone they took a existing phone slapped Motorola on it, changed a couple internals and called it a triumph. It is well known that the Huawei phones arent the greatest in the world. And really dont rank that high in quality. But because this phone says Motorola on it it is magically going to be super duper great. I dont buy that. That is why I refuse to class this as a high end phone. It is merely Moto's way of getting into the prepaid market without having to actually develop a phone.

I believe the main reason they rebranded a Huawei phone is because it is cheap. The Ideos X6 was basically made to be rebranded. If Motorola had personally built the phone, it would no doubt be expensive, but since we are paying full retail price for it, they can't allow the phone to be expensive. Motorola has never been know to make budget phones, so they went to someone who was. I believe it is more of a price issue, not a laziness issue.

And you are talking about all the things Motorola does wrong, but as we know, this phone is only a Motorola phone because they slapped that M in a circle on the back of it. If all they did was brand it and tell Huawei to use a different radio, then those Motorola problems you mentioned shouldn't litter this phone.

And yes, it isn't a secret Huawei's quality is extremely questionable, but what do you expect from a prepaid phone under 300 dollars? A solid gold back plate? A built in air conditioner? Would you like the whole thing covered in diamonds? Obviously cuts have to be made when being economically friendly, and I personally would rather the cut be on build quality and not performance. We've all seen what happens when they cut performance.

And when it comes to the performance of the device, it seems like we're well equipped here. The same processor that is in the HTC Thunderbolt and nothing but the stock frozen yogurt we know and love for it to push along seems like a good combination to me. We don't know for sure if it is going to actually perform as well was we're hoping, but so far there doesn't seem to be any evidence against it. It ran smoothly in all the hands in videos I've seen with it.

I don't know what makes you consider a phone high end, the quality of the device or the performance of it, but I personally think this COULD be considered high end. There may be dual cores out there, but so far, these single core phones are still coming out and doing extremely well.

I dont think so. The LG Optimus Black has a dual core and the new NOVA screen. It is also intended for "higher-end" users what ever that means.

Actually it isn't dual core (pocketnow is wrong) and the screen is nicer but smaller. I think I'll still get the MT...

Well it is ur link that claims its dual-core. I did alttle more digging and yes ur right only a single 1000Mhz core. Sorry I assumed ur link was accurate.

Flash support and a 4 inch screen plus a REAL name brand phone. I think this just might be what I will be waiting on and yes there is HDMI output.

That doesn't make sense to me. Why would virgin mobile be adding two phones that are spec'd nearly the same? You don't think the optimus black could be going to virgin Canada do you?

The Black obviously isn't coming anytime soon. Maybe another 3 months or so. Maybe less. Obviously isn't going to be making the jump to Dual Core, and 1 GHz is where the single core high end phones mostly stop (aside from a fee few slightly higher chips). VM is very likely to have multiple phones with these specs. I think this could be similar to how the Intercept and OV rolled out. The Intercept came first and broke new ground, and then the OV came in to immprove greatly on what the Intercept started. I'm not saying the Triumph will be a bad phone, but I'm guessing the Black is going to be an improvement with its sexier design and beautiful NOVA display and (possibly) superior cameras.

I also think this is mostly because of the Optimus V's success. With the good name that the Optimus brought, it only makes sense to bring in a much more powerful and better looking phone that shares the same Optimus name. I have a feeling that if we do get the Black, it will fly off the shelves within seconds.

From what I read the black is a GSM phone. I guess they might change the radio, but who knows. The black also has a ui overlay, which could rob performance. It would be nice though to have a variety. I still gotta scrounge up another $100 to buy the triumph though, and I don't think my wife will let me buy another one three months later, lol.

Its still a piss poor track record. And teaming with a very questionable company is suppose to make things right?

Look at the LG Optimus series of phone they are very good phones and for the money are awesome. For 300 bucks I want more then a re-branded phone from a questionable company in partnership with the worst android phone manufacturer. I guess I expect more for my money then I should.

For 300 dollars you're lucky the screen is even a capacitive touch screen. Look at similarly spec'd phones on post paid carriers. Those are in the 600 dollar area. You aren't a big bad spender with only 300 dollars. I know I've argued against this earlier, but my argument was that Cricket is coming out with a better phone for the same price. The phone is going to have a 8 MP camera with flash, Gingerbread, has a promised update to Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1.4 GHz second gen Snapdragon processor, and a nice 4" screen. Again, it's 300 dollars. Want to know who the manufacturer is? Huawei. It's not even rebranded. Huawei made the Huawei Glory specifically for Cricket. Like it or not, Huawei is the ONLY company who will ever agree to make a device like this at such a cheap price. Any other company, including LG, would most likely laugh at a prepaid carrier if they even dared ask that of them. No other company would waste their time making a powerhouse exclusive for some poor man's carrier.

Don't take this the wrong way. LG is my favorite company out of anyone. They're the only company who has NEVER let me down. The reason the Optimus V was so cheap was because we got it in February when it came out in 2010. And it was built as a low end device to begin with. By the time we get the Optimus Black (if we actually do get it) it will be outdated too. The only company that will ever build a high spec'd phone from the ground up for us is Huawei, so you pretty much have to take it or leave it. The ONLY reason VM rebranded the Ideos X6 is because people like you (no offense) would refuse to buy it if they knew the truth.

The Huawei Ideos X6 had a GSM radio too. The radio is easily changed. Sprint is supposed to get it too if that source is correct, but they were the first ones to leak a Motorola Android device for Virgin Mobile back in April, and now we have the "Motorola" Triumph.

Also, the Optimus One has a UI overlay too. Virgin Mobile made LG use stock Android because they want to create consistency in their Android devices. Ever notice that the Android buttons are in the same exact order on all three phones? The Black will come stock too. It's a shame though, cause I actually kind of like their overlay. I also always wanted their music player app, too. But I'm sure most people don't share that opinion.

I never understood why people use their phone to stream netflix at home. On a trip or something similar I understand. But if your at home wouldnt it be easier to just get a hdmi cable

HDMI out = easy way to put your torrented stuff on friend's TV's. =)

Actually I think many people would rather know it a rebranded phone myself included. I understand nobody like Motorola, Samsung, or HTC currently isnt making phones for the VM brand. Doesn't mean they arent interested. I kinda take offense because when I was shopping around for a android device on prepaid I looked at some of the Huawei phones. But Cricket doesnt have coverage in my area. Im not opposed to Huawei phones. Im opposed to buying a rebranded phone. I just dont think calling it a high end phone based off whats released via public relations for Moto and VM is correct right now.

Truthfully if the Huawei phones were so great and cheap to make and sell one of the big three would have jumped them already. Sell a phone at the price they are selling the others for...cash in the pocket.
I think most of us using VM should be offended that Moto and VM are trying to pull this off.

Ive said it a couple times is the phone releases and does good I would eat my words.
