New Virgin phone, Motorola Triumph | JULY19 | $300

Just found out about the LG Optimus V this week, and then I found out about this and the LG O Black. Sucks because I just DON'T know what to do: wait for the Triumph, wait even LONGER for the Black (which I've heard is sluggish/worse battery life than Triumph), or just jump the gun and get the V now and probably regret it. You won't regret the Optimus V. It's an absolute steal of a phone for the price. I would get it and wait to see what unfolds in the future. I'm going to enjoy my OptiV for a long while. I don't like the Triumph and I won't even consider the Black until many reviews are in. And even then the price has to drop below $200. That's just me personally. Something bigger and better is always coming down the pike. I'd get the OptiV, enjoy it, and watch how things unfold with VM and Android in the next year or so.

Sound advice; I may be inclined to follow it. This'll be my first smartphone and my first personal, extensive experience with Android OS, too. On further consideration, I suppose I'll be fine with the V for a starter. I'll wait until the verdict is in on the Black (which I'm not expecting great things from) and the Triumph (waiting for reviews on hardware quality after all the Huawei re-branding rumors being spread) before I move on.

I'm curious as to why you expect the Black to suck. From what I've read, it performs fine with some slight lag occasionally. And I would actually gander a guess and say the Optimus UI is what's causing that occasional lag on the Black, and Virgin Mobile only allows stock Android. I see no reason why it should lag at all. But obviously it won't outperform the Triumph. The Triumph's Snapdragon processor is known more for performance while the OMAP processor the Black uses is more power efficient. Still though, with nothing but stock Android to push around, neither of these phones should lag.

Personally I think you should at least wait for the Triumph to come out and see what the verdict on it is before you go with the Optimus. If it turns out bad, you can fall back on your sit back and wait plan with the Optimus. If it does turn out to be a good phone, you'll be glad you waited for the extra power and features the Triumph brings. Of course, I suppose you COULD buy the Optimus and see how the Triumph turns out. If you end up wanting the Triumph you could always send the Optimus back since it would be well within that 30 day trial period.

Plus the price hike is comming and i heard if ur on the 25 plan before it happens u can still keep it

I saw Some guy posted an email, and it said you would stay at 25 if your on that plan

So am I the only one that read that link and noticed this part?

The leaked internal Sprint Prepaid Group pdf for dealers also leaked some new handsets alongside the change to the plan prices. The devices mentioned are the $199.99 Motorola Triumph and Boost Mobile’s clamshell BlackBerry 9670 Style

Grimmlokk - I noticed the same thing, but you posted quicker than I.

So is BB charging $100 too much, or is the "leaked memo" bogus - meaning the price increase in the plans is also incorrect?

Curiouser and curiouser...

Okay, ignore the story on the pricing plans that was linked above - the writer screwed up some facts (price of Triumph, saying the unlimited $55 plan is an increase in price, when it's currently $60). The writer thankfully links her source to the story, and THAT story says the Triumph is $299. The author of the originally-linked piece hit some wrong keys.

Here's the source material for the story

Seeing this phone as not been released yet,it would be a tough question to answer.

what do u think ....

I would guess no,i think VM is seeing what has happened with the V,you have data abusers using it to tether or hot spot in their home to replace their home internet, remember, all your big providers charge extra with a cap to do this.now i do see nothing wrong with it for maybe 2gb a month, but you have hogs pulling 10 to 20 GB a month,

if u had a chose between the optimus v or the triumph witch would u mostly likey take

I would say probably not. The newer Optimus V's with the.5 baseband and froyo 2.2.2 have had the wireless tether option blocked. If you try to enable a wifi hotspot, out disables your 3g connection then gives an error message.

if i did not own a V,and was buying one for the first time i would take the triumph, just by specs alone, right know i am happy with the V,so i will wait for the reviews to see if it is worth upgrading.
