New VOIP option for GV - single app solution: GrooVe IP

I hate to rain on anyones parade but also this app should not work when Google Voice decides to start charging for the service.
Now Google announced this service would be free until the end of 2011 but they can always extend that.
They could also insert ads into outgoing calls or anything Google rules the world right now and they did not buy Skype, Microsoft did. This could get interesting

Ok,
Did more testing..
Wifi on (not connected to any SSID)
3g/4g unchecked (within GiP)
When on 3g connection (notification) goes red as it should..
When switched to 2g (cdma) connection notification showes green..

This is all with wifi enabled but not connected to any network (SSID)
Doesn't make sense to me..

Any thoughts?..

Just out of curiosity...can you think of any online service google charges for other than buying ads (as an advertiser)? I can't.

You mis understood what I said Google announced the calls would be free through 2011 and the way it goes it will more than likely be free they just said that to cover their ass.
I know Wikipedia is not a good source but in 4.7 seconds this is what I found for you because you are too lazy to google or refuse to use Google.

And another is Android market they charge for that.
Google check out they charge a fee to the CC company.
Should I go on?
I think it was on MSNBC a documentary on Google that explained how the company makes money perhaps you should quit playing WOW and get in tune with the news/the way the world works

That would be a good subject to post on a new thread as I'm sure the main subject at hand (Groove IP) will end up being over clouded by the whole Google this/that talk..
Just as the whole piracy talk was going down here..

I feel like I need help setting my groove settings. I don't know if I am even logged in correctly. In the groove settings it says google voice username. I'm guessing that is just the email account associated with voice right? And then the password is the email password?

I was just pointing that out to people that this could come to a screeching halt at anytime.
I was not saying bad things about the Dev, He treats his customers right with timely updates, But this is only a line of code away from being disabled, If Google chooses.

Hey,

Takenover83 put up a pretty good guide. Link is below:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/gen...e-free-voip-using-google-voice-groove-ip.html

The username is the username you use to log in at google.com/voice. Pretty much the email account associated with the voice account. Password is the password you use to log in at google.com/voice. Again pretty much your email password.

Correct
As long as groove goes green on the icon try your connected correctly..

But ya check out the guide posted above as well as do a search on Youtube as some users already made video guides for this app as that may help...

I understand that. I'm saying I highly doubt they will start charging in 2011 or anytime because their track record so far is that users aren't charged for anything that I'm aware of. And I agree that when they said that they are likely covering their ass.

Easy there buddy, no need to get your panties in a bunch, I wasn't assigning you a research paper, just asking the question.

But since you did the research anyway, I have to point out that none of your examples are of anything Google charges users for. What you pay in the market goes to app developers, not to Google, And Google checkout is also free for the user.

I am still not aware of anything Google charges users for.

Ok found this. We were checking for wifi connected or connecting or obtaining ip address. My guess is that when your WiFi is enabled it may periodically be trying to connect to available access points. That's likely triggering the logic to re-register. Fixed it so now we only look for connected.

Sorry. Will be up soon. Got delayed this week cause I had some surgery yesterday.
How about the issue when the call comes in and the screen is OFF,Groove IP goes in focus for a split of a second and hides without Caller ID information if you bring it back in foucus with pull down menu?! Hope you can fix it, otherwise it's pretty useless without knowing who is calling you.

Not sure why that is happening. Haven't been able to reproduce that yet. I can make it so caller id always shows up on the screen though. Still looking into it.

As I stated before, it works fine while the screen is ON (it pops up and caller ID is displayed), but as soon as it gets OFF described issue occurs. There is another user having the same problem with the app.

Agree that it's a problem and understand the steps and symptoms. Just saying I haven't been able to reproduce it yet. We're going through the code to see what could cause it. That's usually slower than being able to reproduce it. I put in a change that may fix it, but since I can't reproduce I can't guarantee it'll fix it.

I've got an apk that may have a fix if you want to test it? Otherwise the change will be in the next update.
