Newbie Question: How to get VZW Note 2 to work on other Networks

I am new to the concept of trying to get a VZW phone to work on other networks. I have a VZW Note 2 phone. I put an aio wireless sim card in it. The phone makes calls fine with the aio sim, but the phone does not connect to the internet. What can I do, if anything? I see articles about bootloading and rooting, but have no idea what I really need to do to the phone to be able to modify it so any network will work and can get data to work as well. I would appreciate any help. Sorry if this question has been asked before. Thank you for your time.

Have you tried going to menu-settings-more settings - mobile networks-access point names
