I am a Samsung Galaxy s6 and recently there was a major firmware update that changed the look of the phone as well as the functionality of some of the applications. In terms of the email app there has been a very annoying change.

BEFORE THE UPDATE
I would receive emails on my phone throughout the day. When I got home from work and used my email client on my desktop and downloaded all the messages, it would automatically delete the emails off my phone email. This would allow my phone to only show the most recent non downloaded emails which was fantastic. It saved me downloading on my desktop and then going back to my phone to delete.

AFTER THE UPDATE
This function has now ceased. Despite me downloading the emails at home, my phone now keeps all the emails. I find this annoying and frustrating as every time I download emails at home I immediately have to get my phone to delete the emails. If I leave it too long I end up with "old" emails and "new" emails.

I went to the live chat at Samsung and they admitted that the upgrade did make that change and they will pass on my feedback.

I was hoping that someone here might have a work around.

Welcome to Android Central! Who is your email provider? Have you considered switching from the POP3 server to the IMAP server? IMAP doesn't physically download emails to your phone--it simply accesses the emails on the server. See more about the difference here: IMAP vs POP3

Westnet which is iinet. I will look into IMAP - but not sure that will solve my problem. Will the emails now delete after I download them from dektop client?

If you use IMAP, emails don't physically download anywhere. They remain on the server, and the email app essentially mirrors what's on the server. If you delete the email using your Email app, then the server will move that email to its Trash folder.
