$349 * 0.43 = $150.07

$349 + $150.07 = $499.07

T-Mo has the N4 for $427.99

$427.99 - $349 = $78.99

78.99 / 349 = 0.2263323782234957 OR 23%

Don't bring taxes into it. Google Play charges Tax and delivery.

I paid $387.26 and had to wait two days for my N4 to arrive from Google Play.

T-Mo has it for $460.09 including my local tax. That is with maybe 5 minutes wait time and the option for 0.00% APR financing.

I can't figure it any way that makes it a 43% markup. Are you referring to an increase on their per unit cost? Do you have figures that say what T-Mo pays per unit on N4's??? How does that compare to the cost they pay for an iPhone 5 w/ 64GB which they retail for $829.99???

It was confirmed at release that it was the same phone in every way on T-mobile and play store.

Only difference is T-mobile is price gouging on the device.

It's a 350 phone and they want 500 for it!

It is currently $427 total.

It does cost more. But they are also financing you at 0%....you pay no interest whether you make minimum payments ($17) or pay the entire thing off in 1 month. For a lot of people who cannot afford to drop $380 on a phone immediately, that is a great deal. Bonus: You get the phone immediately and do not have to jump through hoops to set it up on T-Mobile's network.

It is not gouging IMO...no one else is selling it cheaper except Google themselves. Best Buy is charging $600 for it I think.

Oh my mistake...

I missed the part of the post that said enter time machine and kvetch about what was as if it still is.

I wrongly assumed we were talking about information that is current to the date of the OP.

T-Mobile is providing a value that justifies the cost; they are financing you. Google Play will not do that. In addition, there is nothing stopping you from buying from Google Play anyway. T-Mobile will let you use Google Play phones as well if you want.

Gouging implies you are being taken advantage of. You are not. T-mobile is taking no options away from you, and you are not required to pay a dime more than you otherwise would.

Also, it depends on how soon you want to use your phone. I bought our phones last Wed. night and received them on Fri. night from Google. I contacted TMobile on Sat. and am now waiting for our sim cards. I don't know when they will be here although we supposedly paid for overnight delivery. There's no TMobile store here so I just did everything online. To me the savings is worth it.

Well, there's the legal definition of a contract and the layman's common use of the term. A prepaid phone plan, whether monthly or per minute, meets the legal definition of a contract. There's an offer and acceptance. The activity is legal. There's expected performance, and consideration. Despite all of that, I think it would be silly for the FTC to go after TracFone for advertising "no contract" plans.

I'm not sure why people have to believe T-Mobiles propaganda but they did not get rid of contracts in any case where you make a monthly payment on a phone. All you have to do is read their terms of service and agreement.

There is no difference in the T-Mobile version over the play store version. They are identical.

I don't see an option for that in the phone app settings, only something for internet calls. I bought my Nexus 4 from T-Mobile.

You are correct, if you buy a phone from T Mobile and they give you monthly installments, you also have a 2 year contract with that. Best to buy the phone from Google Play and charge it on a credit card.
