Nexus 5 activation, APN settings, etc.

I am receiving my Nexus 5 tomorrow, given its from Google Play, I am assuming I need to do some type of activation through ATT (already on iPhone 4G dataPro plan) to make it work. I have also been hearing about adjusting APN settings that may need to be done for N5 to work on ATT flawlessly. Any thoughts?

If you're close to an AT&T and the data isn't working then bring it in and ask them to assist. They'll get it working. If you're not close then it might be possible to do it over the phone. I'm not sure whether or not they will need to issue a new SIM or not. But over the phone they may have to switch you to a different data plan and if APN settings need changed then they should have that info for you.

I'm getting my Nexus 5 tomorrow and am also on AT&T. I have the moto x and will just use a adapter. I've been switching back and forth between it and the g2 with no issues.

I remember having to adjust the apn settings on other phones. Lately however the phones I've had have not needed this. When I had the Htc one dev edition, it promoted me to choose which carrier I was using after I installed the sim, and AT&T was listed as one of the carriers.

The iPhone may be different. If your going to get rid of it, it may be better to just get another SIM card.

From AT&Ts website. Now that being said there may be some settings issues you'll need reset for it. But fingers crossed it just works. I'll be going iPhone to nexus 5 on at&t Tuesday/Wednesday as well.

Is it iPhone Data pro 3gb LTE data plan? No issues. If ur on an old plan you'll have to get the LTE sim card and the data plan for LTE. But it'll still work fine in the 4s after that.

Agreed. I have the 5 and am not really all that worried, just need a sim adapter. My only concern is that if for some reason it didn't work and I had to go in they would try to screw me out of my grandfathered unlimited plan, which I am not letting go of!!

So I have just swapped out my Sim from my att HTC one to my nexus 5 and I'm not able to send or receive MMS. Not sure if I need to change the APN or not. And if so, does anyone know the correct one?

Should be able to find it with a search. I believe ATT uses in called "phone".

I just checked the APN on my moto x and it has two. One for the phone and one for MMS and they cannot be edited. Interesting.

There are two on my phone. One is att phone and the other is att WAP. Neither of them work. I've tried editing them to other settings I've found online and nothing is working. I've also tried to create a new one but it won't let me save it.

WAP is the old one. I just board a flight in Miami to key west but will try yo post pics if the two apns.
One is literally for MMS only. I have not seen this before.

I switch phones all the time. Still got my unlimited. I got a nano to micro adapter named "noosy" from amazon for a few bucks.

I put my at&t sim in my Nexus 5 and it did a broadband activation and grab the settings from the network itself. It got the apn's all by itself which had me impressed, the moment of truth was I had LTE service when I left the house and got some tacos.

You Nexus 5 got you tacos... I knew this phone was too good to be true! But that is great to hear, cant wait to get mine tomorrow!

OK thank you. In going to see what APN settings are on my HTC one when I get home from work. Wouldn't hurt to try.

hmmm.....tacos it is, this appears to be the key. Tacos aside, that's pretty cool that the phone configures itself, definitely a leap beyond what I've read what was done for the nexus 4.

yeah it did some kind of data activation then once I got to the wifi setup stage it downloaded a 125mb update before I could go any further in setup.

I swapped the sim from my AT&T iPhone 5 into my new Nexus 5 (using an adapter). LTE registered fine and I thought all was well until I started running some speed tests and noticed really slow speed (under 2MB). I tried messing with APN settings, nothing really worked. If I could get it to fail over to HSPA+ then everything was faster...LTE, still slow. I finally broke down and called AT&T, gave them the new IMEI number, dealt with the hassle of moving my unlimited iPhone data plan over to a regular LTE Smartphone unlimited plan, and thought everything was fixed. But LTE is STILL slow. I've restored the Nexus to factory defaults and I'm starting over now that things should be right on the AT&T side of things. Any ideas? The LTE slowness behaves like it is being throttled...sometimes it will burst above 2MB but then it seems to fall back down to around 2 as though it is being throttled. I'm at work running the speed test and it typically is extremely fast so I don't think it's poor LTE coverage where I am.

I've got the same problem. MMS will not work on my Nexus 5 on AT&T. I've tried the two APNs, switching to 3G from LTE, and different texting apps. Nothing works.

Same problem with me as well. SIM from my AT&T Lumia 920 had LTE working at full speed.
But in Nexus 5, LTE speeds are at 1Mbps and HSPA+ is at 7Mbps. Anyone figured out a solution?

Edit: I'm in NYC if that thing matters.
