Hello everyone,

I have had my N5 for about a year now. I still enjoy it as much as I did on day 1. But recently I have noticed my phones battery life has been terrible. I get at best 3 hours of screen on time and I definetely need to charge my phone during the day; it won't last the entire day anymore. Now I know to some extent this is normal as batteries tend to deteriorate over time but I find this is a little excessive. How are your nexus phones in terms of battery life?

Weird, mine is also a year old and last month it seems to be declining

Mine is about eight months old and although I don't time it I can certainly get more than 3h screen-on time. I will not let the battery drop lower than 30% charge if I can help it and if possible will charge it well before it gets that low.

Hmm, what if you go in the battery settings and then click on screen. It will give you the screen on time.

I can usually get 3 or more hours of on screen time, I never let my battery go below the 50% mark and I charge it frequently as it's best for the battery.

Mine is also a year old and the battery life is bad, especially the last couple of months. I'd be lucky to get 3 hours of screen on time. It's usually around 1.5-2 by the evening with battery below 15%. I almost always need to charge it for twenty minutes to finish getting through the day.

I'm hoping for some Lollipop based improvement....

Yes, but I mean that I no longer feel the need to do that. I'll have a look later before I come to recharge, and post the result. It would have been useless to do that with my first post, since the phone was freshly charged when I sent it.

I've had my Nexus 5 since christmas and I usually get around 2 and half hours of screen time. If I'm lucky I can get 3 hours and sometimes I get less than 2 and a half hours. I'm a high school student and I leave home with a 100% charge at 6:35 A.M. The bus ride is about 50 minutes and I always have my brightness set to the lowest during that time. During school I pretty much never have my brightness above 20% as I can see fine at that level. I use it off and on during classes (playing games while I shouldn't be :P). School gets out at 2:30 P.M and then its another 50 minutes to an 1 hour ride home. Usually by the time school is done and I'm on the bus I'm below 25% and sometimes my phone dies before I get home. Although I do carry a 10000mah external battery pack so this isn't as much as an issue for me because I'll usually charge it during the bus ride home. I do hope Lollipop increases the battery life a little bit, just gotta wait for that OTA update... :)

I read somewhere, I cannot remember where that Android lollipop drains nexus 5 much faster than 4.4 is this true? What do you think?

I got mine at release and it seems to be holding up fine. Just updated to lollipop and all seems good as well.

A bug that Google discovered and rectified very quickly, end of story.

OP: As mentioned in my earlier post here's my screen-on time, with battery at 36% in this instance. Various brightness levels, fairly light use, texting, bit of YouTube, news, forums, browsing. I shall be charging soon.

That's actually amazing, I can't get my phone to last that long... Are you running LTE?

No....good 4 or 5 bar 3G H or H+ signal, most of the time. I guess the strong signal helps with battery....also, I'm using an unlocked phone free of carrier bloatware, which I imagine might make a noticeable difference. Also again, I didn't use it much for two or three months, when my G3 was the daily driver, so the battery has had less use than the phone's age would suggest.

OP: Update....things are now very different, on Lollipop. Down to 35% battery, about 2.5h screen-on time, low brightness settings, fairly light usage.

I used to get maybe around 4 hours on screen time, but after a couple months when 4.4.4 came out i was averaging around 3 hours 30 mins. After the lollipop update its definitely lower. Roughly around 2 and a half to 3 hours.

Hi!
Updated a week ago to lollipop and no problem with battery life, disconnect at 8am. and by 11 pm. Still have a 20% of battery with almost 4 hours of screen use. Working on 3G, nova louncher and no rooted...89644.jpg89643.jpg

OST on lollipop is not so good. I am afraid to even use my screen. All I did was download a Bible app and read for not even a minute and my % dropped about 3%. I use my phone most for streaming music and the battery life is fine as long as the screen is off. Also disabling Fit helped much but I was hoping for better OST.
