here it goes, i know is kinda crazy but i was desperate i tried everything;) and i noticed that the phone keep rebooting, so just by pressing the two volume buttons were enough to enter reboot mode

i entered the reboot mode but were not able to surf thru the menus, cuz the phone was still "virtually pressing the power button"

anyway to the solution, i kept pressing the volume rockers and realize the phone gave me a little more time before it restarts a few times i were able to actually start the phone and surf a little thru the menus

the time i solve this i never stopped pressing te volume keys and the power button, i surfed thru the menus to backup and reset/factory data reset THERE THE PHONE WAS ABLE TO KEEP TURNED ON

I pressed erase everything and the erase animation started
took a little time but the phone was erased and back to the factory settings for security i didn't backed up my apps (cuz im sure its a software issue) i like to find out first what app caused all this mess

hope it works for you, i am not a member of this forum but signed in to try to help everyone

I have used this app free from the play store a couple weeks after buying my phone and reading all the posts on XDA about the power button possibly having issues in the future.

My nexus 5 started doing this this afternoon. Fortunately it waited until after I watched the entire US Men's game on it.

I tried everything and ended up calling Google. They were very helpful and are shipping me a replacement device. I wish I had a simpler solution but I'm kind of looking forward to disconnecting for a few days!

i just had this problem since yesterday (6th July). I updated kitkat 4.4.4 i think bout a week ago..

i cant try resolving the issue using the steps shared above because the phone reboot too fast.. it doesnt get past the Google logo page (before the 4 colours page). and, without plugging in the charger, i can't even switch on the phone.

im not too sure how? because all the suggestions requires me to switch on the phone.. but i cant switch on my phone..

Guys my gf's Nexus 5 shutdown today and just refuses to boot up. It doesn't do anything with any of the keys pressed in any of the combinations that are defined. But once it is plugged in to the charger or USB, the google logo pops up and the phone keeps on rebooting to that logo. If the volume down key is pressed when this is happening, the fastboot mode is visible for a second and the phone keeps rebooting. No action can be done in the fastboot mode due to the quick reboot. I am attaching the video of the problem. Any help guys?

If you can get to the Google logo screen, you should be able to get into the bootloader. If you can get into the bootloader, you can pretty much do anything.

Power down. Hold the volume down button, hold it down. Turn on your phone... keep the volume down pressed....Wait for it.... You SHOULD get to a little Android dude passed out on the floor. That's the bootloader.

Just had this same issue - I figured it was something with the power button being stuck somehow, so I thought if I interrupt the power button, it might work. Try holding the VOLUME UP and power at the same time until you see the color orbs moving around. That worked for me.

Hi,
I too experienced the same problem yesterday. I'd put my fone for charging n it never rebooted. It just said Google every 5 secs n vibrated.
All I did was put back my fone to charge for abt 10hrs. After 10hrs connected it to my comp and gently tapped it on d mouse pad until it got rebooted. It does work wen u keep tapping gently until done.
Make sure u do all this with ur SIM card removed.
Its now working FINE :)
Quick tip: Use only Nexus 5 charger

I just experienced something similar. My Nexxus 5 (three weeks old) just shut down in the middle of using an ap (one that I've used before without incident) and I tried to restart by holding down the start button until it starts to boot but just as soon as the four color screen stops it shuts down again. I just tried again and although I had my phone hooked up all morning to a charger it may not have actually charged as it finally opened up and showed a charge of 0%...so perhaps that is the problem. More later. Ed

Im facing the same problem right now. It just keeps restarting itself. I tried all the tips described on this topic, but none of them worked for me. I will just keep this crazy guy plugged in the charger and restarting itself for a couple of hours to see what outcome I will have to tell you guys soon.

I kept it plugged in the charger over the night and all I could hear was its vibration motor working each 5 seconds until the sunrise. It is still not working and Im about to go crazy. One thing that makes me think it is probably a hardware issue is that every time I knock on it, it turns on, the Google and coloured balls appear, turns off, turns on again, and turns off quickly. Do any of you know whether its warranty is worldwide or not? Cause I bought it when I lived in the USA, but Im currently living in Brazil. Im really considering contacting Google to get a replacement. Thanks!

I just had the same problem shown in the video, so after reading this post I decided it was probably the power button stuck down internally. I pulled the back off to see if I needed to pick up any tools on the way home and pressed the button a few times to see if I could spot any issues. Once I put the back on again, no more boot loop. I guess I got lucky and freed the stick while I was messing with the back. Can't promise that everyone else will be so lucky, but it's worth a shot.

After 3 weeks mine is not working yet, but I have something interesting to share with you guys..
I found out a way to copy everything I had on my nexus' memory. Read below...
Keep knocking the phone's back part somewhere about 3 times per second, ( I did it on my own leg ) so you will probably be able to keep it stable and then it will turn on, but dont stop doing that, otherwise, the phone will shut down. Plug the phone to your pc through its usb cable, go to "computer" folder and locate your device in it, then you will be able to copy everything from your nexus to your pc.
I was able to keep it working as long as I was knocking it, and I could notice that the phone was locking itself constantly without pressing the power button, what made me believe that the problem comes from its hardware.
My next step will be trying to do a full factory reset through my pc by following the same procedure I just shared with you guys, and then I will see if it will maybe fix some kind of crazy internal command, in case this is the problem. Dont lose all your data, try it before returning it to the seller!

-----------UPDATE----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After many random attempts to fix it I finally succeeded!
Two hours ago I decided to teardown my Nexus 5. Disconnected the battery, removed the plastic that covers the chipset board, removed the chipset board. I really didn't find anything wrong looking from a not so high tech guy perspective, so I randomly began pressing everything around the power button area. Afterwards, I started to put everything back in it, meanwhile, plugged the usb cable and started to charge the battery, then I noticed the phone was still rebooting itself continuosly, so I put the back cover on, and tapped its back trying to make it work... I dont really know how, but it worked! The phone came back to life, and so far, has not attempted to lock itself, although, It did restarted itself twice so far. The battery icon appears normally while charging and everything seems to be quite normal. Well, IT IS DEFINITELY AN UNKNOWN HARDWARE ISSUE!
Thanks for all of your tips, guys! Try doing the same random crazy things I did, and I hope they work for all of you as well, GOOD LUCK!!!
BTW, it's 5:02am in Brazil, and I was supposed to be throwing a party because of it, but none of my friends are awake :D :D :D

After 10 happy months with my Nexus 5, I got exactly the same problem, it just reboot constantly, somethings in 'Google' screen, sometimes in 'four color balls' screen, and a few times it got to the home screen, but then it reboot again. I also get this when trying to enter in bootloader with power key + vol down.
