Nexus 5 is better than the iPhone.

Re: Nexus 5 is better then Iphone

Where did you read reviews that the screen is one of the best available? I'm genuinely interested. Every review I have read an watched say the screen is crisp and clear, but appears washed out. Most agreed that the One's and G2's screens look better and probably 70% also thought the S4 had a nicer looking screen. I too am a heavy user of Google products. I have a One GPe, Chromebook, use Chrome exclusively (other than testing how web pages I write render in other browsers), rely heavily on Drive, use Hangouts, Gmail, Docs, Google+ and Maps on a daily basis, as well as using Wallet, Keep, and QuickOffice fairly regularly. I agree that Google is doing the most to advance the mobile market at the moment, and I do not think I could switch to another OS. However, when my wife wanted to switch off of Windows Phone, I got her an iPhone. She takes so many pictures on her phone, the camera is by far the most important feature in a phone to her. No Android phone has a camera the works as good as reliably as the iPhone's.

I am using a G2 and the screen is great...as sharp and clear as the iPhone 5 if not better and it also compares favorable with my brothers S4. It's the only cell phone I have had that a picture popped up and I really consciously said to myself wow look at that screen. Some of the wow might have been the 5.2" screen as I came from an iPhone 5 and a Nexus 4.

The Nexus 5 is FREEDOM from prison phones for me with a unlocked phone and no contract carriers that I can fire when they sux.

you are unfortunately mistaken, you are merely going from one prison to another looser, bigger one. The one that claims "freedom".

Real freedom is Firefox OS, although I doubt you will like it in its current incarnation.

I have the iPhone 5S, Moto X, Samsung Galaxy S4 and soon to be Nexus 5. Why limit yourself or say one is better than the other? Have both and enjoy what each platform has to offer.

For economical reasons, if nothing else. Some have motorcycles, cars, boats, and mortgages to consider. :)

*Better* all depends on the user. For millions and millions IOS *is* better than android or just works for them. The same can be said for all those who use android, WP, or even BB10. The nexus 5 should sell well but still won't sell anywhere near as well as the iPhone simply because it isn't on every carrier so that could lead some to think that is another area in which the iPhone is *better*. Or the fact that apple can get updates out to every device on day one, even on the dreaded Big Red who likes to control everything about the phone.

You're mistaken....read his sentence again. He said he can fire his carrier whenever he wants. He said nothing about how open Android is.

It's a bit annoying that when Android starting everyone complained about how buggy it was and now that Google is scaling back and fixing that, ppl are crying that it's not so open. So far Android is still far more open than the alternatives and until I see Samsung, LG, HTC, etc. walking away from Android then I won't take a sky is falling approach. Google has an obligation to its customers to protect their data and provide them a proper experience for their services. If that means things need to be a little less open then so be it.

Either way I agree with him that the Nexus line is ultimate freedom and it just got better now that Sprint has joined the game and let us activate with them. Hopefully they'll give a bit more freedom to their prepaid.

its better than old nexus, and much others android handsets, but not that brilliant in my opinion. i mean, take a look at this for example - 1.3 mp front camera is like 2009 or 10 what's up with this?

As it should be for when it is launching. But compared to the g2, Note 3, or other recently launched android devices other than stock android, nothing about the nexus 5 is really any better than those devices. All have their + and -, but maybe one day google will really go above and beyond and launch a phone with truly one of a kind specs. (and yes I know that stock android doesn't *need* that but would still be nice)

Those of us who have none of those things buy phones, lol! :D

lol, unlocked high end phone existed forever, I fired my carrier long time ago, attribute this to N5 is... lets say, not correct.

Calling google's aggressive move to close up valuable assets in AOSP somehow "protect customers data" fly in the face of truth.

"Less open= better security" is a bs repeated by M$ since 1995, its saddening to see so called freedom-lovers embrace this falsehood.

Very few phones up until recently had bands to work on both T-Mo AND AT&T. Then you add Sprint into the mix and that number is even fewer if not invisible altogether, then add to the fact that unlocked phones that have been around "forever" have cost $600+ and not the $350 that this thing is available for. So Grats to you for firing your carrier, but HE is just now doing it and that is what HE was saying when you went on your offtopic rant about locked down Android.

I'm not "embracing" anything. But for some reason you expect Google to spend millions of dollars on developing Android and get nothing in return. Your own article even says that Google has ALWAYS locked down its apps. They simply have more than they've had before. Android is still open.......Amazon can still take a product that they spent no time creating and turn it into their own little profit machine with their own app store and all their own apps that compete directly with the company that made their software.

I'm a consumer. If I find something that I don't like about Google services or how Google is running Android then I can simply move on with my time and my money.

Re: Nexus 5 is better then Iphone

I agree. I think the Neuxs 5 is going to be better than my iPhone and it's less than half the price!

I think you need to re-math your math.

350 x 2 = 700. The iPhone 5s is $650.

Most people only use the front camera for intentionally low-quality photos or video chat. Having a lower quality camera means less latency on online video chats etc. What matters is the rear camera, which is pretty good in the N5. The SGS4 front camera is only 2MP and the iPhone 5 camera is only 1.2MP, so it's not like there is intense competition in this area.

A few points to make though...

-- Apple has a fantastic camera app and post-processing capabilities. Still bar-none except for the Nokia's.
-- Android has surpassed iOS in terms of capabilities and options.
-- Google is trying to get there but Apple has better native wireless printing.

Come tomorrow, I'll have both the N5 & 5s in hand. Gonna spend extensive time with both, and I'll settle this argument once and for all. ;)

Sorry for the crappy pic. Taken w/my N4.

You have no clue what I have gone through between Apple and AT&T but I won't bore everyone with my long story. You will understand No Contract Freedom better if you ever get stuck in a 2 year contract when your carrier moves your tower. AT&T wanted me to pay a couple of hundred bucks for some device to connect to my cable modem when I am paying over a $120 a month for service that doesn't work in a major South Florida city. That on top of Apple won't unlock my phone that I paid off since AT&T sends them the original iPhone serial numbers that I bought from AT&T that Apple replaced for $150 when it stopped working one week after the one year warranty when out. The long version is much worst but I won't ever have a locked phone or 2 year carrier contract again. I buy my own phone and if my carrier ticks me off I fire them.

Google purchased a photo App "Snapseed" back in September of last year, and has already made a lot of improvements to the software. On Oct 29th, 2013 Goggle announced new filter called HDR Scape on Snapseed, that Google had a in a major YouTube presentation below that went from Wow to Amazing.

NOTE SKIP TO THE 12:40 Minute mark since they had a technical issue that delayed the start.

I did my full time in that AT&T contract and left when it expired. For the better part of two years after the tower was moved I walking 100 yards from my front door to get some signal when I talked on the phone at home. Granted it worked except at home. I own the iPhone now that is still locked to this day. AT&T that send me the email that said my original iPhone that was replaced out of warranty for $150 from Apple could be unlocked by going to iTune and backing it up and restoring. Spoke to AT&T help desk. Been to the Apple Store and several AT&T stores and they don't care but always offer to sell me a new phone with a new 2 year contract. Homey don't play that no more. Homey does hold a grudge. Unlocked phones and No Contract carriers is Freedom.
