Nexus 5: Naked or Case?

Naked or Case?

I found a reason to get a case. I had the phone in my pocket while doing yard work, and when I took a break I took the phone out and it obviously had been activated. Airplane mode was on, one of my homescreen widgets had been removed, and the phone was seriously weird acting. So maybe for those occasions I may look into a flip case or something that will keep it from being activated in my pocket at those times.

I don't use a case and haven't in a while. Unfortunately that's also the reason for the cracks on the front of my N5 now... :-\

I just bought the lg snap on case from pure mobile. This is the best. It gives the phone a little protection and adds almost no size to the phone. The back is a similar feel to the nexus 5. The buttons are cut out as well. So it's as close as you can get to having a case while still having the feel of a naked phone.

I've not found a case I've liked. I take good care of my phones. I had my s2 for 2 years without damaging the screen did manage to scratch the camera lens though.

I have a case because I don't trust myself enough to not have one on it, though I don't drop my phone often. But as an added bonus, my case has a small kick stand on the back, which was useful this weekend while watching WatchESPN and Netflix (getting caught up on Archer).

I have a case mainly because I am used to keeping my phone on my belt. Also the added protection to my phone is nice, I get nervous carrying a naked phone haha

I personally love the feel of the phone without a case on it. I don't have a case on my iPhone 5S, but it's only $49 for a replacement if I drop it and damage it (AppleCare Plus). No such thing with the N5, but it feels twice as big with the official Google bumper case on it. I may try to find something super thin but for now it's too nice in the hand to put a case on it.

I had this problem, so I made it a habit to always lock my phone before pocketing it, as well as enabling screen lock (slide is sufficient).

I use the "Screen Off" app to reduce wear on the power button.

I have slide lock enabled, but should put a pin lock on it. That should work...

I feel the same way but really like this true bumper case Borderline Bumper | Poetic Cases

Re: Naked of Case?

Case, because I want something to protect the tempered glass SP I plan on using to protect the screen.

So you want a case to protect the screen protector... That you are using to protect your screen... That is made with gorilla glass to protect it from getting scratched... Will you also be buying a case for your case to protect your case?

A tempered glass screen protector is a lot less likely to get scratched than the gorilla glass, because gorilla glass is substantially lower on Moh's scale. I want a tempered glass SP because if it gets scratched, the GG would've been horribly scratched - and instead, the GG will still be like new.

Most cases effect a slight lip to the front of the phone, meaning the screen (and SP, if used) are slightly recessed. A tempered glass SP will protrude otherwise, and the edges are chipped much more easily than the face is scratched, so protecting it with a case means the SP can easily last the life of the phone unless circumstances cause it to have done its job absorbing frontal pressure.

You're welcome to go with your phone 'naked,' but if you choose a tempered glass SP you'll likely find yourself replacing it in time do to chips / cracks from the side, unless you have a case.

The case protecting the SP is not analogous to a case on a case.

I was always a case user, but naked now. Mainly because I can now afford to replace my Nexus if it came to the worst and I dropped it. Much better naked.

Good for you. But most people I know that don't use cases/screen protectors also have a phone that looks like its been through a war. I guess a lot of people would rather live with a cracked screen/horrible looking phone than have a case. Not me, as I value my phone and have to work hard for my money. I'll take a case and screen protector any day.

I find it unbelievable that some people have said they would rather break their phone than use some protection. <shakes head>

Must be nice. But even if I was a millionaire, I would have a case. Phones to me are too thin and light without them. I actually like a little bulk and substance.

Re: Naked of Case?

I absolutely prefer naked. But it feels irresponsible to not protect my phone so I typically have a case on it.
