I just went naked on my nexus 5. All the cases are too bulky. Wish me luck ha!

If you're referring to the black model then yes, I prefer it as mother LG gave birth to it :P Looks INCREDIBLE as far as the reviews go. But if you buy the white model then scratches will appear sooner than you think so a case will be needed.

I just examined the back of mine closely after I read your post and I see maybe a minute scratch or two. Nothing that really screams out though. But the phone could do with a little polishing with a soft cloth.

I'm still meaning to get a Cruzerlite case and I'm kicking myself I didn't get one last week when AC had them on sale. Dunno why I've been holding off. I love the look and feel of this phone without a case though.

Re: Naked of Case?

Before this potentially escalates, let's all agree that everyone has their own preferences. Many people love how their tech looks, and the manufacturers know it, so more and more devices just look awesome on their own. I can certainly understand why people wouldn't want to slap a case onto their device to alter its looks. On the other hand, these are freakin' expensive pieces of equipment that can be rendered useless in a blink of a careless eye. If people prefer not to use a case, that's totally fine, but those folks just need to understand completely that there is more risk involved.

Re: Naked of Case?

Those who should use a case:

1. Those who want to resell later on and recoup the highest $ possible
2. Those who like a pristine device with no blemishes
3. Those who don't have much money and can't afford to replace a broken device after an accident
4. Those who don't mind added bulk

Those who should not use a case:

1. Those who don't care about resale value
2. Those who love the natural beauty of the phone without a case
3. Those who can afford to replace a broken device
4. Those who like to keep the form factor slim and not add any bulk

I don't use a case for all 4 of the reasons listed above.

Re: Naked of Case?

I think just about any self-respecting adult can afford to replace a smartphone. Just seems silly to risk having to drop another $400 on a phone when you could avoid that by spending $20 on a case and adding a small amount of bulk.

I've had smartphones since they came out and I have never needed to replace one yet. I'm guessing I've owned 30+ smart phones. Had I bought a case for every phone that would be quite a chunk of change. For me the risk is minimal. Plus I hate the way cases make my phone look.

Good work. I'd say that puts you in the minority of smartphone users. I'm super careful but without a case I wouldn't have been able to make any of my smartphones last as long as they did. Then again, I keep most of mine for 2-3 years.

Re: Naked of Case?

I prefer having my phone to be naked. I LOVE the feel of the phone itself. For just about every phone I've had I bought case after case to get one that feels just right (balance of protection with feel), yet very few have that pure phone feel.

When I bought my Nexus 5, I (again) bought a case in order to protect it. I must say, I don't like it.

Re: Naked of Case?

Just got my brown leather-back (faux leather) Caseology case. It's pretty sweet!

Re: Naked of Case?

The Nexus feels extremely sexy without a case. The soft touch back does it for me. But I'm most likely gonna put a case on it pretty soon.

Many smartphones look and feel better without the case. And I have flirted with taking my case off all the time. But the thought of that one time dropping it and seeing the irreversible damage keeps my phone clothed at all times. It's way too valuable to me to take a chance like that.

Personally I feel that manufacturers have developed their phones for optimum ergonomic use and by putting it in a case, it makes them feel un-natural to use. The only time I put my Nexus 5 into a bumper case is when I am doing outdoor activities, day to day my phone stays naked.

I hate bulky cases as well. I went to TMobile and found the Tech21 case is red with clear back. Love it.

My case is pretty thin and cases can add some crazy things to your phone (remember the pepper spray iPhone case?) I cannot tell you how useful it is to have a kickstand. And when I'm showing off I just take the case off😛

I dropped my gnex once while it was cased in a sedio active case. The phone was perfectly fine. No damage.
A few months later I got tired of having the case on so I took it off. The phone slipped into the pavement getting out of the car and hit the ground pretty hard. There was no physical damage but all of the sudden the cell and wifi antenna went to crap. I had to take the phone apart and reseat all the internal connections. This "fixed" it for a few days and then it goes back to crap. In pretty sure that even though there was no exterior damage that something knocked irreparably lose.

So now I will always keep my Nexus 5 with a case on it. Also I have a toddler who loves "dada fone" and the chances of it being dropped by someone other than me are much higher.

For the caseless guys, have any of you have issues with the camera lens getting scratched with setting the phone down??

None so far and I've been naked about 3 weeks. I don't really care if it breaks, it's a phone at the end of the day. So I'm happy to take the risk of not having any case or screen protector.
