Nexus 5 ordering anxiety

I've never rescheduled my day around buying anything... But after the weeks and weeks of delays last year, I'll carry my Chromebook with me every second of the day on release day.

Assuming I will be purchasing one when it is released, my plan is as follows:

  1. Follow the announcement as it happens, whenever it happens.
  2. Order immediately.
You've got to be fast -- very fast -- but it's very possible to beat the rush and secure an order. I'm optimistic about a smooth ordering process overall, but it doesn't hurt to be proactive about it. ;)

But the day-one fray and excitement is what makes it so fun... and the shipping time so boring.

I'll be sticking with the Nexus 4... And flashing it over to Ubuntu Touch. :D

I'm waiting for a like mint Lumia 925 to arrive which I'll put into use as a daily driver > The N4 gets UT > The GNex gets Open webOS Alpha 2...

I like to tinker. I'll look at the N5 when it comes out, but there is no urgency. I keep my device plate pretty full.

I really hope the camera rumors of having a 8mp camera to keep costs down is untrue. Would definitely be deal breaker for me, would rather get a G2 and wait for cyanogen to do their thing.

My Nexus 4 will be getting Ubuntu Touch for sure. The question is whether I will stick with it or not. The converged computing thing has me extremely interested though.

I'm not decided on whether or not to pick up the new Nexus. I will see it first before I decide. It's not very likely though, as I tried a old Note 10.1 and really really loved the S pen.

You sound like me. Except I always have room on my crowded device plate for any new Nexus. If something else gets pushed off, so be it!

My GF just got the Note II and loves it. (She's stuck in a Samsung rut no matter how I brag about getting the latest Android version or what OS's I show her.)

I just flashed Ubuntu Touch to the N4... It's coming together quickly. Now is a good time to try it out. Lots of basic functions and settings are in. OTA updates are now a reality. Public release is October 17.

Full desktop convergence isn't until April and the release of 14.x desktop Ubuntu.

Thanks for giving me some of the release dates. I downloaded the Saucy Salamander 13.10 build, but I haven't tried it out yet. I also need some apps like Line, so that is also preventing me from trying it out. You should make a thread detailing your thoughts on Ubuntu Touch. Keep me posted with details in your impressions. I'm very interested.

I do have a rather lengthy thread over at webOS Nation about my experiences with Ubuntu Touch. They have been with a Galaxy Nexus up to this point. Now with the release being so close and the recent advance allowing OTA updates, I've moved it over to my N4. I'm going to try and get a video done showing how close UT is to a daily.

Here's the thread if you want a read: http://forums.webosnation.com/other-oss-devices/322994-i-wanted-try-ubuntu-touch.html

After I get the next Nexus, my wife is getting my Nexus 4. Her Galaxy Nexus will then be decommisioned. I'd like to use it to play with Ubuntu Touch. Is there a big advantage to using the Nexus 4, such as performance?

I'll have to let you know on that... I'm just getting into UT on the N4... Overall I think it runs well on the GNex though.

Another idea to try with GNex is Open Source webOS... They have an Alpha 2 out. With some luck, Open Source webOS will see a huge influx of functionality from LG in 2014 after they unveil what they've been working on behind closed doors.

For ME... I see no need to upgrade to the Nexus 5. The specs will only be SLIGHTLY better as far as the processor is concerned. LTE will be nice, but I use mostly wifi. Yes the screen will probably be 1080, but on a cellphone size screen the human eye won't pick up the difference. I'm more excited about the release of Android 4.4.

The big thing for me is battery size - up it to 3000mah and I'm on board. At 2300mah I can live with my no-LTE N4 for another year.

the rumor of 8 megapixel camera might be a dealbreaker for me. the camera has been one of the n4 weakness and if there isnt some enhancement in this 8mp that makes it a marked improvement... i can possibly hang on to the n4 for another year. i havent been hurting without lte for the last year and love pure android and kit kat on an n4 should be pretty fun.

the lg g2 is on the top of my list but again i do love pure android and the uncluttered feel of factory version.

if i do go n5... i may wait a month... i had one of the first batches and had to exchange my phone for some reason and didnt realize it until i got my replacement that i also had the headphone sound quality issue and the replacement there was no problem. i initially didnt care but now i listen to music while jogging 20+ miles a week and use it all the time.

I'm going to do the same thing. Hopefully Nexus 5 comes out soon. I've been wanting to try out Ubuntu Touch for a while but I only have one phone and I don't want to switch to Ubuntu unless I have a back up phone.

I hope this launch is not like the last one, with huge threads about shipping status and doing statistical analysis of who ordered when versus shipment times. A launch like the Nexus 7 would be great, so we could go to stores to pick up our devices the same day.

A thread like that exist for every single flagship device ever release. People just like to share tracking info about their device and complain if it doesn't get there on time as thee expect for some reason. Expect the same rush as with the Nexus 4, especially due to the price it will sell at. Either be the first to order, or wait until the smoke clear and get feedbacks to avoid any launch hardware issues.
