Nexus 5 owners with T-Mobile $30 Prepaid Plan Thread

Thanks for letting me know. That's exactly why I haven't tried the other apps like GrooveIP, etc.

Was just looking at the Vonage app terms, and it says something about using funds from your iTunes or Google Play acct to call phone numbers, so be careful you're not being charged without knowing.

It checks the number and lets you know if you're calling a free number or not.

If I understand you correctly, all phones in the US are free calls from Wi-Fi. Do you think T-Mo charges minutes if you use the app on data?

Ended up moving to the unlimited prepaid plan at $70 a month. The $30 plan now has 100MB limit on Hotspot. After that, you'll need to get a $15 plan for hotspot. Wasn't worth it for $15 bucks. The $70 gives me 2.5 GB of hotspot which is more than enough. Plus, I don't worry about my minutes/data use any more.

Wish I could have kept the $30 plan, it saved me some dough for a while.

Yep T-Mobile $30 is great but with Nexus 5 LTE consumes data much faster. I using nexus 5 only for 2 days and it ate 1.5gb to already 2gb used by Nexus 4 since November 1st. And im left with 1.5 gb till December 1st... Lol!

What do you do that uses so much data? My monthly usage is usually under 500MB but I use WiFi when at home. Just curious.

In my case, its video & music on the train. I was always under 5G per month on my Nexus 4.

Now with the Nexus 5 on LTE and a Netflix account, 5 GB is nothing.

This is all I could find Vonage app calling, unless you're already paying for Vonage service:
"...with other Vonage Mobile users"
Technically, that's what it's for. But right now, Vonage is giving everyone 3000 minutes of outgoing calls to landlines/mobiles (within the US) for free. How long that will last I do not know, but I am certainly taking advantage of it while it does last.

Would love to take advantage. But where is it documented? To activate the app I have to agree to pay for all landlines/cell calls. I read the app descr & Terms file.

It isn't documented because they don't want you to always have an expectation for it. But if you tap a contact within the app, it will show the contact's number(s) followed by a description: "free" or the Vonage logo. The vonage logo means if you tap that line, it will call their Vonage mobile app or their Vonage home phone. If you tap "free", it will call their landline/mobile line through VoIP. Point is, before you make each call, the app clearly tells you that it's free.

Thanks. I'll activate & give it a try.

Please Help
I am on T-Mobile 30 dollar perpaid plan from my old T-Mobile S3.

I seem to have an issue with turning off or losing my wifi connection and the only mobile data does not kick in. I have no bars to full bars but still no mobile data connection.I find I must toggle between network access port connections or restore default access port connection and then my mobile data will connect.

I also don't understand the constant switch to lte then hspa + with varying bar singles and I rarely see edge. This is separate problem that I have had on myS3 and problem happens at work at home. Surprisingly my N5 worked pretty well at work and at home for no apparent reason.(I don't think this will last and I will have same spotty service again tomorrow ) I still have the WiFi and mobile data issue.

Is anyone have suggestions to what's going on or any possible solutions?

Hey folks, so my Nexus 5 is on order and shipping by the 3rd. Logistics= something Google's actually not great at. In anticipation of using this plan, i'll need a sim card. Tmobile has about six different micro SIM cards on their site all ten bucks. Will it matter which one i choose when trying to use this plan? My instinct tells me it won't, just looking to be sure.

As long as it's one of the micro sims for phones it shouldn't matter.

Only two of those are MICRO SIMs. One of the Micro-SIMs (the "activation kit") is for prepaid plans, and the other for postpaid.

I am a current T-mobile customer (on an old "classic" contract plan, though my contract has been expired for months now). I just ordered a Nexus 5 (should ship Dec. 3rd) direct from google, and want to go on the $30 pre-paid plan. I ordered a new microSIM from T-mo's prepaid site. Once that and the phone have both arrived, what do I need to do to switch my current "postpaid" classic plan to the new pre-paid plan? the only plan that shows up as an option to change to on the My T-Mobile site is the generic $50 post-paid plan. Any help is very appreciated, thanks guys!!

Are you looking to keep the phone number? If so, I believe you will need to port out your number to Google Voice or perhaps another pre-paid carrier, then port back to T-Mobile.
