Nexus 5 owners with T-Mobile $30 Prepaid Plan Thread

Yes, i need to keep my existing number. I can't just have T-mobile activate the new SIM/phone on my existing account but switching to the $30 pre-paid plan? I'm not sure how to go about "porting" my number to google voice. I assumed/hoped there would be a simple way to just switch plans, keeping my same number, 'My T-Mobile' account, etc.

Yep T-Mobile $30 is great but with Nexus 5 LTE consumes data much faster. I using nexus 5 only for 2 days and it ate 1.5gb to already 2gb used by Nexus 4 since November 1st. And im left with 1.5 gb till December 1st... Lol!

I'm on the same 30 dollar plan. You still have more than 5gb data on that plan, only difference is they throttle you after the 5gb.

I am a current T-mobile customer (on an old "classic" contract plan, though my contract has been expired for months now). I just ordered a Nexus 5 (should ship Dec. 3rd) direct from google, and want to go on the $30 pre-paid plan. I ordered a new microSIM from T-mo's prepaid site. Once that and the phone have both arrived, what do I need to do to switch my current "postpaid" classic plan to the new pre-paid plan? the only plan that shows up as an option to change to on the My T-Mobile site is the generic $50 post-paid plan. Any help is very appreciated, thanks guys!!

The Walmart plan only shows up when you activate the new SIM card with the activation kit. You may be able to start the Walmart plan with a new number, then ask for your new number to be changed to your current number. You would have to keep your current plan active until after the number is transferred. I have heard that this will work, but I haven't tried it myself to know for sure.

Is there any kind of activation fee during the process of setting up the $30 prepaid plan? When checking out on the t-mobile prepaid site with the micro-sim card in my cart, it says there will be an activation fee but no amount is given. Thanks.

No. That's just a generic disclaimer to cover all situations. There is no activation fee for this plan.

I think T-Mobile restricted to watch erotic videos. Because a friend of mine shared a video and i can't watch it. He sent me a link to the website and when i click on it loads the video and then crashes.. When i use wifi it works fine. I took the restriction a while back because i couldn't read some of the articles on Wikipedia. Can anyone confirm it?

You have to go into a store and show id that you are over 18 years old. Or u call customer service and give them your ssn. I walked onto the store and it took about 5 mins.

I didn't have to do either one of those. You can just log in to My T-Mobile and remove the web guard there.

I was able to remove the filter from my account on the T Mobile website but I had to provide personal information to confirm my age.

As long as it's one of the micro sims for phones it shouldn't matter.

Thanks for the replies guys. My N5 should show up tomorrow. Think I'm going to just pick up the activation kit sold by Wallyworld themselves. As many birds as i can with as little stones as possible.

I wholeheartedly laughed out loud when reading the 'erotic videos' post...didnt think it would be real.

What did you end up doing? I'm in a similar situation.

I got it all sorted two nights ago, it was very simple. I initiated a support "chat" from the t-mobile website before I did anything, just to make sure I activated the SIM correctly to be eligible for the $30 plan, but I don't think the customer support rep did anything other than send me a link to the pre=paid SIM activation website (though he may ahve done something on his end that I didn't "see"). Basically all I did was go to the pre-paid SIM activation website, and follw the directions. At the point where it asks if you want to transfer your old number, i selected yes, and put in the appropriate information from my old (post-paid) t-mobile account. I had the customer service rep look up my account number (though you could get that from your bill or elsewhere) and when it asked for old account password, I entered the last 4 of my social security number (at the customer service reps direction). It was very straightforward, and my new phone was activated/working pretty much instantly. I'm so far very pleased with all this, I basically got a brand-new badass phone for $400, and will be saving $70/month over my previous phone bill. In 6 months or so the phone will be paid for by savings... and after that it's just extra money in my pocket. Hooray!!

I'm trying to figure out what I need to do. I purchased a micro SIM starter kit online from Tmobile for $10, which just arrived yesterday. It says something about the Simple Choice Plan. Do I need to stick with that or can I buy the $30 pre-paid plan?

If you have an activation code with your SIM starter kit (this should be the case), you can activate the Wal-mart plan with it.

I followed these directions pretty well, but for some reason I can't connect to t-mobile's LTE network. 3G and "H" work fine, but they're mad slow. I know I have LTE in the area, because my iPad on t-mobile works great here at 20+mbps. Any thoughts? Do I need some weird APN?

I love this plan soooo much! Was paying 95 a month with Verizon with an iPhone 5. Moving to 30 dollars a month is an absolute dream

Pro tip: With a 100 dollars in your account you essentially have 1000 minutes back up.

I've had this plan for several months on the N4 - it's the cat's meow for sure.

What is the story for refilling when you run out of minutes though? I've always added like $10 or $15 to my account via the T-Mo app and when the month is up, auto-refill will charge $30-X (X being what I added previously). So the other day I ran out of minutes for this month and it says I'm being charged $.10/min, but my 'account balance' is $8.50 - what does that mean?
I do feel a little stupid having been on the plan for 8 months with little to no conceptual understanding of how this works; I just never gave it much thought since it's so much cheaper than Big Red.

Any extra cash is available for up to 90 days to cover over-limit calls at $.10 for each needed minute. This unused stash will roll over if it hasn't yet expired.
