Nexus 6: Complaints, bugs & gremlins thread.

I traded in my Note 3 for a Nexus 6 on Sprint. Ive had it for about 4 weeks, here are my gripes, some technical, some personal:

Blackout Screen: Sometimes by screen will black out for no reason and with no reboot option, well you get the idea.
Auto-hang up: It's now starting to automatically hang up on people when I swipe to the right to answer. This could be an app glitch. ( I have whitepages for call blocking etc. since Nexus doesn't have that feature)
Boot up: Super slow power up. Compared to my Note 3, it's slow.
Cloud Print: this has already been mentioned
Chrome: shuts down periodically
Documents: Takes a long time to download docs. Pdf, word, csv. This was never an issue with the Note 3.
Camera: Works great. Laggy depending on what Im taking a picture of. Video is awesome ( ability to zoom in and record)

Now with all this being said, one would think I would just go back to samsung, but I can't stand TouchWiz UI, although it has some benefits.
Comments welcome. Thanks.

I am waiting for a case so this will most likely not be an issue but so far the biggest thing for me is the camera. Does anyone know if the speed of the camera is something that can be fixed with a future update?

I have seen people post on these forums that the 5.0.1 update did improve the speed of their camera. However, that doesn't make it a fact. Regardless, I'm confident it will be fixed sooner or later.

When I plug my auxiliary cord into my nexus 6 to listen to music, I get a lot of frequency noise. I don't know whether if it's my phone or it's my car. Whether I am listening to music on Spotify or that's on my phone, the audio would go low and the frequency noise would go loud and overtake the audio. I drive a BMW 2009 135i. Originally I had a Belkin aux cord and changed to a monster cable one to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't. Does anyone else have the same problem? What should I do now?

Not sure whether you're talking about distortion from the volume being too high on the phone or something else? However, if you plug in headphones does it sounds OK? I use mine with headphones regularly and it sounds fine.

They gotta fix the constant refocusing while trying to take video.

Re: Nexus 6: Complaints, bugs & gremlins thread.

I switched to the iPhone 5 when it came out, and now that my time is up, came back to Android for the Nexus 6. iPhone was not for me, and I'm a big Mac user.

Problems I've run into so far:
1. Random shut down/restarts, often while on the phone.
2. Sometimes it won't respond when I try to answer the phone, which leads to missed calls.
3. When trying to answer the phone, and it won't answer, I lose the notification and have to fight my way back to the phone app.
4. Sound is iffy. Sometimes it rings, sometimes it's staticy, sometimes sound starts way late.
5. Camera app stinks, but that's an app issue, I guess. I just downloaded another.
6. Camera is dark in hangouts. Fine in other apps, though.
7. Laggy camera.
8. Button placement on the side is awful. I keep restarting my phone.
9. Notification sounds even when sound is off, and I'm not using the notification/priority settings--just volume. WHY? I understand the idea behind the notification settings, and I like it. But if I simply use the volume button, that should just turn off all sound. If I need to not have notifications or just priority notifications, I will use notifications to control it. Otherwise, please continue to show the notification on my screen for crying out loud! Just make the phone silent when I turn the volume down. (Watch, because I got indignant, I'll find out I'm just doing it wrong. heh.)
10. Notifications don't always respond. I tap it, and it just hangs there.

It seems to me that most of these are problems that will likely get addressed with updates, so I'm not freaking out yet. I haven't run into anything that I really just hate like I did with the iPhone. As far as I can tell after using the phone for a couple weeks now, any other issues I have are just issues from adjusting to the operating system again. I ordered a case that I'm hoping will alleviate the button problem, since that's a done deal--no fix coming for that.

That's all I can think of right now. I did a factory reset, so we'll see if that changes anything. I haven't received 5.0.1 yet.

Re: Nexus 6: Complaints, bugs & gremlins thread.

Midian42 --- Wow! That's a pretty substantial problem list, and you're still happy? I haven't been able to get my hands on a N6 yet, but reading posts like this makes me want to just wait longer and see what happens. It seems to me that your N6 can't perform some of the most basic functions without problems. I can live with a less than stellar camera, especially if I have reason to hope it will improve over time. But I expect a phone to work as a phone, certainly not cut off calls or make it hard to initiate a call in the first place. And texting needs to work reliably. There's a reason why every phone comes with the ability to lower the volume or completely silence it---and, of course, it's essential that notifications come through if we want them to (and SILENTLY if that's our preference).

I know others will jump in here and say, "But my phone is working flawlessly." That's great, but what if I get one that doesn't? There have been enough reports of some of these issues that I don't think it's unreasonable to think I could end up with a phone with issues. So I keep waiting to see if there is resolution to at least some of these problems. I know there will be trade-offs with whatever phone I choose, but there are certain things that have to work. So I keep waiting and watching, trying to convince myself that it's time to order a phone (if I can manage to get one, that is). But so far, it's too much of a gamble. I'm so disappointed, with all the hype leading up to the release of the N6, this is definitely not what I anticipated.

Re: Nexus 6: Complaints, bugs & gremlins thread.

I'm still happy because most of these issues are bugs, not faults of the phone. I expect the majority of the list will get dealt with. In Google support forums, the camera issue is reported to be fixed with the update (which I've not yet received or sideloaded).

All new phones have bugs. All new operating systems have bugs. They'll work it out, and it'll be fine. *shrugs* If I didn't want to deal with the bugs, I would've waited another 6 months before buying it. If you don't want to deal with it, just wait a bit for all the kinks to get worked out.

ETA: For whatever reason, I just always find the bugs. EVERY bug. Every obscure bug that no one ever sees. Don't ask me why. I can only assume it's because I use more features in all my devices than the average user. You should see my list for Yosemite and iOS...

Re: Nexus 6: Complaints, bugs & gremlins thread.

Midian42, That is what I've been hoping--that the problems will be resolved and I will feel more comfortable buying the phone. Some of the issues are important enough that they would severely limit my use of the phone. I was hoping that they would be resolved sooner rather than later, though. Six months might be a bit too long to wait. Plus, by then the next shiny thing will be released and I might start longing for it instead!

Re: Nexus 6: Complaints, bugs & gremlins thread.

Ah, but in 6 months when you get the newest new, it'll have its own set of bugs! You can't get away from them... ;)

LOL! So true!

Although, to tell the truth, I wonder how we got to the point that it's okay for us to be sold expensive phones that have trouble performing basic functions? Yes, I understand that sometimes new products have some issues, recalls, etc. But why is it universally accepted that phones and software can be released with significant issues and that the consumer just needs to be patient and wait for them to be resolved?

I haven't volunteered to be a beta tester. And I rely on my phone, for work, for personal reasons, and for safety. I have a handicapped child and, if there were an emergency involving my child (as there has been in the past) and I received a phone call alerting me to that fact and the phone kept disconnecting or rebooting, I would be beyond angry. If I cant post to Facebook or use Instagram, I'll deal with that. But when I may not be able to rely on the basic functions of a phone, it' s a problem.

So here I sit waiting ...

Yes, my sound gradually fades in when answering calls or playing music. It doesn't fade out, but it does slowly fade in.

Has anyone figured out a solution to the fading of loud speaker audio playback for videos and music on the Nexus 6?

What camera issue is being fixed with an update? I got a camera update today.

I have noticed that Smart Lock keeps forgetting my Trusted Places. I have Home set to a Trusted Place, however many times when I get home Smart Lock doesn't activate. I go into the settings and I see Trusted Places is set to None so I have to select Home again.

Strange, mine has been working well and keeps my 'home' location. Wonder what could be different?

FFC does correct exposure indoors (everything is dark). There are some focusing issues too. The fix is in the Lollipop update, not camera.

I've had the phone for approximately two and a half weeks and it just started turning off randomly. It happened while I was on the phone today with an executive recruiter. Could have done without that

I had to acquire a filter for the 3.5 audio cable > Two phones ago, tried it without on the N6 - nope needed the filter also.
