Nexus 6/Shamu by Motorola?

What if the design language from last year is carried over to this year?

That's fine. As long as it's consistent.

Just don't want the Nexus X looking like the Moto X+1 and then the Nexus 9 looking like a large HTC One M8, two 'Nexus' devices with completely different designs, different materials, as if they're not related to one another.

Nexus is used because (theoretically) if the app runs well on a Nexus it should run well on everything. Minor performance optimizations might be needed in some cases to deal with lower end devices.

So, is it safe to assume that as long as Google is working on Android, there will always be a Nexus device?

I'm also curious to see the impact of the Android One program. From what I've read, Android One devices are basically Nexus devices on lower-end hardware.

Hard to say if there will always be a Nexus device, but so far, we've seen a Nexus phone every year for the last 5 years, good reason to believe we'll continue to see them I believe. As you mentioned, as long as Google are working on Android and evolving the platform, I'd say it's safe to continue seeing Nexus devices.

Yeah Android One is basically a low-end Nexus phones designed to be sold in developing countries or countries with low smartphone adoption rates. I think potentially large markets like India, where feature phones are extremely popular due to their low cost, are attractive markets for Google to tap into.

Problem is that places like India, feature phone pricing and plan costs are so cheap, you can be on a feature phone with a plan for close to a year and it'll still work out cheaper than the Android One, let alone whacking a plan on top of an Android One. Maybe Google will pull through and the Android One will be successful. I'd be interested to seeing one myself, just to see what a $100 gets you with a smartphone.

Back to the Nexus 6/X news has been a little quiet recently, maybe due to the IFA Germany event. Apple have their event next week, so then after that, all eyes on Google for the Nexus phone and tablet release. I don't think there are any big-name phones expected outside of the Nexus this year.

Probably later this month/early next month we'll start seeing some concrete leaks about the device.

There wasn't always a Nexus device.

So, could something else replace the Nexus line?

For example, Android One could be a good platform for developers. It's cheap and it has stock Android. Since an Android One device runs on low-end hardware, any apps you develop for it should run on pretty much anything.

"Shamu" codename and happyasian's credible report = leads me to believe 6" display.

theory of being the "sister" of the 2014 Moto X = leads me to believe ~5.2" display.

Lol who's credible report? ;)

Um the guy who leaked all of the correct info about the Moto X+1 b/c his friend works at Motorola and he has actually used the prototype of the Nexus X.

I think he was just messing with you for calling the user with nexus X info Happyasian, when his name is happasaiyan.

LOL and "credible" how? A 6" display makes little (or no) sense for a developer-focused phone.

I was pointing out that "happyasian" isn't anyone's username. And as mentioned, the poster he is referring to, happasaiyan, does deserve some credit. He has been on the money with his info.

Yeah that guy was rock solid with the leaks. We are spoiled with the inside info in these forums

It's not a Nexus unless it's called Nexus.

I think it's safe to say that, for now, there will always be at least one Nexus device in existence running the latest version of Android the way Google intends.

I agree. I do hope they've settled on at least the most current ones sharing a design language.

@happasaiyan Any Nexus X/6 (shamu) updates?

happasaiyan

You seem to be the best current source, any updates?

All of the latest rumors are saying 5.2", though what you saw was ~5.9". Seriously hoping for 5.2" or two options.

Any other details?

Re: @happasaiyan Any Nexus X/6 (shamu) updates?

He seemed like a troll to me, reading the past posts.

I'm itching for info too, but I don't think he has it.
