Nexus 6P Bending and Breaking Thread

any concern right now is okay, but unwarranted of a witch hunt on huawai. there are probably more people with malfunctioning software than these cracks in the glass.

Re: More bending issues being reported

Or, most people aren't going to admit that because most people seem to love the phone. If you let a thread on Reddit scare you away from this phone, that's fine - but you can't tell people who have zero issues with their phone that they actually do have an issue.

What's most scary is dude actually believes that a device sitting in a case just mysteriously bent on its own! How is that even remotely possible ?! I guess my 6P will be lying on my tablet and just start bending. Inside the case!

Re: More bending issues being reported

Exactly. Unless you are abusing it, it's nothing to worry about.

Exactly. . My $30,000 car has a flimsy bumper. All cars do. But since I don't purposely run it into poles and walls I don't worry about it cracking.

Re: More bending issues being reported

No, this isn't another thread about people intentionally trying to break the phone in half. People are now starting to report finding that their phones are slightly bent from normal usage.

Here's the reddit thread

https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/3rwwsf/nexus_6p_bent_after_a_week_and_a_half_of_use/

I guess I better start watching how hard I touch the screen from now on. I'd hate to be texting and bend the device while I'm typing a letter.

Is the 6P really as fragile as they say on TWiT and CNET? (able to be broken with just one hand?)

I know I will definitely be buying a 6P because I want to do things that I can't do on my Note 5 and LG G4.

However, a fragile phone does make me nervous. Obviously I'm not going to deliberately try to damage the phone, but what if I put it in my pants pocket like I do with all my other phones? Is it more prone to being cracked or bent? Does Google sell some kind of extended warranty that covers damages? (don't really want to go with SquareTrade again this time)

Thanks!

I'm more curious about what can you do on a 6P that you can't do on a note 5 or G4.

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

As ever with these things, there's a bit of a reporting bias issue. Far more people report issues (as a percentage of the whole) than do those who have no issues (or only minor gripes... there are always minor gripes). Unless there are widespread indications (ie: It is known that Marshmallow removed the ability to set a default USB mode), not just a few scattered reports (also: cracking is the most obvious failure mode for anything glass... Everyone remember the glass backs on the N4 and iPhone 4?), there's probably nothing to worry about (and if it happens to you, report it and get it replaced under warranty. No worries)

For all we know it could even be as simple as a bad batch of the back glass pieces. In mass production, there's always instances of bad batches happening. When you see news reports on something like a laptop power supply and they say to look for XX/YY date code, they had a bad run and they need to be replaced.

Having a bad run or batch can happen with anything that's mass produced. Considering Huawei's CEO mentioned that there was a rush to get these out, that increases the likelihood of some bad components slipping through the cracks. But, that's what manufacturer warrantys are for.

Re: Is the 6P really as fragile as they say on TWiT and CNET? (able to be broken with just one hand?

This is getting annoying...seriously. How do you people believe this crap? You really think a manufacturer is going to make a phone that will self destruct by touching it with your pinky? If you are dumb enough to intentionally try bending your phone, you deserve to have it bent. Idk about those who actually believe this stuff, but I treat my hard earned belongings with care. And if something bad happens to it, I blame myself, not the manufacturer, not bend-gate, not pen-stuck-in-phone-gate, not cracked-screen-cause-i-dropped-it-on-the-concrete-gate, etc.

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

I have no idea how big of an issue it is, but the important thing is if it happens, Google replaces it.

The tough part is going to be convincing them it wasn't broken on your part by being careless and that it's a defect in the hardware.. How would you prove that you didn't drop it if the back piece of glass broke

TWiT never said it was fragile, they said some jerk was intentionally destroying the phone for click-bate. I have one, and it is solid. If you put it in your back pocket and sit on it - well....

If you put an iPhone 6s or plus in your pocket it will bend, and so will the A9 and anything else that's made of metal.

These people are nuts I tell ya.

The only thing i've noticed is that "Ok Google" sensitivity is really low. Something I can whisper on my S6 but cannot register unless I raise my voice on the Nexus 6P. I'm not sure if it's a software bug, or something I can adjust myself.

Edit: Looks like some of this is a Nova Prime issue too. So i'm leaning more towards software issues.

well it is Monday....seeing all the tech sites catching up from the weekend and spreading fear about the 6P "issues"...cant wait to see what is next

A few complaints out of thousands of phones? So I'm supposed to believe this person that says the visor just shattered out of nowhere and he's saying that he knows he should use a case next time...Lol to that.

And someone said its a concern and widespread issue that the manufacturer knows about with the yellow hue...Lol to that also.

And one person out of thousands said their phone charger is broken after being dropped from 2 feet...I guess this calls for a laugh also.

I won't even address the bending issue deeply, but yes trying with all your might to bend a phone, any phone will result in a problem...common sense people.

These aren't tanks, they are cellphones, and screen color varies from device to device, mine is white, but someone else's could be either cooler, or warmer, yellow ones due make it out of the warehouse, no matter what phone we are talking about, its not a nexus 6p only problem.

The OP has a legitimate concern. I never "lol" when I hear about other users sharing problems they have with their devices. If tomorrow you woke up and the visor covering your device's camera was mysteriously cracked you wouldn't be loling. Are those issues widespread? We don't know that.
You're correct that mobile phones today aren't tanks. If I ram my $30,000 car into a pole, the flimsy bumper is going to be damaged. It's fragile. But since I don't purposely run it into poles I don't have to worry about it cracking. But you also have to leave room for the possibility that people will encounter defects and bugs in a device that has been perfect for you so far.
I NEVER plan to forcefully bend my device in half so I'm not concerned about the structural integrity. The 2 6P's in my house have bright white screens. But I am concerned about the visor issue because it could easily visit me. So I keep an eye on developments.

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

Who else thinks these reports of the glass on the back of the 6p cracking is a major widespread issue? .. I've been seeing more and more of these pop up and some from people that haven't even dropped their phone and randomly notice that their glass is cracked!

Nothing is a major issue until it becomes a major issue. I have reason not to believe those folks whose screens have mysteriously cracked. There's something going on there. So I keep using my 6P daily as I have been but I keep an eye on any developments. I hope I don't encounter this problem. But if iI do, I would hope that people would believe me.

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

So how do you know they didn't drop their phone? Were you there when all of these events happened, or are you just taking them for their word? It's not a widespread issue, when 1 person on reddit, and 2 maybe 3 people have reported it here. People today just like to overreact to things, get a grip man.

I don't know if its a real issue or not, but you've got a point. The way some people "place" their phone on a table is basically throwing it down.

Have a feeling it may have happened when they tossed their phone on a counter. Not realizing the hump will be the primary point of contact and its glass.

True. And why does it always seem that the people that handle their phones more rough are the ones that don't like using cases or screen protectors? I handle my phone like a baby but still don't go anywhere without a case or screen protector.

Ok I don't see what's funny about people having issues with their phones weirdo.

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

I hope there is a statement by Huawei or Google though that will kind of dispute or verify these claims sometime in the near future.
