Nexus 6P - Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

Let's see if the forum mods let me post. They seem to hate me for some reason.

I'm running Alarm Clock Xtreme 4.0.1. It's utterly useless to me. It does not go off in the morning. Instead, when I eventually wake up and turn the screen on, THEN the alarm goes off.

After the first time this happened, I figured that going into the battery optimization settings and excluding ACX would resolve the issue. But it hasn't.

So, I'm asking: What do I have to do to get an alarm to work on the 6P? Is it possible? Or is $650 not enough to pay for an alarm clock?

I have not tried the default Clock app. I want an app that has skip once functionality, and also shake to dismiss functionality.

check out Timely. I think it does all of those things. Most importantly, I know that it alarms at the scheduled time.

+1 for timely! I've been using it on all my devices for about the past four or five years. Works perfect on my 6p.

Nobody told you? It's an extra $100 for the alarm ... ACX probably hasn't updated to 6.0. Use Timely for now

Sleep as Android is very good

I actually switched from Timely to Alarm Clock Xtreme a few months ago and I haven't had any problems with it not going off, either on my old Nexus 6 or on my 6P.

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

Willing to bet the issue is your alarm app isn't marshmallow ready, and isn't using the api hook required to tell Android the app is important enough to wake it from the amazing doze feature.

I've been using Gentle Alarm for years. It can play music in a playlist if you prefer to wake up with music. It was last updated in April so I don't think anything Marshmallow-specific has been included but it works fine on my 6P.

Alarm clock Xtereme work for me with no issues and even goes off when I have do not disturb activated. Maybe try a reinstall?

This man speaks truth, if you like that app and want to use it you can probably go into batt and tell it not to optimize for that app and it will work. Test it with an alarm set for a minute later to be sure you're up and running. I use the stock google clock app only because I need almost nothing from a clock app and it works without fail on almost any rom without me ever having to think. Unless of course you kill it with doze, greenify, etc. :)

If you really like this app, then try this and see if it makes a difference: go to Settings -> Battery, tap the three dot menu at top right and then Battery optimization. Change the dropdown to All apps, find the alarm clock app and tap, then select Not optimized.

That might allow the app to continue running even when the phone is dozing.

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

i've been using timely, it works well and you can't beat the simple single screen touch for snooze. It also has a nice volume increase to gently wake you.

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

Also you should email the app developer asking them to get it up to speed for 6.0 It isn't a discredit to the phone that this developer hasn't updated their app, and the more people at ask them to update it the more likely they are to spend the time doing so.

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

Thanks for the responses. I checked out Timely (assuming that "Timely Alarm Clock" is what people are referring to). Did not like the interface at all, and it lacked some features I like... Can't remember for sure which, shake to dismiss I think.

I installed AlarmDroid and I'll see how that goes.

I did email the developer of Alarm Click Xtreme. However, the original developer sold it to AVG awhile back, and it appears that AVG is handling it like we all expect a big software vendor to--by not caring at all. So I've moved on.

I wasn't slamming the 6P over this issue. But I'll be in a state of irritation until I know I can rely on it to wake me up!

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

I've been using Alarm Clock Xtreme on my Nexus 6p with no issues so far. I've got a game event going on where I need to be on it every two hours, phone woke me as it should all night long.

Didn't turn off battery optimization either.

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

Well that's odd then. ACX sure did not work for me. I uninstalled/reinstalled it, and reconfigured it, and it still would not work, whether or not I excluded it from battery optimization. Really strange. I hate stuff like this.

But in any case, I haven't excluded AlarmDroid either, but today it went off when it should have, so I guess that's my new way forward. I wish I knew why ACX didn't work for me but it will probably remain a mystery.

I wonder if some other app is somehow interfering, but I'm not going to spend my time trying to find out what that could be. I'm not too upset about not using ACX anymore, since they removed the ability to omit the snooze button. I don't need that nonsense since I never, ever use snooze features.

Thanks for the replies.

Oh goodness, please tell me you aren't playing "Hobbit - Kingdoms of Middle Earth"... they had events like that where I had to set an alarm every 2 hours to kill a boss, or whatever. What a waste of my life. It's uninstalled! Clash of Clans for the win. :-)

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

So I can't edit my post or reply until someone else does? What a joke.

Anyway, AVG replied to my inquiry. And what a shock: This issue isn't my fault; the app is not Marshmallow compatible yet. The people who say it works on their 6P are either making it up to mess with me, or they have apps that keep their phones from sleeping, or something else. AVG said:

[We] have confirmed that because of OS compatible issues with newer version (Marshmallow v6.0) the app isn't working great.

Please be informed that developers are working on this to fix it. Also, our developers are currently gathering more information to develop the app compatible for Marshmallow.

Re: Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

I've been running Alarm Clock Xtreme 4.0.1 for years now.... absolutely NO issues with my 6P. Works every time, even when it's on my nightly Do Not Disturb (DND)... since I can not set DND differently for days of the week, it always goes until 7am every day, even though I have the alarm set for 4:30am on weekdays. It worked on my Moto X (2014) PE.

Oh no worries at all, nothing more frustrating than not being woken up when you should have been. Can wreak havoc on one's life.
