I'm on AT&T. Stuck on HSPA. Toggle airplane mode, toggle network preferences, restart, wipe cache, nothing works. Wife's S6 no issues, and were in a strong LTE area.

dial *#*#4636#*#* on your phone dialer, select 'phone information' on the screen that comes up, scroll down to the button 'CELLINFOSTRATE' and tap on it. it should change to state '0'. check on see if your on LTE now.

It went to LTE instantaneously. Thank you. Is this a permanent fix?

since I went to 6.0.1 I have had to do that twice, so far after the second time, I have remained on LTE when it should be, Ihave not seen it switch back and forth from hspa to lte, but I havent been watching for that either. where I use my phone lte is pretty much everywhere, but everytime I have checked since the second time, it has been on LTE. If nothing else the next google update will hopefully fix it permanently.

Didn't work for me. Still on "H" (HSPA) --- going to try contacting AT&T. I don't have high hopes.

SCRATCH THAT.... just switched to LTE after about 5 minutes. We'll see if it sticks. Thanks!

Posted this in a different thread, but it is relevant here too ...

I had this same problem with my Nexus 6P on AT&T. I was not getting LTE, only HSPA+. I figured my IMEI number was not added correctly to my account when I upgraded. So I called AT&T tech support, and first off let me give credit where credit is due, as I had my fair share of issues with AT&T. Talked to Jason, who was a super cool guy, not a robot, spent about 20 minutes troubleshooting my phone and my account settings. When the issue was resolved he even called me back to follow up. Could not be happier with the support I got.

Now onto the issue at hand. Turns out my IMEI number was correctly set on my account, and LTE was set as my Preferred network type under Cellular network settings. The issue was with my APN. The below change applies to both ATT Nextgenphone and ATT Phone APNs. Only this single line was changed from my original APN settings:

APN Type
default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri

The original setting did not include admin, and was in a different order. I was told the order actually matters. After this I am now getting LTE on both APNs and not HSPA+. I am using ATT Nextgenphone as I understand that with Marshmallow 6.0.1 VoLTE works on this APN.

ill have to look into this when i get chance later. I tried the *#*# trick and that seemed to revert back to HSPA after awhile.


Update: My APN Type did not include admin. So I added it and then rearranged the order as stated above. Reset the phone and now LTE shows up. Hopefully this fix will stick.

All this said, I CAN change but I think I would still prefer something official from Google... I don't want to mess anything up.

Yes it's a lower case L "l" you can just copy and paste it, or edit it yourself. Also the APN setting for the next one down, "ATT Phone" will remain as the original, don't edit that one. Google will probably come out with a fix, but its probably something that ATT would really need to address. Changing this is what an ATT tech would want you to do anyway.

got it. done - briefly lost all connection before LTE showed back up -- to be clear, I did have some LTE before this, but it was really on and off and I'd find myself with extended periods of time with H before restarting the phone (even though I haven't moved from my spot at work).

restarted the phone now, will keep an eye on it to see if it ever drops back to H when it shouldnt

was actually stuck on H, including two restarts... -- I changed back to the original APN and got back on LTE... then I restarted again and I have literally no internet... I don't think I mistyped anything, I only deleted out and changed order...

phone is definitely getting unusually warm through this process. got H back after another restart
