Nexus 6P: Reviews and Unboxings Thread

Re: Reviews thread

That's possibly my next phone but they have to keep drive features which there's a rumor they're dumping it w/ the marshmallow upgrade. It's very valuable for my commute.

FWIW, I've heard the exact same about the battery on that phone. My boss just got it and so far, he's a huge fan. This is coming from the Nexus 5... another FWIW lol

Yeah I will be coming from a Nexus 5. Figure I will sell it on Swappa lol

Re: Reviews thread

This is Engadget's complete review. I think it might be a little early to give a full review (assuming they got theirs around the same time as other reviewers), but I like what I'm seeing. If this reviewer's personal preferences are legit, I think I'm gonna love it. I'm still eager to see final thoughts from AC, Android Authority, MKBHD, and *sigh* Android Police as well.

Re: Watch "First Look & Unboxing: Nexus 5X & Nexus 6P" on YouTube

You can change the Moto XPE to have a more vibrant look. Not sure if it will give you the same look and feel as an AMOLED though.

According to most reviews and many other people as well, you can also change the screen on the Nexus 6p for a less vibrant look for those who like a more accurate color reproduction.

I think if Doze was more aggressive in putting Android in deep sleep it could increase battery life more realistic. Realistically meanings it sits in your pocket for hour and movement of device in your pocket doesn't stop Doze from activating. Doze activates when the phone has been still long periods time with out screen coming on. I don't know if requires software or hardware or both to achieve this functionality out of Doze but look forward to future and hope it's just software.

True but in the end it is still AMOLED lol :)

"Daily battery life was nothing short of astounding and ranks among the best any modern smartphone can offer. The larger battery certainly helps and it’s likely that optimizations within Android 6.0 Marshmallow are doing quite a bit of work here too. I was able to get over 6 and a half hours of screen on time here with normal web browsing, chatting and video watching during a full day. This is among the best battery life you’ll find on any smartphone regardless of the specs, you’re looking at something truly magical here."

When people make these kinds of statements it'd be nice to know what they have their screen brightness set to. This is one preference that varies greatly from person to person that can have a dramatic impact on battery life.

There's an app called Doze that claims to be better than Google's Doze. I'm using it now on the S6 , it's pretty good.

Re: Nexus 6P Unboxing MKBHD

I think it is too early to say but it is a concern as I would expect a much better battery life on this phone!

They both said they have been using for 48 hrs you can't gauge it in that time frame need at least two weeks for a review these are impressions real difference

That's why I said it is too early to gauge!!!

even with doze it appears we will still loose several % of battery over night. my 6s plus only loses about 1% every 7-9 hours

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

Yes I always loved and respected Verge opinion. Never understand people naive bashing Verge believing they only like iPhone. It's simple the iPhone is one most well known and top smartphones out there. The Verge just used as benchmark for analysis and comparison because it's well know popular. Easy device for non tech person to understand difference between quality and functionality when Verge makes reviews. Now look the Verge talk about 6P and give it great praise. I don't think people can keep accuse Verge of being iPhone bias anymore imo.

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

The verge gets a bad reputation for being iVerge because there are a few editors who work there who are *very* pro apple and anti everything else. I was listening to the vergecast from the week the surface book was announced and the one guy, Casey Newton I think, outright dismissed it because it isn't made by apple. People like that give the verge a bad name.

However a good number of the people there are at least platform agnostic. Some may still prefer iOS/Apple, but don't have as much a problem with Android.

And part of it too is that some of these guys have been doing what they do for 10 years or more, and they have pretty specific workflows that work well for them in what they do. If that is centered around OS X, then of course they're going to prefer apple. I dont' fault them for that. I just wish they wouldn't bring out the few true apple fan boys they have when it's time to talk about something other than apple.

Dieter did the 6P review, and he's easily the most objective person they have there when it comes to mobile platforms, going all the way back to his days at palmcentral. I'm not surprised at all he gave it a positive review.

Doze is pretty good, I forgot to charge my phone overnight, left it around 66% got up 7hrs later, it was at 61%. Better than usual standby time.

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

The dumb thing for me is that Apple automatically gets instant 10's on camera, screen, and even worse -- ecosystem. Android is always an automatic 9 on ecosystem, but when you combine those features it is obvious that the difference is skewed.

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

the only thing I will say, especially about the camera, is that it's less about the quality of the camera and more about the software. the iOS camera app is, frankly, fantastic. It may not have the most options, it may not look the best, etc. But the simple fact is the time from pocket to picture on iOS is still better than anything on Android, and that is to many people the most important aspect of a camera on a phone. And add in that to this point, in 99% of cases the "I just want to press this button and get a picture" image is better than on android. Sure on most new high end android phones you *can* get a picture that matches an iPhone, but it can take more effort.

iOS has the best camera on the market because the entire overall experience, from the app to the image quality to the simplicity of it, has been better than android. I can't wait to see if the 6P comes close to matching it.

Having a good camera experience is about more than just raw image quality, and up to this point Apple's has generally still been better.
