Nexus 7 Glass Seperation

I had a slight lift on my tablet. Found the thread over at xda. It was easy. Fixed my screen lift. Screws were loose. Took me about 5 mins to do.

This fixed mine, now my thumbnail stays below the metal bezel. Easier to remove than my S3 battery cover.

Funny bit is I used my Macbook back cover screwdriver to tighten the screws.

Popped the back with an iFixit spudger and a fingernail.

Screws needed a LOT of tightening -- probably anywhere from a half turn to a full turn.

The glass on the left still bows out above the chrome bezel where it does not on the right side, but it is less spongey.

Bought a Nexus 7 at Sam's Club today and it has this problem in the middle left of the screen. Attempted the fix posted above and it didn't fix it at all, does the same thing after tightening all the screws.

I'm taking this thing back.

My n7 just came...wasn't spongy and didn't have give to it, but the glass on the left side is above the bezel for pretty much the entire side. Opened the back, and the screws are fairly firm...not sure what to do here. Thoughts?

+ as a result of the heightened screen, if I put pressure on the bezel the screen next to it distorts fairly easily.

Have a slight rise on the left side. Got mine from Sam's Club. It doesn't impact screen performance though. I am going to keep it, and if it becomes a problem I will get a warranty replacement in a month or so. Since it works fine now, I see no reason to replace for one at Sam's that may be worse.

Tried this fix when I got home tonight. Cover was easy to remove, and tightening the screws seems to have fixed it...a bit. The screen is still slightly raised on the left side, just not as bad as it was before.

I actually did it once, tried it out and realized screen was still a little "loose", so I took cover off again and checked each screw again, tightening again just a bit. I didn't want to *force* the screws, but I got them about as tight as they will go without really going past my comfort level.

Another thing I found interesting is that with the cover off, the screen was pretty much flush with the bezel as far as I could tell; it wasn't until I replaced the cover that the raised screen returned.

Again, screen is better after this fix, but not perfect -- and there is still a little play if I push on it. I'm not gonna worry too much about it. Everything works fine, but would have been nice if this would have fixed it better.

Got mine yesterday, had the spongy feel on both sides. This worked perfectly!!!! That was the only thing that really bummed me out about this device. Now it's perfect!!

Weird... My glass was slightly raised on the left side as well. I opened my cover up using a plastic grapefruit spoon thingy. All the screws were tight already. Put the battery cover back on and the glass on the left side of the screen is no longer raised.

Easy peasy! ;)

I got mine from Sam's Club too and the glass is raised slightly above the bezel. It has that spongy feeling. I've got another on the way from the Play Store. If this fix doesn't work permanently, I've got to take it back. XDA is saying the issue returns after a few hours.

I also pop'ed the back cover off and tightened the screws. Like you said the screws weren't particularly loose. I just loosened them and re tightened them, snapped the cover back on and its 200% better. The left side is even with the right side and there is no more movement. My only issue is now resolved..... so happy i don't have to send this back.

****Edit***
When i put the tablet back together everything seemed to be resolved however after some time the glass started to "bounce" again. not as bad as before but its still raised on the left side. Looks like I will be sending this back. dam :-(.

This was my experience.

Could this issue get worse over time? If so i may try this fix. I hear its easy and my dad could probably do this in less than 5 minutes if i ask him too. If its not a big deal then meh. Mine isnt even 1mm out. and i only notice if i press which i keep hearing about so i do it.

The glass came up again after I tightened everything (none of the screws were alarmingly loose, they seemed acceptable). Became noticiable about an hour later. It's got to be an issue with the back cover fitting too tight, which some people on XDA speculate could be the problem. A somewhat loose screw isn't going to force the display up like this.

It's just, I mean, SON OF A B----! I do have one coming next week (ordered on 7/12, so missed this week by a day), but I was going to send it back and keep the one I have. Now I have to wipe it and take it back. I'd put up with this issue, especially since the official cases cover the edges up. But this is one of those things that could get worse over time. I'm taking care of it now.

I wouldn't mess with it if it isn't bad, especially since this isn't working, at least for me. Keep an eye on it while you're in your return period and see if it gets worse. Take it back if it does.

If it's as tight as the box it came in, it's to tight. ;)

Does make some sense though, mine was fixed after just taking the back cover off and putting it back on.

The back was actually kind of hard for me to pry off, even with a plastic tool for that kind of thing.

The display is right back to where it was before I tried anything. I almost never return stuff, but here I got to do it.
