Nexus 7 Glass Seperation

The screen is slightly above the bezel on my unit. The big problem is is if you lightly push down on it, it creaks and the screen ripples like all LCD screens do when you push down on them. I'm gonna call Google this week and ask for a replacement device. I've heard good stories about Google's customer service, so I'm confident they'll send me a replacement device. I just hope it doesn't have any more issues than I currently have....

I did everything suggested here and xda but nothing worked permanently.

So I decided to super glue the screen with the bevel. No separation for 24+ hours.

I'm glad that worked for you, and I hope the repair holds up, but ...

That can't be good for the warranty, and you've just undone the purpose of gluing from underneath and leaving the glass loose in the housing (which makes your glass more likely to crack with any sort of impact on the frame, since there's now no motion allowed between glass and frame).

Very resourceful, but I'd personally just swap the unit out for a good one.

Not that $200-250 is a huge investment, but...

That would be an issue if the glass and the bevel were two pieces snapped together. However Ifixit seems to indicate that they are one piece glued together. I have not seen anyone took the bevel out from the glass.

Of course, ppl should just do RMA. But I rather fix on my own.

I had this glass separation issue too but i managed to remedy it a little. I played a long high quality MKV file on my nexus for at least 2 hours, then left it near my window to cool it. Its been a day and I have no glass separation issue or creak.

I have a 16 GB unit with glass separation on the left side. It clearly bounces up and down when I push on it, and it also makes creaking noises as the glue sets and unsets. I spent 25 min on hold with Google 6 days ago before getting hold of a helpful rep who was difficult to hear due to a bad connection, but he readily offered me a replacement unit. Three days later I received an email from Google Play Support with a link to a special Google Wallet cart with a "free" 16 GB Nexus 7 in it (there is a hold on my credit card until I return my original unit). The day after that I received a shipping notice, and two days after that (today) I am typing this post on the new unit.

The glass on this unit is also ever so slightly raised above the bezel on the left side, but it feels much more solid with very little sponginess (there is a small bit of bounce near the bottom left) and no creaking. I am quite happy with it and glad that I got my old unit swapped out. It was no trouble at all other than having a Bluetooth headset stuck in my ear while waiting on the phone for 25 min as I did something else. I highly recommend this approach!

Oh, I might also add that I had no backlight bleed, dead/stuck pixels, or speaker issues with either unit.

Just got mine yesterday from Office Max and i just noticed this a little bit on the left side. It is nto very noticable right now. I will see about holding on for a little while seeing as I bought the last one there.

Since I really, really wanted one of these. I went back to Staples to try yet another one after returning the last for screen seperation (couple back to Sams, Staples and 1 to Google). To no avail, it suffered from the exact same problem. unaffixed screen on the left side. Extremely disappointing!

Mine had the issue, but I just returned it to wait for a true fix, ie something on the production level in a new batch. I just know that I would find an issue with any replacement I got now because I would be looking so hard for one......

I'll revisit the device in a few months

Hello all.I purchased the nexus 7 16GB from Hmv in the UK which has the glass separation, which they exchanged for another unit and that's also got the same problem albeit not as bad, and to top it all of I ordered one for the missus of tesco a while back, that's just arrived and guess what that also has glass separation.3 out of 3 is not very good going.shame really Cos I love the damn thing.don't no whether to get a full refund and wait and see if they sort this problem out.

I clamped mine for 3 hours yesterday and left it in my car while at work in 100 degree heat. It's been 24hrs and it hasn't raised back up yet.

If you ordered from Google play and are not happy call them to send it back. They make it so easy. As stated before they will send you a new one with a hold on your CC so you will not be without a tablet waiting for a new one.

I returned mine to Staples two days ago after having it for a week. At first the separation problem was minor, but as the days went by it got worse just through normal use (so those of you who think you got lucky with a problem-free device, keep an eye on it). I'm not going to sit around watching it get worse until my 14 day return period is up. Screw that.

Those holding out hope that the replacement you're getting right now/soon won't have the problem - god bless ya. Hope it turns out good for you, but I can just about guarantee that any replacements going out right now are going to have the same problem. I'll buy it again in like 2 months and hope Asus has gotten their s*** together in their third or fourth wave of product.

I bet the percentage of units that have this glass separation is very large. I posted this same thing in another thread, but it looks like the arstechnica review has a picture that shows the screen lifting on the left side, although it is not mentioned at all:

I'm somewhat surprised reviews did not mention it. Personally, I find the issue minor so far. But I have a feeling mine might get worse. I'll watch a few days more.

It seems like after having my RooCase on for about a week, the tiny amount of separation (very small amount.. No cracking sounds or real "sponginess" ) that I had, is completely gone. Maybe because i grip it at that side? Either way, I am extremely happy with my device.

Had a bit of this myself. I took a micrometer and measured the "rise" which was pretty insignificant. For three evenings, I took to just rubbing my finger along the left edge for a couple of minutes, which always pushed it back down. Now, after almost two weeks of use, the "defect" hasn't returned, even under heavy use and temperatures here in Arizona of over 105 degrees. I really do think this is a "non problem". Seems a bit like in the rush to get these out, the adhesive wasn't allowed enough time to really "set", but it's something many users can easily correct themselves. Much ado about basically nothing. Nexus 7 has performed perfectly in every respect, and I really don't worry myself to death over a $250 device with a 1/500 th of an inch temporary, and easily resolvable, "issue".

I'm sure that there are a bunch of people at Google right now just rubbing their fingers over the left side of the screen for a few minutes to "fix" this horrible defect.
