Nexus 7 the Champ?

Is there any legit competitor to the Nexus 7 with Cell connection? Sure the Mini has LTE. But at a much greater price and with a screen that isn't great. So assuming Nexus 7 beats the Mini is there any other mid-sized tablet with a cell connection that is competitive to the Nexus 7? I'm also assuming we are all of the view that the Kindle Fire HD doesn't stack up to the Nexus 7.

At this time Nexus 7 is the one and only standout especially considering it's price point. The screen is a plus over the Mini of course and I like the small form factor. The big deal is price of $199 for the best N7 including data option. The Kindles are a nice line but I now like the extras on the N7 vs. stuck in Amazon land. I love Amazon.com and love the Kindle eReader but the Kindle tablets don't bring enough flexibility for the future.

My point of view:
I just received mine this Wednesday and I am amazed at what it can do. I purchased the 32GB with Data and got an AT&T micro sim for when/if I need it when traveling and just do Data Connect as needed.
The only 2 pieces on wishlist was VZW LTE and rear camera. Both would have increased the price significantly. VZW because I could attach to my account. Camera more just because than a necessity.

Sorry if my answer isn't properly worded but I hope you understand the basic answer of there is nothing to truly compare against the Nexus 7and it's benefits.

Yeah, that's my basic question. It seems like the Nexus is the best thing currently out. Which is kind of interesting since the original wifi version came out in July. The cell version is just shipping now. I think for $299. Funny that nothing competitive has been able to make it to market.

I think the nexus 7 will remain champ for one main reason and that is because Google believes they are gonna make money on the Google market. If you look at the teardown they do not make much on the hardware and other company's get there revenue from the device so hope that answers your question further. If there ever comes a competitive tab hardware wise I don't think the company will be willing to come short on profits just to compete with Google and offer it at this pricepoint.

IPod mini was just released. Slower and lower rez screen for 90 more. Nexus 7 is still the 7 inch to beat. But don't expect that to be true in 4 months. But the nexus 7 will always be the best bang for the buck tablet. New tablets will come out. I can see the nexus 7 at 99 in a year and still able to run anything on the Google play store efficiently. Get one!!!

Order the Nexus 7. Looking forward to seeing how it works out. My last experience with Android was the second version of the OS. And it wasn't very good. Lets see how often I decide to leave the iPad 3 at home once I have the Nexus 7.

Good I hope this venture works out better than the last. This is definitely a fun device as you will see.. hit me up if you have any questions .. What did you get 32 or 16 WiFi or cell?? This forum should be of much use and will really help you unlock and do more with your device. Cheers

Thanks for the offer. I got the Cell version. I'd find it frustrating to not have a connection with a portable device, so the Nexus 7 only really just became an option for me. Since my work pays for my iPhone and unlimited data, they quite reasonably will not allow me to hotspot it (or jailbreak it obviously which would allow me to hotspot as well). So my tablet needs to have its own ability to connect. 3G+ is fast enough.

You will like it. My Nexus 7 is Wi-Fi only but for 7" I think it is the best out there. 10" arguably iPad but not 7"... Something not quite right with the iPad mini.

I am liking my Nexus 7. Somewhat of a pain to download all new Apps that I already have on iOS, but I'm getting the machine populated. It is lighter and therefor easier to read some things on it. I'm leaving my iPad at home as I go to and from work. So that means I often don't have to carry a bag. That alone is very liberating. I just slide my Nexus 7 into my coat pocket and take it out on the subway. Screen is great. Performance is very good. Not quite as responsive as iOS, but totally fine.

I'm still liking the Nexus 7. But is it still the champ? I'm not upgrading anytime soon, but is there a new obvious mini tablet that has replaced it?

Some say the Samsung Note 8 is nice, but it does cost a lot more than the Nexus 7.
The next version of the Nexus 7 should be better, perhaps.
Wish this version had more RAM so I could install all of my apps.
Had to leave off a few that tend to eat up RAM, because the current Nexus 7 model only has 1 GB of RAM. My device runs slow when the RAM gets low.

Nexus 7 is still the champ until N7 2 is released. 1 year of champ is the standard these days even of iOS devices
