I think the problem is that it is too hard to refine. I like all devices by all makers, and own a lot of them. But some people hate Apple because of what they stand for, what that is I don't know. It's similar to how some people hate Microsoft. I think the more money a company makes the more people hate them. I don't understand it.
I dislike that I had to jailbreak my iPad just to get a BT mouse to work, but it is what it is. It doesn't make me hate Apple.
So to sum it up, I don't know. For some, it may be a money issue. For others, it may be a Steve Jobs issue, who knows.
Could be. For me, I like software. I like software much more than I do hardware to be quite honest. I gravitated towards Macs when I was younger (~6-7 years ago, so relatively younger, obviously) because they seemed a bit simpler and the software seemed very advanced to my younger self. These days, I want my software to not only be relatively simple but also very powerful. Thus, Android. Very easy to use. Very easy to customize. (A bit too easy to customize, in all honesty). Very powerful.
iOS, of which I have approximately 3 years of daily experience with (and 2+ years with the iPad) is not that, so for me, as a guy who loves software and loves OS's, it makes no sense. It's easy for apps, it's very polished, but for me, that's it. Jailbreaking serves some function, but ultimately the lack of any sort of organization or simplicity there (as opposed to the ease of customizing Android through flashing, etc.) with that "hobby" makes it a headache. And don't get me started on the insanity that is Cydia, Winterboard, etc.
On other levels, part of me is envious about Apple hardware. I'm typing this on a mid-year, 2011 MacBook Pro. I adore it. While it gets insanely (
insanely) hot, overall, it's a champ. Sure, the screen "joint" is a bit awry, but I have Apple care for that (right?). The iPhone is a masterful piece of hardware; sure, design is dated and it's a bit small, but it's polished. It's quality. And because there's only "one" iPhone, hardware/software integration is brilliant. It does not mean that the software is necessarily better than alternatives, but that integration is better. Although, I'd argue that you see the same level of integration--perhaps moreso--with Galaxy Nexii, particularly the GSM models.
On the other other hand, everything I've read about Steve Jobs--from the bio last year to anecdotal interviews--makes me both love what he brought yet hate his very existence. He was driven, obviously. While he had exceptional brilliance in many fields, he was also stupid in some regards too, getting caught up in his own brilliance, overthinking himself, and damn near sinking Apple several times over. Further, he was arrogant; hell, who isn't at that stage? But how he treated folks, how he treated employees, how he treated the world...for some reason, even for an attorney, the worst of the worst of the homo sapiens, his attitude and world view really, truly irk me to no end. But that's a very personal opinion, so I don't expect anyone to really agree lol.
Same as the Apple is always overpriced thinking.
Just saying.

If it was overpriced they wouldn't sell like they do. Price is fluid and clearly, for whatever reason--hype, quality, whatever--Apple has found the sweetspot for their products.
Good point. People would spell out Micro$oft all the time. And by the way, Microsoft takes money for each Android phone sold from HTC and several other manufactures. But you still see the hate towards Apple. Maybe because Microsoft isn't big competition right now for Android.
Good last point there. I sort of think that the top dog is always the one to be hated. First Microsoft, now Apple, and hell, you can see some of it towards Google/Android as well. That's human nature, really, and nothing more.
