Nexus 7 will lead Android tablets to overtake the iPad

Dude, read all the posts in the thread and follow along or don't comment. Go back and reread my posts and then edit your reply to my post.

I'm not saying Apple doesn't make good products (again, read my prior posts), and that I am not against how Apple markets their products (again, in one of my prior posts). I'm the first one to reach for my iPad before any of my Android tablets. My reply was to @syrouse44 to his point that some people only buy Apple because it's Apple. Not to beat the dead horse, but you really need to read all the posts to stay in the conversation. Jus' sayin'

Honestly it was directed to the overall tone of the thread, but looks like this discussion has come back to reality... and thank goodness.

Just a typical thread when it comes to an Apple vs. Android kind of thing. No worries...

Agreed. The buzz kills people. not only in this forum, but everywhere people are saying "should I hold off on the iPad mini" like it exists.... or that it will even be sold at the same price.

Apple is genius at creating buzz. Honestly most of the time I think they release rumors on purpose. Or "leave prototypes at a bar" for someone to pick up like they did with the iPhone 4.

Anyone who hates Apple just has a hate on them for probably not being able to afford what they offer. The only way they will lower prices if people stop buying them. They make quality products and I honestly like both worlds.

I have an iPhone 4 and love it. I have an Android Nexus 7 and love that as well. Can't we all just get along?

I could go out and buy every Mac product available if I wanted without breaking a sweat. The thing is, (other than the iPad 3) I don't like paying more money for an inferior product. For me that's not about being cheap, that's just common sense. Oh and then there's the fact when in comes to both PC's and phone, Apple's competition puts out products the leave Mac and 'i" products in the dust when it comes to hardware. You can't buy a Mac as powerful as a good PC, no matter how much money you throw at them.

Same as the Apple is always overpriced thinking.

Just saying. :)

Yes, charging 4700 dollars for a 1000 dollar (TOPS) computer. That's totally not overpriced. It's not like Apple makes for profit per device sold that any other computer of phone company. Oh wait...

But they're not always overpriced, especially when it comes to their iOS-line of devices.

Like the earlier discussion about selling a lifestyle and knocking the top dog - look at Sony. Their line of computers always felt overpriced. They haven't been on top for awhile now and those rumblings I used to hear about Sony being overpriced have died down quite a bit. It's always more fun for people to knock whoever is on top or whoever is perceived to be on top.

Any other company would kill to have the brand recognition and clout in the industry that Apple currently has.

Why is the third generation iPad the exception for you?

Also, it really isn't just about the hardware. People hate hearing this but it's also about the ecosystem - the games, the apps, the content, the accessories.

Good point. People would spell out Micro$oft all the time. And by the way, Microsoft takes money for each Android phone sold from HTC and several other manufactures. But you still see the hate towards Apple. Maybe because Microsoft isn't big competition right now for Android.

Can't wait for the day when people start spelling out "$am$ung". Lol. :)

The iPad 3 is the exception for me because it is actually the best device hardware wise you can buy in it's market. That's the only Apple product that can be said for.

And Sony's products are still overpriced.

This is an accurate paragraph. Take a look through the recent threads on any Android forum; people are holding off on the N7 because of a RUMORED iPad mini. Apple's marketing is brilliant: they don't even have to spend a dime on advertising and their products generate a buzz. Even products that may or may not exist.

It might not be completely accurate. The 10" and 7" tabs are different beasts, if you ask me. I've found that I use them differently. The 7" is a carry around and meeting gadget. I read with it and so forth. The 10" stays at home, where I use it for movies, some reading (it's not comfortable for that, really) and games. My suspicion is that when the 7" iPad hits the market it is going to be looked at by a lot of people who do not have a tab at all, since it should be cheaper than the 10" iPad and it carries the Apple brand. But it will be alongside established 7" devices, like the Nexus and Samsung. It may not be the rout people are imagining it will be.

Granted, if you are a 10" iPad owner, you will probably get the 7" iPad. Why reinvest in those apps? But if you're a new buyer, Android has a lot to offer. The hardware is already at parity in the 10" space, and will be in the 7". The only difference in practical terms will be apps, and while there are a few iPad apps I miss (Paper53 for one) there is little I can do on an iPad that I can't on Android. It's going to come down to marketing, and Apples marketing group is usually scary good.

This is all a wild chain of sort-of-logic, but that's been this whole thread anyway.

IMO if you are a new buyer and new to the market of tablets and go and ask "What kind of tablet should I get?" 9 times out of 10 someone will say "You should get an iPad"

Or if they walk into Best Buy and see this huge white shiny display of iPads out and like 3 employees all standing around talking up how great they are. Then you got Android tablets in the back row all side by side... black and dull and boring...

Yeah I'm sure the average consumer is going to pick the iPad.

Like you said their marketing is scary good.

Right here is my problem right now. There is actually a long list of things that I can't do on my nexus that are easily accomplished on my iPad. And even most of the things I can do on both are much easier and more intuitive to do an iPad. Other than the size, I am having a hard time finding a single thing the nexus does substantially better than an iPad.

I'm not attacking - I'm curious. Like what can't you do? My applications are primarily drawing, note taking, watching movies, math (I'm an engineer). I do miss some of the drawing apps, as I said. But my viewpoint and application is my own - someone elses will be different and I am sure I am missing some information.

I'm also curious. I am one of very few android users in a company where most employees use iPhones. I am also the department geek in my area. I haven't found anybody doing anything on their iPhones that I can't do equally well on my android.

I love the iPhone. I think it's a great device. I have played with an iPad and loved it. But I also have to question these claims that you can do so many more things on an iPhone than android because I have yet to see one.
