Nexus 7 will lead Android tablets to overtake the iPad

I'm not attacking - I'm curious. Like what can't you do? My applications are primarily drawing, note taking, watching movies, math (I'm an engineer). I do miss some of the drawing apps, as I said. But my viewpoint and application is my own - someone elses will be different and I am sure I am missing some information.

Exactly that, its all based on your use case. A relative of mine is an american idol contestant and her ipad is LITERALLY a living breathing mobile music studio. You just can't get the kind of apps for this sort of thing on Android...for now I guess.

On a personal note as a gym rat, I've got Apple envy ever time I see someone use Nova's iMuscle app.

Wow! Finally got to the end of this thread!!!! So much information..... All I got is that I buy what I like ;).

So again, quick office pro HD does not work. A different version works, which costs another $15. This is exactly my freaking point. Who the hell wants to rebuy their apps every time there is an OS update?

No one wants to rebuy an app with each OS update. I think it's an oversight on QuickOffice, or at least I hope so. If they want users to spend 15 bucks each time there is an OS update, they won't be selling many apps. But Google bought them anyway, right? So it will be part of Android soon.

If it was just them then maybe it I could deal with it. But it seems there are an awful lot app developers that over look this pretty simple stuff.

Have you contacted the developers?

Is this a joke? Are you honestly suggesting that every time there is an OS update I should personally contact every developer of an app that isn't compatible and ask them to update it? That's pretty funny.

Not in the least. If you're having an issue with an app, you should contact the developer, particularly if they're charging $15 for what appears to be "compatibility" issues.

I received over 100 e-mails about my app not working with the Nexus 7, and a handful of users running a JB ROM on their phone. So people do e-mail when an app doesn't work.

I e-mail other developers about their apps all the time. Either suggesting new features, or asking questions about integrating one of my apps in theirs. Normally the response is quick, but a lot of the times I don't hear anything back at all.

*Edit - My app is free though so it's not a good comparison to a 15.00 app. But it's not uncommon to contact a developer.

Precisely. It should at least be tried, particularly if these issues are the reasoning behind one's judgment of a device.

The more tech savvy, which is what we usually have on forums like this, frequently miss the significant draw of iOS- It just works. Well. This may not seem like much to us who like flexibility and can figure out different nuances easily, but this isn't the majority. People want it working yesterday, and they want it to work without having to read a manual, or get support, and damn sure don't want to have to have to contact a developer. I own and love both formats but as staunch Android supporters, many have lost sight of how much more intuitive iOS still is. You don't have a Settings option in one app where another is using a Menu key. You don't have 47 sources and apps to play your music from. Its seemless and say what you will about an open OS and all the potential it brings, but just like in the workplace, too many hands in the operation can and often leads to confusion. We all love this aspect of choice that Android gives us, but that's not for everyone.

You don't think having to send out numerous emails to developers every time the OS is updated to beg them to fix their damned apps isn't enough of an incentive to just not bother with the an entire ecosystem? What a ridiculous proposition.

No, I said the $15 one that charges for compatibility.

And I disagree with your point as well, but we can agree to disagree. We have vastly different viewpoints on this, but that's the beauty of humanity :).

So what about all the other ones that just stop working? Just because an app OS free doesn't mean it isn't just as big of a deal when it doesn't work.

You either (1) email them, (2) wait for compatibility (which, for big apps, is usually very, very quick, as I can attest from living through 4 OS upgrades), or (3) in your situation, get out of the ecosystem. Three "legitimate" options IMO.

Exactly. Get out. Which is exactly what many people will do or just never get in to begin with.

I don't think your generalization is either apt or supported by current statistics.

You mean the statistics that apple still sells over 2/3 of all tablets? Or is it the fact that every review of an android tablet reiterates the miserable app situation? You really dont think people know how messed up the current system is?

I'm talking ecosystems generally.

Everyone knows Android has to catch up in the tablet market. Considering how popular this tablet is, that'll be sooner than later, just like it was with phones.

No. But I believe android tablets will outsell the iPad in the next 2 years.

I just thought this was funny. Im no expert or anaylist and while i have a Nexus 7 I love, I dont think in the next two years Android tablets will outsell the iPad. It might be on its way too, but it wont outsell it. Just look, Apple holds 68% of the tablet space.

IDC: Apple's still king of the tablet hill with 68 percent of the market -- Engadget

Spot on.

But you forgot to call those iOS users iSheep. :)
