Nexus 9 verses NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet or iPad

Using a large phone is certainly not for everyone, which is fine. There are a lot of good smartphones in a smaller size.

I disagree with this. The only good smartphone in this smaller size range is the iPhone. Any other phone in this size range (4-4.7 inches) is very underpowered or won't be supported that much.

As for tablets, I've heard good things about the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. It's basically a laptop in tablet form. I guess the only drawback is that it can be expensive. For a little bit more money, it might be worth it to simply get a small laptop, like a Macbook Air.

Yeah the Surface Pro 3 is nice. That price is high when you factor in the keyboard too, so it would be comparable in price to a MacBook Air.

It appears that other companies are abandoning that part of the market to Apple. Is there a way to communicate to the manufacturers that there is a demand for high-performance smartphones with a smaller screen size?

Sadly this is true for me too. I am considering getting an iPhone as soon as I have the cash. No other good smartphone in the 4-4.7 inch range on Verizon.

If you can live with the software(which I can, I like iOS) I think it is the best allrounder. It has a good screen, great battery life, great camera and its nice and comfortable to hold.

I would have LOVED to see a 2014 4.7" Moto X but oh well.

I thought you were getting the Kyocera Brigadier. :D

It isn't getting Android L to my knowledge. I realize I need a reliable phone that would be updated for a year or more. I am in college and pockets and that deep, but I also have my size preference.

I don't know what I want to get honestly, but as far as devices go in that size range on Verizon go, the iPhone 6 is the best.

Idk which to buy

I have an iPad Air 2 and love it . I also would like am iPad mini sized tablet since I think 7 inches is getting to close to my Samsung galaxy note 4 . I am lukewarm interest in the nividia shield tablet and interested in the nexus 9 or mildly interested in the iPad mini ( new iPad mini is just a re branded 2 and not that excited for it ).

Nexus 9 I am leaning toward but is it more portable then the iPad ?

LOL @ fanboys arguing about the A8X and the Tegra K1 being the most powerful mobile chip.

Meanwhile, Surface Pro 3 with the i7-4650U...

I wouldn't call the surface pro 3 a mobile platform ....it's not really mobile and basically is a small laptop with no keyboard attached

You have an odd definition of "mobile" then.

The Surface Pro 3 is a tablet with a mobile processor. A 64-bit processor as well, mind you.

Lol if you think an Intel i7 is a mobile cpu ......mobile as an laptop cpu but isn't "mobile" with that 13 inch screen

Intel i7 is still a desktop class cpu

This is the dumbest argument I've ever heard.

The Surface Pro 3 has a 12 inch screen btw, get your facts right. Other tablets are larger, like the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2.

So you're saying because the Surface Pro 3 has a beastly Intel i7 with the same nomenclature as desktop CPUs, it does not count as a "mobile" CPU because it's in another league of performance?

Congrats an inch of a difference ...you want a cookie ? Still huge

Windows itself isn't "mobile" no matter how Microsoft or you want it to be. And putting an Intel i7 is cpu inside a piece of electronic putting on a touchscreen doesn't make it mobile .... There is a reason why Microsoft wanted to use ARM CPUs in windows 8 RT and not an Intel i5 or i7.

Once again, you have a strange definition for the word "mobile".

What exactly does "mobile" mean to you? Do you mean an OS that's extremely limited in what it can do, only has the most basic of functions and sole purpose is to install tiny little apps? Because yes, Windows can do that too! Just like iOS and Android. And I'm not even an Windows fanboy lol I'm just stating the truth here.

In the beginning, I'm sure the main reasons why Microsoft went with an ARM SoC is because they wanted better battery life and to lower cost. But now the i3 - i7 's in the Surface Pro 3's are getting 7 hours of battery life - not as good as their ARM competition, but still leaps and bounds better than just two years ago. And yes they're more costly, but you get what you pay for with performance, it's in another league of performance. Even the HD5000 blows away the GPUs of the A8X and the K1.

Sure your not a windows fanboy you go think that ....I have a window 8 laptop and like windows but no way I'll use a surface 3 for pure mobile experience because it isn't .

Microsoft isn't even marketing it as a mobile experience either and more of yes it's portable and is more of an all in one

Definitely a device with Android OS, but what is another question. If you take the unit for one year then Nvidia Schild Tablet quite a good option, as long as a year you acquire a new one, but if you buy a "reliable helper" for a few years - it is better Nexus 9 - At least due to regular updates.

Ironically, I love Android as a mobile platform because it's more PC-like than WP8.

If Windows released an OS for phones that was actually like a desktop, I would be so happy. I'd have one device that could do it all - use as a phone with basic apps, use as a tablet if I wish to dock it to something larger, or just hook up a monitor and Bluetooth keyboard and use it as a desktop.

Why does it "have" to be android ....he obviously isn't biased toward it and it's all preference

The K1 and A8X GPU I think betas the HD4400 so it isn't too far of the HD5000.

ARM is the future whether or not you like it.
