Nexus Excitement Dying Down?

Are you kidding? I thought quad core was on roadmaps for mid 2012.

Sent from my HP Touchpad using Tapatalk

Don't get me wrong, quad core is in early development, that's for certain. Most is being used in tablets, but they will focus on phones big time once it's stable in that format. My response solely addresses Verizon cuz that doesn't seem like a realistic window for use in phone hardware in the US on Verozon. Their overseas road maps for quad core won't navigate over here for release anytime soon, it took a year for the SGS to land on our soil. Say that it is true, they bring it to fruition and a quad core device enters overseas testing by mid 2012. If it's ready, it will then go to carrier testing in Asia, Eur. etc.,. Only once those wrap up and start releasing the device to John Q. Public over in those markets. You're talking 6 mos. easy, before Verizon would even express interest in bringing it stateside. Resulting in LTE testing for several months. Other carriers might get it quicker, if they're on gsm, or consumers purchase one unlocked, but even that will change as those carriers make the jump to true 4g. There's more to it than this but this is nuff for now. I'm sure this will open a can of worms.from some, but that's just my lousy outlook on the subject.

The Samsung Galaxy S initially launched in Singapore on June 4, 2010. Wiki here. The US carrier versions released July-August.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 release launch dates began May 2011. Wiki here. The US carrier versions released September-October.

What's to say the Galaxy S3 line couldnt launch around May-June of 2012, with a slightly later release for US? Even if they're delayed from the previous two cycles, I think that would just be late 2012, not Q2 2013.
IT will be in gsm format before then, surely. I'm talking about how it applies realistically with Verizons phone release process.

Does anyone one find this to be the case with this phone? I was really excited for it to launch after its announcement and stayed that way for several weeks, but now I'm starting to feel a little disenchanted with it given VZW's never ending cloud of secrecy. I feel like they've robbed me of being excited about this phone because of one buzzkill delay after another.

No its not for me.It's just everything has been talked about while waiting for it to be released is all.
Theres not a lot left to discuss until we have phone in hand .
I still have money set aside for this phone and still plan on getting it on launch day.Hopefully it gets released before christmas vacation is here. That would mess up everything for me ,if they release it between christmas and the new years day.

The excitement has died down for me and I am actually happy about it. No new news on the Nexus and no release date so I have let it go. If and when it comes out I will get excited again and jump on it the first chance I get.

Agreed. Given the accelerated rate at which technology has advanced for smart phones, weeks seem like months, and months seem like years when compared to advancements in other technological areas like televisions or automobiles. So, these 'business' decisions by big red to delay GN in order to maximize profits have a side effect of greatly expediting obsolescence of the GN. I was 100% sure I was going to get the phone as of October. Now I am 75% confident I will get the phone as of November. And come December, who knows, maybe a 50% chance. The GN is becoming more and more obsolete each day it sits in a big red warehouse.

I have no problem waiting for the phone. I was never told (by VZW) when to expect it and I'm not mad or angry that it's not out. What's dying down for me is my desire to read these forums. I can't stand how so many people state their opinions, guesses and conspiracy theories and a matter of fact. Like they really know anything? "It's going to be released the third Sunday from the last because cp3o tweeted it and VZW always does that." Really? Then once everyone is done with the conjuncture, they argue about technology.

There are 2 reasons I keep coming back here: 1. I'm as excited about this phone as I have ever been about an electronic device. The only that would have me more excited is if it were a webOS phone, but HP pretty much ruined any chance of that every happening. 2. There are some funny people on here. There are more than a few good posts every day.

My excitement is officially back. I got over the "buy a RAZR/Rezound" wall...it's definitely going to be worth a few more weeks to have the right device for hopefully 2 years. Especially seeing these ads pop up featuring the Nexus, were pretty close in the big scheme of things.

Welcome back! All it takes is one bit of positive news in a sea of negative.

Seeing the potential for a $199 price point is enough to make me happy in my pants again.

It's dying down for me, especially since we are seeing more evidence that there will only be a 16GB version on VZW, and no 32GB. That's a deal breaker. I'm more interested in switching to AT&T for the SGS2 Skyrocket, with 48GB total.

I'm not sure where you are getting that information from, but I'd recommend you visit google.com/nexus. Click specs, and you'll see it describes the LTE/CDMA model as having 32GB of storage. The whole "only 16GB" rumor has been dead for awhile.

What evidence are you talking about? Everything currently out there has debunked the whole 16GB. in the future please due further research before posting.

Well we'll find out at release won't we? The fact remains, there is NO MicroSD card slot.

Umm no, we've already found out. It's 32GB. And the reasons have already been listed why Google wants to move away from SD. Betwen 32 GB + cloud, I think most of us will be fine.

Phonedog just did their unboxing of the Galaxy Nexus. Aaron mentions that it was lagging. I have heard this somewhere else also. He has tweeted his battery life and it does not look so hot either.

I thought the GPU acceleration was going to improve the smoothness.

Heck, I test drove the Razr and had NO noticeable. lag. So yes, my enthusiasm is not what it once was.

I listened to the podcast with Phil and, the reviewer from Engadget Miriam. I believe she said that you had to go into the developer options in settings and enable 2D hardware acceleration. It seems like something that should be enabled automatically. I always wondered about that because, in the videos, some phones looked noticeably smoother.

Edit: I watched his unboxing vid. It did lag some after he was coming out of the app drawer I believe. I think the phone was still setting itself up after starting for the first time. I've even had my Iphone4 lag just the way the Nexus did, when I do something too fast.

I don't really feel like the excitement is dying down- I think a lot of people just rented Razrs or Rezounds, and are staying off this board after the rumors all proved false. The Nexus is a game-changer, and anybody who is a member of this board knows it. We are the 1%, the techies, and we know what a big deal ICS is. I assure you, I am no less excited for the nexus, and I'd assume most others are of the same opinion.
