Nexus Excitement Dying Down?

I think the excitement was a little overblown at its peak, and now the letdown is a little too much, also. It's a phone that we'll all hopefully have some fun with in the near future. Nothing more.

MORE EXCITED THAN EVER!
ok... not really...
buuuuut I'm excited that some of you won't be in my way of getting the phone :p

Yeah...The excitement has been dying down ever since this device was nothing but a total rumor. The expectations for this phone were set extremely high. While the phone didn't turn out to be the "superphone" everyone was hoping for, it's still as good or better than almost any phone out there (except the GSII). I am a bit upset, however, about that the GSII beats out the Nexus in benchmarks. Given the GSII is almost a year old, I consider that to be a huge failure on Samsung's part.

Nevertheless, I think purchasing the Rezound under the premise that it's the better phone is a poor decision. I highly doubt the Rezound will be the better overall phone even once the Rezound gets ICS. There is still a lot to be said for the 4.65 inch display with no hardware buttons.

that is seriously one of the funniest things i have ever seen. That could not have been more perfect. BRAVO. BRAVO.

Lol yeah...This is one of the funnier Hitler videos I have seen. It might be the most accurate considering how all of us feel.

since I got my Razr 4 days ago, my excitement for the GN has subsided drastically. I will still likely return this rental when the GN comes out....but who knows? As a long-suffering BlackBerry user (5 years...because my company previously only supported BB email) I am in hog heaven with the Razr.

So yeah....the GN will drop when it drops. I'm in no hurry anymore.

Does anyone one find this to be the case with this phone? I was really excited for it to launch after its announcement and stayed that way for several weeks, but now I'm starting to feel a little disenchanted with it given VZW's never ending cloud of secrecy. I feel like they've robbed me of being excited about this phone because of one buzzkill delay after another.

I feel EXACTLY the same. I don't really care anymore. I still plan on getting the Nexus as I believe it to be the best device on VZWs network but, I'm not even remotely excited about it anymore. I've even spent some of my GNex money already (being that VZW doesn't seem to want it, unless I buy the device THEY want me to have)...on Skyrim lol. At least now I have something to do while I wait.

If you want to stay excited stay off the forums. To the average consumer the gnex (if they know about it at all) is an exciting phone that verizon will have coming out soon. They don't know about any delays because....well there haven't been any.... the phones release date has not been announced. The gnex is still the same phone it was last week..... if you liked it then you should still like it now.

Stay off of these forums? Google Galaxy Nexus and you'll find articles about missed dates. This whole "only enthusiasts care" is true to a point, but the idea that the average Joe can't find out info about a phone assumes he doesn't know how to go to Google and type in "Galaxy Nexus Release Date".

My excitement is gone. My money is now earmarked for gift giving. The company I work for "adopts" families every year who are struggling financially, and helps give them a gift-filled Christmas. This years families have especially harsh stories, so my $300 is going to charity instead of a phone.

Will I get the GNex? Hard to say now. I'm not swimming in cash like a lot of people around here seem to be, so I have to budget in advance for things like this. Opportunity missed, Verizon. Thanks for zero information. I'll just keep dealing with my little Samsung Rogue. The worst part is losing my $50 gift card, which will expire at the end of this year.

has my nexus excitement waned? no not at all - im still super excited about every aspect of this phone and will be getting it at the earliest available date, unless some major bug is found before release on the LTE variant of this phone.

What you SHOULD be asking is whether or not the excitement behind the RELEASE of this phone is dying down. Given the sheer amount of dates that have come and gone, it makes deafening sense that our excitement over the release has diminished, especially learning that the date with the most weight behind it is 2+ weeks away from now. its bound to leave some people in bad taste.

true believers of the nexus platform won't be put down by rumored software bugs and marketing delays. we are still going to be shelling out the advertised price for such a device and unless the mayan calendar expires us, we'll probably continue in that direction :p

Yea its died down, but............I am positive it will shoot straight to the moon the nanosecond VZ gives us the word.

:p

Given that another Nexus phone is a year away, I will continue to be excited by the GNex for awhile. Undoubtedly it will be old news by Spring, feature-wise, but better hardware saddled with bloatware and slow updates isn't necessarily superior in the overall perspective.

Since I still have a fully functioning phone, I don't need a new phone this instant, but I admit that (despite the above) any delay into next year would have me starting to look around at upcoming devices.

A great thing about the Nexus is if you buy one, you will have Google's best phone for a full year. Not like, say, HTC, where if you buy a phone in a few months a much better spec'd model is released with better software that your phone may never get (Sense on Thunderbolt vs Sensation, anyone?).

I think most the people that are not excited or not getting the phone anymore are probably people that have bought a phone in the past year and were going to play games to try and get a new one. This phone is not a million times better than a Thunderbolt/ Bionic but it def is over a Droid Eris. I waited the full two years and this is gonna be HUGE. Can't freaking wait!!

If everyone exercised this much discipline, the world would be a better place. I also give generously to many causes, and I urge everyone to give what they can during this especially arduous holiday season. The ills of this country and our world far supersede the need for any great new phone, a little perspective is good sometimes :)

Verizon will still get my money for a Nexus, might as well help those in need while I wait...

yep. As long as you have the appropriate adapter. You can also use an MHL adapter for mirroring.

USB hosting will work yes. But like the poster you quoted mentioned thumb drives (ie USB mass storage) will not. The same is true in vanilla Honeycomb. Google is now using MTP.

However with the correct adapter and rooting USB mass storage shouldn't be a problem once the devs have had a bit of time....once again like Honeycomb.....

Atleast with htc they seem to keep 1 high end per carrier look at moto who had the x2 then droid 3 with different blur, then bionic and then the razr less than 2 months later. The thunderbolt is only one of 2 lte devices on verizon and it isn't like htc has anything right around the corner for verizon. They all should slow down and work on keeping the phones up to date and fixing the bugs asap rather than pushing 10 phones all with similar issues.

Nope.

I am due for a 2 year upgrade in Nov and the GN is the phone I will wait to get. Coming from OG I don't want a OEM skin on a phone. If I choose to put a launcher or other thing on there that will be MY choice.

Don't care too much about the Camera since I have a 5mg DSLR camera I use but I do like the ability to take shots quickly.

As long as I can browse the web quickly, move my pics back and forth between my PC, access my Gmail, Gdocs, contacts, and I can make decent phone calls, run a few apps I am OK.

So even though there have been delays I can wait for the phone.

Two years from now the next best thing will be available and then I will look at that too.

Still Excited.
