After 9 hours it was only at 16%, I'll stick with my N1 and G2 before ever going back to a samcrap device. Most of my co-workers who chose the NS as there christmas present went back to their N1's (I chose Google TV).

Okay if it is taking to long to charge please contact Samsung or Best Buy. Ths is the only way. I am adding this to my Nexus S answers!
Has anyone got any updates on the battery issue?
I recenlty purchased the Nexus S and am finding it extremely slow to charge.
I haven't yet installed very many apps, only updated all the standard Google ones that come with the phone.
I have been charging it from the USB of my work computer this morning and these are the results so far:
First I turned off wifi & gps and made sure no applications are running that don't need to be.
Started charging at 9:53am with battery on 18%
Didn't use phone at all and checked it an hour later at 10:53am, still only 24% charge.
Now I know charging devices from a USB takes longer than mains but that's only +6% in one hour which seems ridiculois to me and makes the device unusable unless it's permanently charging. Even charging from the mains does not offer much improvement.
At the moment it looks like it is going to take all day and probably night to charge to 100%. Last night I left it around 80% charged and in the morning it was down to 20%, surely the battery shouldn't drain so quickly when in standby.
Is this just a faulty batch or are all of the Nexus S devices like this?
If there is no improvement I may have to return the device which I really do not want to have to do.

I would recommend trying with the AC power, just to see. Using USB, mine is really slow, too. Never timed it, but, I know not to use USB unless it's over night.
If it's really slow via the AC then perhaps there are some faulty units in the chain. Get an exchange at the store or contact google/samsung.

Have a look at the AC charger power ratings between the two. I'd imagine there's a difference in the output levels. There's also going to be software/hardware differences in the charging circuit, too. Perhaps Apple - knowing that once the battery is shot you'll be forced to upgrade to a new iPad - doesn't care about battery life and just crams the power in as fast as it can? Perhaps Samsung is trying to extend the service life of its batteries? I really don't know.
My N1 charged faster than my NS, but it uses a 1A charger versus the NS using a 0.8A charger. When connected to the 1A charger, my NS charged faster, and vice versa, the N1 took longer on the 0.8A charger. (That wasn't a surprise, btw).
I have no idea how the NS charging rate compares to other phones or devices, but compared to the N1, it didn't strike me as a big difference in rates. I've never timed it because it never struck me as an issue.
On USB, it does seem the NS takes noticeably longer than the N1. But the battery is still full after 6 hours. (Overnight, in other words)
My point in the previous post was simply this: if the USB is really really slow, like only gaining 30% in charge level after 8 hours(!), then try the AC power charger to see if it's still painfully slow. If it is, you probably have a bad phone or battery and I would contact Samsung. (You can get the contact info at Nexus S home page)
My best guess is it takes a couple of hours to get a full charge on AC with the Nexus S. Maybe 3. Like I said, I've never timed it, and the charge rate never struck me as an issue. (Unlike the stupid "Android OS" thing that drains the battery!)
You are going to want to kill the battery completely make the phone shut off by itself then charge it up to 100. Should speed up charging worked for me.
I always do that on my new phones. Open box, charge it 100, drain it completely until dead, then charge back up. But I only do this once. After that, I just charge every night regardless of the level. (Somedays I'm still at 60%!) May be why I've never noticed an issue with charging speed.
However, I would recommend against draining the battery to 0 too often. Maybe once every couple of months. Li-ion batteries last longer with short, partial charges versus full cycle charges. (The only reason to fully drain the battery is to ensure the OS and the battery are "synced" up on what they think the charge level is).
Slow to charge, but not that slow. I plug in at 10:30 at night at 6% and in the morning, 6ish, it reads 100% not even touching the device. But if you use it while charging, yes it does take a while.

The travel adapter that came with the NS is rated at 5V=.7A. I use a cheap wall charger I got from Wally World thats rated at 5V=.8A. I'm not sure what my USB port on my MacBook kicks out. But then again, I do plug it up at night before I go to bed and it's always fully charged in the morning.
Thanks for all the replies. I charged it over night and it's 100% at the moment. Going to see how long to battery lasts as if it lasts a long time then I'm not too worried.

All in all, apart from the charging, it's a quality phone and I am really liking the Android OS. I've come from having a couple of iPhones and I just love how with android everything synced (contacts, email, calendars, etc) and all I had to do was enter my email address and password.

It does slow but yours over slow. I have experienced that one day I just plug it in and left it at home, when I came back after 5hours it still display a yellow charging icon and didn't charged at all. I restarted it and everything becomes normal.

I have tried with the samsung charger, a new 1amp charger, and with the USB to computer. The only "acceptable" time that I get (but not good enough) is by switching the device off and charging (it gets fully charged overnighting).
So, did anybody fix the problem?? is it a matter of charge cycles??

My Nexus 4 4G charges WAY slower than my EVO 4G. It takes easily 5-6 hours and sometimes longer to charge and it has only once managed to charge to 100% and that was right after the first overnight charge. I am charging it each night using a 1amp charger. I have had the phone for about a week and have performed nightly recharges since I am using the phone all day long.
Curious if anyones battery charges above 96%. Mine usually maxes at 95% but a few times has reached 96%. It still takes 5-6 hours to recharge. I am using 1amp chargers just like with my EVO.
That's about normal for these phones; 95% - 97% after an overnight charge. Don't worry though, for the average use, the battery lasts the full day and then some; that 3% your "missing" isn't costing anything.
Ha! You are right about the percentage. These darn smart phones have waaaaaaay too much battery capacity

Thank you for the suggestion Jalarm! I thought that would work but it does not for me. I deplete it just about every day and it still takes 5-6 hours. In fact it seems to be taking a little longer to charge now. I use the phone quite a lot and the fact it takes so long to charge coupled with the slow recharge is making me more of a slave to the charger than previously with the EVO.
I am taking the phone back today basically for the terrible reception for 4g, wifi, etc. I don't think a new phone will be any different but that was the suggestion to get upper managements attention if phones start coming back in. I will be curious to see how the new one charges. Also, I should mention that I had the battery checked by a tech at the Sprint store last Friday. They found nothing.
