No more RCS is Samsung Messages?

...As for other messages issues are you in group chats? I dont know for group chats as ive seen it a issue members complaining about it that probably needs to get address between Apple and Android users and possibly some other things . I have a iphone but majority the time they catch me on my Andriod abd im not going looking for my iPhone just to send a text, facetime if i have it available then i use it or someone responds on that number.
I have a few folks on Apple devices in a "group text chat" (mms) with me. It works fine with them on their Apples and me on my Samsung. The "iPhone Reactions" thing however only works for me when one-on-one text/sms with an iPhone user.

IMO, Android does not do it well for Android users. Apple does. I don't care about the read reports. I'm referencing the capability to send videos and non compressed pictures thru the built in text messaging. iMessages does that for all iphone users, Android only if all people are using the same messaging app, which good luck with so many messaging apps. That's why I myself think that until Google sets a standard RCS messaging app that all messaging apps have to build from, apple will continue having the best text messaging app. It would be great if apple and Android phones could all have iMessage benefits between both devices.

I've used Google messages in the past and have had issues of not receiving all messages and others in my circle that tried it had those issues also.

iMessaging isn't really a text/sms messaging app, in my opinion. The way I look at it, it's a propriety messaging app for between Apple only devices, one that uses a propriety messaging data protocol for such purpose and for sending/receiving pics, reactions, emojis, gifs, videos, etc... For all that, one may as well compare it to WhatsApp or FBMessenger or Signal or Telegram (or even RCS), as any other data using app (ie: not an sms/mms/texting app). Then, iMessaging also just happens to also have this other thing hanging off the side of it, which also allows for sms/mms/text messaging between phone numbers for if an Apple device was to try to communicate with a non Apple device.

Difference is all iphones use it and it works. I would use WhatsApp, anything on Android if it was standard for all android users, all android phones have it and use it. Texting app or not, imessages is standard on iPhones, all iPhones have it, and it works well.

Google is trying, but until it's on all android phones and works good, and all android users are using it, it is useless right now IMO.

I agree with you that Apple made it easy for almost all Apple users to simply just stick with the default iMessaging app for all their sms/text/mms and messaging needs.

I also agree with you that if Google could do the same (force/encourage most Android users to all be on the same single sms/text/mms and messaging app) then things would be way more pleasant.

I however also have no desire for all of us to move to WhatsApp or FBMessenger or Signal or Telegram, etc... I also don't really care for everyone to have to move to RCS. All of those (including iMessaging) are propriety apps and protocols.

sms/text/mms is fortunately a standard and probably why many different phone manufacturers can release their own default apps for it while providing compatibility across many devices and OSs (and cross Apple/Android) via a simple identifier (the phone number).

Other than missing things like more rich exchanges and security, things are already kind of good are they not (if we all just actually used sms/text/mms instead of our favourite alternate propriety messaging app)?

The main issue is sms is a security nightmare which is funny that Apple let's companies default to sms verification on an iPhone.

The other issue is mms is a freaking joke. Each carrier has a mb limit for file size. Even then it is compressed to a point of being a 1990s camera phone quality. Especially when it comes to videos. The current method is a broken out date method that needs to be updated but no one will actually take charge.

Also Google needs to have an actual decent messaging app. In its current state is is one of the most basic messaging apps available. They just need to release the rcs api so that it becomes the standard between all messaging apps available to android. They want to have control like apple does over imessage. All they are doing is screwing over all the android users by trying to get all to use thier garbage messaging app.

Google has pretty good message app and Google is trying to lead the way in RCS but the Carrier's as usual get in the way , why the unlocked Samsung firmware Google messages is run by Google and the carrier Samsung Google message app is run by carrier on Google own app? Because carrier don't let things be .

It's so basic, you can only pin 3 conversations. The business and personal categories need to be managed by the user not Google.

The best way for google to lead the way is to release the rcs api. If every messaging app on android used rcs. That would literally force apple to adopt it. They won't because they want to be apple and they never will. They are not good at leading the way ever when it comes messaging. How many messaging apps have the released and killed off lol.

There going be improvement to Google messages of course like anything else and no Apple will not make it easy/want to/ join Android RCS regardless who's in charge of Android RCS, I don't see anyone else capable of leading this besides Google

The issue is that Google is locking down rcs. There are a lot of sms apps that have 10+ million downloads. Why not leverage all of those users to make rcs a more robust and streamlined experience.

The only app that has it is literally the most feature lacking sms app for android. Every other reputable sms apps has way more capabilities than Google messages will ever have. Google messages has been around for 8 years and it's still as basic as it was on day one.

Exactly, the carriers! They want as much control as possible.

I don't believe for a second that the carriers would ever work together to develop a product that would work seamlessly across each other's network. It would only work among their own subscribers.

At least Google is trying to create something universal.
:)

If every single messaging app had rcs as its standard. It would become a standard for android itself. That has way more leverage over a carriers than a single app with rcs capabilities.

It's the same reason why do Apple users use iMessages there are 3rd party message apps can do same or better such as Whatsapp/face book messenger ? Because it comes standard on the device and don't have to download extra apps , Google messages is a simple Interface with lot of features and becoming standard on all Android pretty soon, yes there are kinks to iron out but they are in the lead for Android message app default soon on all Androids . Goggle rcs communicate with any other Google RCS and some carriers RCS but untill Google grabs all of it and takes carrier out the picture then everything else will follow.and Google messages is not the same 8 years ago as it is now . Google trying to get everyone on same page but takes time they are getting there . Google not worried at the moment for 3rd party apps it first has to get it's app standard and Carriers out the way then handle next wave that comes about.

I don't have a problem with Google Messages App. It seems to work just as well for me as Samsung Messages worked. Also, just as well as BB10 Messages used to work. Now, I am not doing RCS right now. Still only doing actual sms/mms/text. The pinning limitations don't bother me. Sure I guess it would be nice to be able to pin more than three conversations. Once one pins too many however, then that kind of defeats the purpose of pinning. I don't use the categories (and for some reason I don't have the same ones as some others, maybe some of us are on a beta) so whatever limitations exist with that don't bother me. All the pics I send/receive via mms come out fine. The first ”S" of SMS stands for "short". MMS I believe is an extension of SMS. I don't have an expectation of being able to send extensively large pics/videos via SMS/TEXT/MMS. For that, I'll email or use a large file transfer or collaboration service.

For me, what I like about SMS/TEXT/MMS is they are free (on my plan). Anything else uses data against my plan (which is not free). Also, I don't care for the idea of proprietary apps/services (of which iMessaging and RCS both are).

I have no complaints with Google messages, it works great for everyone I've ever texted with it. It does the job just fine for group messages, video, and whatever else I've needed it to do. I'm not a power user, so I don't need or miss any "extra features" , but on all the phones it's came stock on it's worked great, including RCS with the few people that actually have it turned on. I'm going to miss the pixel versions of Google messages and the Google phone app with the built in call screening features, and vvm with rock solid voicemail transcription, when I move to my Samsung phone :-\
