No pop-up calendar alarms allowed in Android 10?!

After having done a lot of research, I've been using Business Calendar by Appgenix (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appgenix.bizcal) for years and am very happy with it.

One of the life-saving essentials is the way it provides pop-up notifications when an alarm I set in the calendar gets triggered, and they fill the middle half of the screen, are in front of all else, and persist there on the screen until directly addressed with a snooze, edit or delete action. For a very busy business exec I find this more than vital. It's super-critical!

But my Samsung S9 was just updated from Android 9 to Android 10 and the first thing that occurred was a full-screen message informing me that pop-up alarm notifications from the calendar app are no longer allowed!

And now all I get is a beep and a line in the pull-down notifications, which I would say is very close to being entirely useless compared to what the persistent pop-ups did.

This is not acceptable under any circumstances. I absolutely must find a way to get that functionality restored, even if I have to go back to Android 9.

Please tell me there's a way to get this functionality back without reverting to the previous OS!

Thanks!

Try enabling "Draw over other apps" for that app in the app settings (the path should be something like Settings > Apps > Business Calendar).

I tried to see if they said anything about which versions of Android they are compatible with, but couldn't see anything.

I've been getting notifications that some apps aren't compatible with A10.

Contact the developer. It looks like they reply to reviews, so that could be a way to find out.

The developer responded (within about 30 minutes, I might add, which is pretty darned impressive):

Hi,
thanks for the message. Unfortunately your issue cannot be resolved. Android 10 devices don’t allow to open popups when an app isn’t actively used. That is why we can’t show the reminder popups automatically anymore.
You are still be able to execute actions directly from the notification. If you have multiple reminders, you can click on them to manually open the popup.
We are sorry for the inconveniences but this is beyond our control!

Dominika Obacz from Business Calendar Support

And when I asked if keeping the app open but in the background would suffice, they said no, of course.

(And I can't believe a setting to appear in front of other apps is the solution since this needs to be a pop-up and, well, there is that reply from them directly above now.)

So, now what?

Any chance there's another calendar app that can provide these pop-up reminders?

Or is another workaround to achieve the goal I'm after?

Thanks so much!

Come on. There has to be some kind of workaround possible. Even a text message at least provides a notification on my home screen, for goodness sake. Surely I can get my calendar to give me alarm notifications as blatant pop-ups somehow. A notification just in the notifications tray is completely useless.

It's not like it's Apple and all locked up with proprietary everything.

I have never once even considered extremes like jailbreaking or rooting and so forth, but I need pop-up calendar alarms, period! Surely somebody here can help me figure this out and find a creative way of making it happen.
