Using a Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro Fold.
Both are running Android 15.
No matter the default browser set, links open in Chrome instead.

On both devices I have the Samsung Browser installed and it is set to default. This also happens if I have another browser set as default (not Chrome).
When I am in many apps, if I select a link, it is opening in Chrome instead of the default browser.
I have Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Samsung installed browsers.

Am I missing a setting or is this a 15 issue?

Perhaps you have set the wrong browser as the default for that app. Let me explain. Above someone asked where you are getting these links or where are you clicking on them, and I do not see a reply from you. There are a few different ways the browser could be set as the default and this be the result.

When you say you set the Samsung Browser as the default I'll assume you mean you said "Yes" or agreed to make the browser the default when it asked, Do you want to make this your default browser, while you were performing some action, which does make it your default in most cases for most things but not if you've previously set a different browser as the default inside of another app before this.

If you've ever been using an app to do something like opening a link, taking a photo or some other action where there is a dedicated app for that task outside of the app you are using and gotten a pop-up at the bottom of the screen that says, which app would you like to use to complete this task, then chose an app, and then been given the option for this to be the default action or do it just this time. If a default action is set this way it will override any other defaults that were set. A lot times this can happen without thinking as an automatic response and because it doesn't ask again can easily be forgotten about. The way to fix this would be to go to Settings>Apps>scroll to find the browser you do not want to use>Set as Default>Remove all Defaults.

When you do this, the next time you use any app that has this app as the default it will ask again which app you would like to use, and if you want to set this app as your default. In this case you would just pick the app you really want as the default and agree to make it the default.

Let us know if this works for you.

Make sure one of the selected browsers is set by default in settings menu under apps >default apps also scroll down and tap opening links in apps and toggle off the ones you don't want

Thanks all for the replies.
I have Sammy set as the default browser. I have Chrome unchecked including links.
If I am in an email (Proton) and click a link I get the Sammy Browser.
If I am in an app like Pinterest and click on a link it opens in Chrome. In Reddit it opens in Chrome.
For all of these I get a message at the top of the screen that says “Running in Chrome”
In FairEmail, even with a default set it shows Sammy but wants confirmation.

I cannot uninstall Chrome. If I pause it and go into Pinterest and click on a link, I get a warning that says “App Paused. Chrome is paused for the rest of the day.”

For now I have disabled Chrome with all its accompanied warnings. Now ads or links are trying to open in their online version of their app. Example: I click on an ad for an item in Etsy and it opens in a generic online version of the Etsy app which is not installed. I do get a drop down (three dot menu upper right) option to open in Samsung Browser.

This has me puzzled. I have other Android phones (Galaxy, OnePlus, Nothing) and this issue only occurs on the Pixel.

btw - I tried an alternative launcher (Nova) and the behavior didn’t change.
