Not liking the Nexus 5X because of lag

re:

But overall yes the Nexus 5X has a lag problem that desperately needs resolving.

Also, if you have encryption enabled, you might try disabling it. Lastly, since its a nexus, make sure you have the latest update.
You can't disable encryption on a stock, bootloader-locked, unrooted Nexus 5x.

re:

I honestly don't know what lag people are talking about. I haven't had one issue out of my phone. I'm a pretty heavy user too

I do use the FB app with background sync disabled. I've not noticed the lag others are reporting.

re:

I think the screen transition to Google now is what many people are mistakenly taking as lag. Its a little choppy when transitioning But, this is a problem with the Google now launcher and has nothing to do with the phones optimization. It will do this on any phone. It's gotten better but I use Nova and it's the smoothest phone I've ever used

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me the lag is the transition switching to and from apps or sometimes just launching apps. Within the apps themselves, there's no lag (scrolling, going through different screens).

As far as I can tell, the lag isn't universal. Every thread I've seen about lag has several people saying "What's with the lag? The lag is horrible" and other saying "What lag? There is no lag. It's just you."

So it seems to be affecting a lot of people and not affecting a lot of people.

We may perceive lag different but opening apps doesn't strike me as taking a long time. Have you ever thought that it could be the app? Could need to get caught up to Marshmallow. Also YouTube I noticed takes an eternity to open.. But that's on any Android device I use. Kind of ironic

I don't know what's up with it either. Compared to my previous smart phones from Samsung, HTC, and Motorola my 5X is faster and more responsive that any of my previous smart phones, but considering it's newer with better hardware it should be, and it is for me, so far. But lag? I cannot say I have experienced it.

re:

I'm having serious problems with lag and responsiveness with mine. It's the kind of behavior that screams of a memory leak somewhere. The phone gets to the point where I can count to five before the screen responds to a touch. Restarting the phone solves it for two or three days. I'm not sure if this is an app problem, or a system issue, but I never saw performance problems like this with my Nexus 4, 5, 6, or my Moto G.

Yes exactly! That's exactly what I experience. When the phone wakes up, and going to and from apps or trying to launch an app and especially the camera.

It can't be the app, because it happens equally with all apps, including the Google ones, which you'd think Google would optimize for Marshmallow.

I don't think it's a huge deal (I'd sure like Google to address it in future updates), but I am experiencing it, and it appears (though not universally) others are as well. It's not always PEBCAK (or whatever the smartphone equivalent is). Believe me—I've tried all the standard advice (don't restore apps from backups, wipe the cache, etc.).

re:

For those of you with lag, try scaling back the animations under developer options to.5. That should make things more snappy.

I did that to mine on day one. It still has the lag when waking up and going from app to app at times. Some people say that after the last update it made things better, but not by much.

re:

Also on top of that every time I get off a phone call the screen never turns on. I have to push the power button 3 or 4 times before it even responds. I don't know if anyone else experiences that, but it's always been that way since I got the phone. Essentially I take the phone away from my ear to look at it and press the disconnect button except the phone never turns on to light up the screen. I've never had this before ever. And it's been like that with all the firmware updates so far. Anyone else experience that?
