Note 20U 512gb coming and thinking about the Watch3 but need some advice from you pros.

I haven't worn a watch in years since I'm forever 2 feet away from my phone/computer for notifications, communication etc. I work out but not to the point of wanting health or fitness tracking features.

Love the gadget-ness and tech of the Watch3 but I'm trying to find some utility in my situation.

Am I missing some reason to have a smartwatch?

Smartwatch is basically an extension of your smartphone. Quick glance of things and you don't have to pull out your phone to see things. You can take calls, text, and email. I find myself using my watch quite a bit.

Ditto that. It's more convenient to tap my wrist than to unlock my phone and check/reply from there. The phone does the heavy lifting, not the menial all during the day stuff that the watch can do quite well.

I download music to exercise to so I don't need my phone. Not all my leggings have pockets. Again, convenience.

Android Wear OS and Galaxy watches (Tizen OS) are pretty much useless in terms of app support . Personally don’t see them appealing compared to Apple Watch and it’s a shame we don’t have great Watch options for Android phones and developers don’t care about wear os or tizen os.

I don’t miss not using a watch with Android because they aren’t great, but if you want to use one Galaxy Watch should be on the top easily. Every new Galaxy Phone pre order i get the corresponding Watch only to be disappointed with them. Personally think you aren’t missing anything not using smart watch especially on Android.

Ok thank you. It really is more of a convenience than reaching for the phone beside you.

I tried out a Galaxy Gear Frontier version. I don't know if it was 1st or 2nd gen. I had previously used android wear.

I don't know if they have improved it, but when I left to go back to WearOs, it was still one of the dumbest smartwatches I have used. It barely had an app store. It was more of a watchface store.

I'm happily using a Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro.

If Apple would make a watch that didn't look like a mega chiclet and worked on Android, that would be something.

Personally, I think that it would be great if Samsung ditched Tizen. Galaxy design with the bigger app store from wearos would be a boost to both.

I personally wouldn't paid $400 plus dollars or give up my accessory credit for a phone.... I got my Galaxy sport watch free with the purchase of my old Galaxy s8.... And it does all the basic things that the new $400-plus watch does.

Yeah. I wouldn't either. Mine was sub-$300.

Unless you really like the design with the rotating bezel and that is a must have, then I would recommend the Watch Active2 instead, way better value for money.

Yeah, I see no need for me to upgrade from a galaxy watch 46mm either, I can get good battery life on the GW. I wouldn't mind the watch strap from the new GW 3 it looks nice, some of the watch faces look cool also.

One thing I’m looking forward to from coming from Apple Watch series 5 to galaxy watch 3 is the battery life. My battery is awful on my Apple Watch.

The older or last gen GW 46mm battery is a beast can last 4 days! I've no idea why Samsung actually went backwards with the GW3 dropping down to 2 days.

I think they wanted to go thinner and lighter with a smaller battery.
I also believe that they (mistakenly) think if a one day battery life works for Apple customers it will work for their customers.

I am pretty happy with my Galaxy Watch (46MM) battery; much better than my old Gear S2 - But, I am jealous of the battery life my wife's Garmin gets of around a week.

I'll stick with my OG Galaxy Watch until the newer models can boost battery performance. I do miss MST that the Gear S2 had, but that's by no means a deal breaker. My Notes have it, and many retailers have added tap to pay functionality anyway.

I'll stick With Samsung as I think they have the best combo of appeal and function; Certainly more appealing than the square Apple Watch.

My watch is really important, being in the medical field. I am writing down times, can see notifications instantly (can't have phones in the lab). And of course, I work out 4-6 times a week, so it's important to me. May not be for everyone, but it's just an easier way to see notifications with the flick of the wrist, instead of pulling out the phone.

I have an Active 2 but I got the watch 3 for the nicer look (business casual work clothes daily). I also like the rotating bezel. However value wise, trading in my active 2 for $150 credit and still being basically $300 after tax for the 46mm bluetooth watch 3 , is nuts.

Its basically the same and those that stated above the active 2 is a much better buy and you can find pre owned for around $200 or so.

Im still debating if I will keep the watch 3, just doesnt sit right that the $300 really didn't gain me much, but I do love the rotating bezel.

I see the convenience, fashion, fitness and cool tech aspects of a smartwatch described above. Also, checked google on "why" a smartwatch would be necessary. In my own case of always being within arms reach of my phone the convenience of notifications not having to pick up my phone is outweighed by charging it and actually having to wear a watch. Been really nice not having to wear one for so many years. Love to play with the tech but in my use case it would probably be a plaything rather than provide real utility.

I'm actually the opposite. The idea of not having a watch on is...incredibly alien to me. I have always worn one. I even funded the Pebble when it resurrected the smartwatch and led to what we have now.

Couple of things that appealed about it to me, maybe not for you.. the new health stuff, ECG and eventually (I hope) blood pressure monitoring.. not automatic but as someone with lifelong high blood pressure I like the idea of being able to check it from my watch. (active 2 has these features as well) The BP is awaiting FDA approval, think it's been granted in South Korea already..)

I was reading that some of these health readings arent accurate. Most recently mr. Mobile's review
