I had a bad proximity sensor on an old phone. You can try to blow air into the top ear piece to dislodge dust interfering with the sensor. If that doesn't work, then you should send it back to the carrier or Samsung for warranty

Hi.. Excuse my ignorance but what does blowing air into a speaker have to do with a electronic sensor?
They are not the same unit.
The proximity sensor is one of the 2 black dots at the top next to the speaker....

I've done this exact same thing on my Note 2 with a can of air and it fixed my proximity sensor. Sounds silly but it works. The surprise is that I tried blowing air in the head phone opening and guess what !!
It worked
