Note 5 - Marshmallow update

The 'confirmed' date for International/Unlocked Note 5 and S6+ Edge will be December 2015, so Marshmallow is very unlikely to hit carrier-branded phones this year.

For me the biggest changes are Memory Adoption (useless for newer Samsung phones though) and Doze... BUT with the app optimization thingy that Samsung already implemented, many of us are seeing Doze-like improvements, especially on tablets.

I just seen yesterday a memo from official Samsung that says Note 5 M update will be available in December 2015 which means for us AT&T folks, that means late 2016.

But seriously, December 2015 is what it said. I assume that's when it will become available for carriers to molester a bunch before release.

That's...not so accurate. If the December 2015 date holds true in the memo, that's the date for release to international models (i.e. units sold directly from Samsung, no carrier branding or further software tinkering). That means that carriers would have the update available a few weeks in advance. Problem is, most carriers don't push theirs soon (although it's been improving). I wouldn't be surprised if we see carrier updates arriving in Q1 2016.
