Note 5 - Screen Cap Sharing Issue

I have a Note 5 running 5.1.1

Lately, I've been having a problem sharing screen captures I've created using the S-Pen. Here's what I've been doing:

Select SMART SELECT after removing pen
Select the area I want to capture
Click SHARE and select an APP (example, BBM, ADD A PIN, Twitter)
When I select BBM or Pinterest, nothing happens. Screen flashes and goes back to the screen cap.
When I select Twitter, it opens, but with no capture.
However, if I select the MESSAGE (to send a text) app, the image attaches. If I try to go back to BBM, Twitter or Pinterest after that, those apps will open and the image is attached!

This problem started recently..Not sure what the issue might be...Hoping this makes sense to someone. Tried restarting the phone but no joy.

Thank you.

Did you deny the SPen app or the intended Share-app any specific permissions? Perhaps a disabled permission is preventing that app from accessing the gallery or camera or wherever the screen capture is stored.

I dont remember denying it access..Just a couple of follow ups:

If it was a permissions issue, why would sharing the screen cap first with the MESSAGING app and it works and then allow me to share the same image with the other apps in question? In other words, I have to share it first with MESSAGING for it to work.

How would I reset S-PEN permissions or anything to do with the SHARING feature?

Thanks.

I tried a test just now by selecting a small screen capture, and sharing to Hangouts. Hangouts opened up and the screen capture image was automatically inserted into an existing discussion that I selected.

I'm on Marshmallow now, but have had success sharing screen captures before with 5.1.1.

Maybe the specific apps you've tried to test are slow in attaching the screen capture image? That might explain the delay your seeing where going into the Messages app and then back to the test app (BBM for example) the capture appears.

Does the problem appear with all apps that show up in the Share list? Appreciate that could be quite a few apps depending upon how many you have, but trying a few more than you have listed above may help to indicate if the problem is with specific apps, or a more general system issue.

Do you have the latest versions of the Apps that don't seem to work? Have you tried uninstalling these Apps and reinstalling them?

Re: Note 5 - Screen Cap Sharing Issue

Ok. . Just tried taking a screen cap and sharing with Facebook Messenger, Google Keep and Google mail..it did not attach

The only app that worked was sharing it with Facebook pages manager. If I save the screen cap first and then share..it works. But sharing directly from the screen cap is not working. It almost seems the image is not being written to someplace temporarily so it could then be shared (?).

Have not tried uninstalling anything because this problem just started a week or so ago. Until then I could share with no issues. Thanks!!

Could it be Facebook pages manager that is "taking over the system" and somehow has set itself to be the default screen image sharing app? Probably not, but at this point worth a look to see if uninstalling Facebook app would make a difference.

So the plot thickens. Now none of the apps are working. I can't share with any apps from the screen cap screen. I contacted Samsung..guess what? Wipe the phone was their answer. That's an absolute last resort option.

So far I've tried safe mode, resetting app preferences and it still does not work. So here's my question: when you take a screen cap and the options appear at the bottom (share, save etc), does the capture save temporarily somewhere? Perhaps the folder was deleted or permission issue on the folder (just throwing things out there at this point).

Thanks

Have you by chance used Package Disabler to disable any services or service apps? If so, you may wish to re-enable them and then see if your issue is resolved.

DCIM\Screenshots is one place to check, or the screenshots could go into the Clipboard until you choose to save or discard the capture.

Thanks for the suggestions . I tried cleaning out the screenshots folder, deleting the screenshots folder and the same result. Can't share directly after taking a screen cap with spen

Haven't used any package disabler. It's so frustrating because it was working up until a week or so ago. If anyone thinks removing the apps I've installed over the past week is worth a shot I will try it.

At this point it probably won't hurt to try that. Just make a list for each app that you uninstall, and after uninstalling try the screen capture share, then write down the results. I suggest this approach in the event you have a lot of apps installed. If it were me, I might forget which app I uninstalled :)

I have the same issue for the last week or so . For me though, I can click share after capture, cancel and click share again. It's just a workaround until I find the issue. I'll keep track of this post just in case you come up with something.

I have the same issue over the last week. This is something I use alot. As a workaround, after capturing I click share, cancel (back button), share again and it attaches 100% of the time. Hopefully we can find an answer soon. I'm not in the mood for a factory reset.

And just like it started, it's gone. Works perfect again and I have no idea what happened. I haven't even updated any apps. Go figure, maybe you'll have similar luck.

This solution works for me as well. Can't explain why but after it fails to capture the intended content I just push the back button until the content reappears and then I share it again and PRESTO!
