Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

Note 5 & S6 are not that much different

I don't think you'll be saying that when you have them both for a while, I don't think you'll pick up the iPhone 6 again. Save your money.

Feel free to ignore the hype about the S Pen. It's a distraction from the 1.5 million ways that the Note is better, even if you never touch the pen. I say this as a Note fan who NEVER EVER used the S Pen. The sun will go nova, and I'll have spent the whole time between now and then loving the Note and hating the S Pen.

Emphasizing "loving the Note." I'm in a family of wall-to-wall iOSers, including a couple that used to work at Apple HQ, and I get nothing but oohs and ahhs from them. One recently looked at another and said, "Tell me again why we don't have Samsungs?" There's simply no comparison.

I don't know that it matters, but I'm a former iPhone user. I still have an iPad. I troubleshoot Macs and iDevices for my friends and family. I know my way around them, and I don't hate them on principle or anything. I'm just telling you that I honestly can't imagine anyone who spends time with a Note even THINKING about going back to an iPhone.

I hear rumors that such people exist, mind you, but I don't believe they're true. LOL

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

I use both. Note 5 personal, iPhone 6S Plus for work. The Note 5 is the better of the two.
More stable and more options.
Running with ATT stuff disabled and Nova Prime launcher.

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

I love both devices. It really depends whether you prefer iOS or Android.

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

I tried the iPhone 6s and there are 2 things that I didnt like on it... 1) when looking at pictures on the 6s the photo isnt full screen, has black bars on each side, 2) the screen resolution sucks on the 6s.. colors don't pop and lettering is very thin and light in color

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

The bottom line is that both are killer devices that would make the average user very happy for a long time. The differences all come down to preferences- are you already deep into the Apple world, with a Macbook Pro and an iPad? Do you need for your phone to be deeply customizable? Do you need a stylus? Are all of your friends on iPhones and you want to be able to Facetime with them? Does 3D touch entice you? Only you can answer these questions.

For me, I know I'd be happy with either but the fact that the base iPhone still only comes with 16GB means that I'm getting a Note 5 today.

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

Was debating between the note 5 and the phone 6s plus.

Got the 6s plus. I recommend the plus over the 6s.

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

I love my note 5, but I have been making eyes at the 6s+. I was just going through an imore forum on its battery life and the entire time looking at their screenshots was just a mix of shock and pure jealously. To add to that iPhones usually just work and work well, I don't know, it's starting to look tempting. Especially that I've come to the point that customizing every little thing on launchers and all of that is beginning to lose its appeal after a few years. The camera is insane on the Note 5 and it is a great device, but I'm just not sure it's enough to keep me from the 6s+.

Won't lie the battery life is spoiling me compared to my 6 edge.

Lol, this is what I mean. Standby time is impeccable. One guy said he was at 91% from 7 AM to 4 PM with light usage and I'd be flabbergasted if I saw that on any of my android devices. Sometimes having things that "just work" is far better than disabling everything for maybe an extra 2 hours of battery life. Like I said, it's the camera and gallery that are keeping me right now because I hate the black bars on the iPhone's gallery.

Samsung really needs to fix RAM management.

Note 5 vs iPhone 6s Plus Speed Test

http://youtu.be/Mx6XaV2K8Go

I don't honestly believe that's the case. I've been watching these speed tests as well and the Note 5 so far has beaten every single 2015 Android phone, including the just-released Xperia Z5 which has some pretty impressive specs and also boasts a pretty light UI. So the Note 5 has managed to do this not only with the RAM management issues some people are claiming is a culprit but also using another common target of blame, Touchwiz. That being the case, I'm forced to put this more on Android than on Samsung specifically. I can't even blame qualcomm in this case because it doesn't have their CPU.

When nVidia came out last year with their new tegra K1 CPU powered Shield Tablet I took a good long look at a bunch of benchmark scores and according to Anandtech it blew both Apple's A8 powered tablets as well as the Snapdragon powered ones. The 2 tablets that appeared at the top of most of the benchmark tests were the iPad Air and the Shield, testament to the K1 but also to the A8.

So in that case, yes I could point the finger somewhat at Qualcomm. This time around I can't since the Note 5 isn't using one so I'm either going to have to say that either A) The A9 CPU beats anything else on the market hands-down, B) iOS 9 out-speeds Android 5.11 still by a country mile, or C) All of the above.

Re: Note 5 or iphone 6s?

Within this current calendar year I have used the BB Passport, Iphone6/6+, I'm currently using the Note 5 and S6.
Needless to say the BBP and S6 are my two favorite devices thus far,the Note 5 would be a close 3rd with the Iphone
6 models respectively being at the bottom of my list. It's somewhat of an unfair argument this Samsung vs Apple phone
comparison because its apples vs oranges.

My reason for switching from the Iphone to the Samsung was the limitations
I believe Apple imposes within it's phone which cages the creative minded person.
I enjoy using the Edge Screen and its capabilities, not to mention the Battery Life is
night and day difference, along with the quick charger for the Galaxy. I do believe the
Iphone is a simpler phone to use as far navigating around the interface, its pretty straight forward
not as difficult to get lost as the Galaxy S6/Note5.

Samsung Pay vs Apple Pay was a marginal deciding factor for me, although once SPay goes full blown
and more Banks sign on, it's going to be a real game changer.

Ultimately for me I looked at Apple as more of a Cult...since they don't really making significant
changes from model to model. TBH looking at the 5s-6s it doesn't really feel like any
marquee changes were made outside of the size and design of the phone, you can't say the same for the Note 4/5
or S5/S6.

Note 5 vs iPhone 6s Plus Speed Test

While I agree with your statement, it must be noted that in real world use this test has no real value. Nobody opens apps back to back to back.... Like that without actually doing something within each app. Secondly, if you notice on this test and many other side by side tests around the Web, the note 5 on a 1 on 1 open app test beats out the 6s plus . It even beats it on just running the UI because the 6s plus's opening and closing graphics are slower. For comparison purposes use cars as an example. Some people buy sports cars because they go fast, but there is a speed limit so they can't even really see what the car can do on the street. What they can do is go 0-60, and that's what really matters getting on and off ramps and when pulling out into traffic you want that power at your disposal. In real world phone use you want your phone to open the app your trying to use or load the Web page your trying to view. The note 5 has that power on hand to more times then not get it done and get it done faster then any known phone on the planet to date. It's limit is it's memory management which has gotten better and I hope will be completely fixed with marshmallow.

Look I get it, with the hardware the note 5 has, it should beat the iPhone 6s plus all around in any tests thrown at it but it's always been the case that apple has better optimization because it's os is made for only a few devices where Android has to accommodate 100s of devices and oem's overlay then carrier bloat. The fact that Android still runs very close to the same speed should be respected not constantly considered negative. That's just my opinion.

3d touch is a pretty nice feature of the iphone 6s curious to see how developers utilize the 3d touch.

Actually I think if other companies could use the A9 processor on Android it will still blow everything out of the water. Remember, in a lot of those benchmarks, you are comparing 8 core phones with a 2 core phone. Both Qualcomm and Intel have been disappointing in this regard.

On the benchmarks I've seen the single core rating is higher on the a9 but the multi-core rating is far less.

Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I'm getting irritated with myself because I keep switching back and forth between the two platforms. I just want to make a decision already and stick with it. Had the iPhone 6S on launch weekend. Nothing wrong with it. Really enjoyed it actually. And it complemented my iPad Air 2 perfectly. But yesterday was day 13 of my 14 day return window and I panicked. Went out and exchanged it for the Note 5. Bought a case, screen protector, and wireless charger. So, I'm all in. Haven't touched my beloved iPad since. Now here is the problem. When I use the note, I don't want to use any complementary devices. After a while, I miss my iPad and I want to switch back, but I need the iPhone to go with it. I have been doing this for years. And it's making me feel quite ridiculous. But I can't choose. And I don't know why.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

This might be a bad suggestion, but what about getting a second line and have that be the iPhone line? Keep the Note, and you can dual wield devices...:D
