Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I'm personally going back to iOS as my phone platform. I'm so tired of having to grab my ipad for the iOS only apps I use every day. The S Pen on the Note 5 is really useful and i've actually used it at least once a day for the month i've had it, but a pen doesn't make up for the constant frustration of apps I really like showing up on iOS first and only sometimes getting Android releases. And apps like Union, Waterlogue, and Hyperlapse are never coming to android from what I see.

The photography apps are pretty good in both platforms. If you just take a little time in Play Store just like you did in the App Store, you will find your alternatives for Union and Waterlogue. And for hyperspace, Note 5 camera already has fast motion (and slow motion) with which you can take your hyperlapse video.

Funny thing is, if I didn't research this stuff and talk about this stuff all the time, I wouldn't care so much. But it's true, being on the forums and tech websites makes me want new devices. How many times have you been happy with your device, but then you read on the forums that someone else had an issue and all of a sudden you have discovered the same issue and now it's intolerable? Or that there are rumors about a software update and now you are upset because you have had to wait such a long time for it? This may not be a popular thought here, but it has given me some pause tonight as I reflect on my issue. I'm looking forward to turning in my Note 5 next year for a Note 6 when I'm due for another upgrade. No more exchanges, no more cases, no more tech sites, no more forums, until it's time for me to upgrade this time next year. The forums for most is another great thing. Members get help with their devices and learn to use them better. For me, it has turned into a bad habit. A reason to indulge in a pricey hobby that stresses me.

Have you had any desire to use iPhone again? I literally cannot make up my mind. I keep telling myself I know the Note is the right choice for me but gosh that iPhone is just so perfect when you hold it in your hand. But it's boring. And I must say that it's now buggier then my note ever was thanks to ios9. My iPad crashes constantly when I try and delete apps now. When stuff like this happens, ios starts to feel antiquated and I'm like ok, time to abandon this and back to android. I swear I'm literally considering eeny meeny miny moe at this point

Seriously?

If I wasn't required to use a 6s at work I would never even pick up one again.

We really need to talk to the Mods at AC and iMore about getting some sort of support group going! Ha!

This is my current tech s(h)ituation: using a Note 5, love the camera, love the screen, still hate that it'll be 2026 before I see Marshmallow - and then who knows if it'll jack up the phone or not. Have a 128gb Nexus 6P on order that seems like it'll be 2026 before I ever get the d a m n thing - I am not patient enough for a month long wait when I ordered as soon as it went live. I also have a Chromebook Pixel that I just bought on eBay and a Moto 360 2015 on order. Then I got stupid and picked up a might as well be new 6s Plus on Swappa, just in case the 6P failed me. Haha! I may actually switch over to that until I get my 6P and see which one I like more. And no, I don't have enough money to keep everything, unfortunately. Just happen to have enough in my PayPal credit account to cover this for the time being. :)

The 1st World struggle is real.

Haha.. I hear ya man.. I do exactly the same thing.. My GF is keeping me from doing it more often just so I don't have to kiss her arse every other day lol.. But when I make my mind up thats it I jump all in and get on amazon and order the case and sometimes get a screen protector and then sell my phone right when the new one arrives (usually on craigslist so it's gone) and then I have it for a few days and she always asks "so how do you like this one" and of course i'm elated and say "its the best device so far never going back to the iphone, that thing is so boring and locked down, look what this thing can do" and blah blah blah and she rolls her eyes.. then probably 12 hours after I say that this one is doing something to irritate me and thats all it takes.. a few minor irritations and i'm off the bandwagon and onto the new one and back trying to find an iphone and the cycle repeats until 2026!!!! I am cooked

and the whole marshmallow (or any new OS update from google) on anyphone that isn't a nexus is ridiculous.. it's so frickin frustrating to not get the latest OS updates 4,5,6 months out.. and then google has already patch a bunch of bugs and more than likely the OS you get is pre-bugged.. but samsung or whatever manufacturer it is that you are using, took those bugs out themselves somehow and there aren't there but instead you have bugs from samsung or whoever and then throw in the damn carrier bugs and you got yourself a piece of garbage until 2 months later they patch that crap.. i think that is my number one problem.. I want the nexus but that damn camera is a joke.. probably again this year.. and no OIS is already a damn problem for me since all other phones have it.. want my cake and eat it too..

I haven't had the urge to go back to the iPhone just yet. Actually, I haven't picked up my iPad since getting my Note 5. I'm just trying to get through my 14 day return window so I can relax. No more switching. No more accessories. Just going to enjoy this awesome smartphone and chill.

I think I'm gonna switch back to my note 3. My iPhone has so many issues. Ios9 really ruined a lot of things. It's like my one year old phone is already obsolete. But what is it that makes me not wanna get rid of it? What is it about ios that keeps drawing me in. I don't even get it. My Note runs circles around my iPhone. Ugh. I know what the right choice is I just need a push of some kind to do it lol

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I know. My mom bought me the iPhone as a gift out of nowhere and it all started there. Sucks cuz I was perfectly happy and yes I did love my Note. It's literally got my entire life on it. I need to remember that and just go back completely

I'm ordering a 64gb micro SD today cuz I'm a movie lover. This will free up lots of space on my phone memory. I think I'm just gonna head on back to android where I belong

Don't get me wrong. The iPhone is a great smartphone. I have owned all of them. I have never had a problem with any of my iPhones. But, then again, I have owned every Note and never had a problem with any of those. What it comes down to me is the same as it did last year when I was bouncing from 6 Plus to Note 4. The Notes are better smartphones. They are the best smartphones in my opinion. But the iPhone plays in the best ecosystem. And because you can use Google services, it becomes a very enticing option. But in the end, the Note is the better device. Better screen, more features, better camera, better hardware design, and... s-pen.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I hear you. I'm in the same boat. I had a Galaxy S4 when it came out. I loved it. I could do so many things with it. I loved exploring all of the things Android could do. At the time, Apple only made small phones and I had no interest in a 3.5 - 4 inch screen. I thought that was a joke. However, over time I noticed how buggy the experience could be. My wife has an iPhone 6 Plus and I would try some of the same apps on her phone and the experience was so smooth to the point where it made the app experience on my Galaxy S4 a complete joke, which really irritated me. Also, I got really tired of the standby battery life compared to her phone. No matter what app I used to kill background processes, it made very little impact. In addition, there would be times when I would have a full battery and if I was in a location with bad cell service, it would just kill my battery even on standby. These were issues that my wife's iPhone just handled better.

I think the last straw for me was when Samsung only offered the Galaxy Note 5 with 64GB of storage. I can live with a sealed battery, but to accept less storage than I had on my Galaxy S4 because it could accept Micro SD cards was not negotiable. So now I have an iPhone 6S Plus. It is a good phone. I'm not going to say I couldn't be happier because there are things the iPhone cannot do or at least not as well as an android phone. For example, the notification experience on android just kills the iPhone. There are compromises you have to make with each platform, it just depends what features are most important to you. I just got tired of the inconsistent experience. I do miss the customization options. Once again, tradeoffs.

I will continue to monitor the new androids as they come out, but for now I have switched. One final thing I will say is if Apple had not offered large screen phones, I would not have even considered an iPhone.

I wonder how much money I would save over the next year by just keeping what I currently have? How much time I would save?
