Note 5 vs Note 4 discussion

If they had been released at the same time, would you get a Note 4 or Note 5?

My recent apps opens in about 1/3 of a second or less. I did the above noted mods way way way back when I got my Note 4. I don't believe I have any lag but some folks are less sensitive to it than others.

I love my Note 4. Between it and my old Nexus 5 there's just no contest though my Nexus 5 has no lag either. The screen on the Note 4 is just exceptional.

Re: Undecided... Note 5 or Note 4?

By comparison, the Note 4 feels much slower. I personally went for the Note 5. The removal of SD card and battery really hasn't hindered the device. There are just far too many pros upgrading to faster, more optimized tech. Not saying the Note 4 is a bad choice, I mean it will be cheap and affordable to everyone and possibly the best phone that offers SD and removable battery combo but the Note 5 in my opinions wins by far in everything else.
That's great for you, it's a fantastic phone. It's just that I use the Note series for heavy usage like having CNN live in the background throughout my day until bedtime, and carry it away from my office during lunch, errands, etc. With the Note 5, I have to be mindful of always plugging it to a wall charger. I never needed to worry about that with my Note 4 cuz of removable batteries.

Well, I always want the latest and the greatest, and the 5 sounds terrific. BUT, although I could probably do without the removable battery (though I would dearly miss it), the lack of a SD card slot may be a deal breaker to me . I have 32 gigs internal and 128 gigs on my card in my Note 4. I don't know if I could live with 64 max.

Note 4. Better options with battery life. First thing I do with all of my previous Note phone is buy two batteries. In my Note 4's case a 5200mAh extended slimline for my normal days, and the 10000mAh Zerolemon for my @#$%@ charging days. My N4 Lols at the "good" battery life on the Note 5.

Does the extended slimline work with the note 4 wireless charging back? Who makes it?

I purchased the Note 5 over the Note 4 because it's the new model that's future-proof with its 4GB of RAM and octo-core processing. The Note 4, to me, is outdated.

What's important for you in a phone?

The term future proof is very counterintuitive for tech like this. 3gb and 4gb with Android is very little difference and the current chips are not any more FP than last years.

Perhaps if FP is used in relative terms: The Note 5 is FP compared to the NGage. That makes it more pertinent ;) I actually liked the NGage when it was released......

There's actually a lot of difference in terms of speed of the phone with the extra GB of RAM. Seriously, go to Best Buy and put both the Note 4 and Note 5 side-by-side and play with both devices. You'll see the speed differences.

Re: Note 5 vs Note 4, and why I am going back to my Note 4.

Hmmm. Maybe I need to clarify. We can still read and reply emails, texts, etc in the split screen mode with compatible apps, but the new Note 5 no longer has the long pressed back button to access the vertical multi window/task list of compatible apps. The real difference is that I was able to read/reply to messages via floating windows, even with non-compatible apps on my Note 4 like Mobdro (a free video streaming app for live TV as shown in my pics).

ETA: Watching YouTube videos and other compatible apps, no problem.

Ahh, I see what you are saying now. That is quite a specific use case, but it sounds like you're used to it and don't see a way to make aht work on the Note 5.

That may be simplifying it some. There might be many reasons for the Note 5 to be speedier. The extra RAM might help (though 3GB should be plenty). There is the faster UFS 2.0 storage, which is likely a bigger factor, along with a speedier CPU in the Note 5 as well. Take all 3 together, add in more optimized software IMO (getting from the camera app to the gallery app is light years faster now) and you get a speedier phone (as you usually do 1 year to the next :-) .

I have the Note 4 and now the Note 5. They're both great.

Yes, it kind of sucks. It also doesn't work when I am watching live events on ESPN, and a host of other non-compatible apps. With the Note 4, never an issue. With the Note 5, I have to stop the non-compatible apps altogether to read/reply to messages. Oh well.

Another missing feature from the Note 4 is the native music app...there is no music control on the lock screen of the Note 5. I also wished Samsung would have brought back the music voice commands, "stop/pause, play, next, volume up/down, etc". When I am in bed too lazy to move, it's convenient to call out especially when the lights are off.

I'm hoping when my unlocked note 4 firmware 5.1.1 the battery will improve and the lag will go.
If so staying with note 4... ( I travel in Asia a great deal so cloud storage for me is not feasible.
Also I plug my phone onto projectors someone mentioned that option has gone.. That would be a deal breaker.
Still beyond me why no 128 gb memory if trying to compete with iPhone.
Also recently had battery problem went to Samsung repair that swapped out the battery all fine now.. For me LG g4 pro looking good... Shame I was looking forward to note 5

Yup. All good points. that said, I still love the Note 5 now.

I'm getting the 5, but if the 4 had had better software support and was released today alongside the 5, the 4 would've been my choice, even if it meant having an older fingerprint sensor and less fancy S Pen and general design.

I went to vzw today to compare my old note 3 with note 4 and note 5. I intended to buy a note 4 refurb. The note 5 knocked my sox off. I love the screen tint. The note 3 and note 4 have a sort of neutral white beige tint. Note 5 a more blue tint. A photographer or videophile might hate it but I love it.

I will never actually buy it though. WAY to expensive. $700 my absolute max and I must pay full price to keep my udp.

I noticed the same comparing my Note 4 and 5 screens. Loving everything about it after 3 days so far...
