Note 5 vs Note 4 discussion

If they had been released at the same time, would you get a Note 4 or Note 5?

I went to vzw today to compare my old note 3 with note 4 and note 5. I intended to buy a note 4 refurb. The note 5 knocked my sox off. I love the screen tint. The note 3 and note 4 have a sort of neutral white beige tint. Note 5 a more blue tint. A photographer or videophile might hate it but I love it.

I will never actually buy it though. WAY to expensive. $700 my absolute max and I must pay full price to keep my udp.
Just in case not considered, I suggest you have the same display settings set for each to compare. That tint difference is typical for the display options.

There are display settings: Basic, photo, movie and adaptive. The bluest appears to be movie. Can't recall settings on N5, but the lack of SD killed my enthusiasm to spend too much time.

My Note 3 was on Movie but the Note 4 and 5 were on top pick which is the standard. I don't find tint is altered- just the contrast

I would have picked the note 4. Although being able to write on the phone when the screen is off (Note 5). would have been mighty tempting

We can do that already on the Note 4 in Setting. The only difference with the Note 5 is on a dark screen vs a color screen on the Note 4.

Thanks for the info. I have only had this phone for 3 months, i will go into settings to look for this

Note 4 updated specs or not.

I won't own a glass back on a phone.

I will eat my own words, since I now own a glass backed Note 5.

I have been on pins and needles since getting it last week and not having a good case to put it in.

The phone is great but slicker than snot holding it. It hasn't really changed my perspective on the poll though because the 4 is still a great phone too.

I may wind up with a different phone if my case doesn't come in in a day or two.

I fell in love with the edge plus but that screen is just designed to be broken. Even with insurance I think it costs $150 for a refurb when I break it.

What you're saying -- or at least seem to be saying, as I don't want to misunderstand you -- is very interesting.

You seem to be saying that you prefer the glass back of the Note 5 BUT you want/require a case for it; even going so far as to say you 'may wind up with a different phone if [your] case doesn't come in a day or two."

But wouldn't a case hide and negate the value you see in having a phone with a glass back?

This is hilarious. The lure of a new and shiny object is strong. How long had you had the s6 Active? 3 months?

If the note 4 were the new one and you lost a gig of ram (who needs it?) But gained ir blaster, removable battery, and sd card capability for LESS money would anybody be so disappointed with the slightly slower processor that he wouldn't buy the note 4? Just switch the numbers and release dates and the note 4 might be Samsung's biggest hit!

Sorry for the confusion. I don't really care about the glass back on the Note 5, or any other glass backed phone.

I did get a really nice leather case/wrap for the Note, so that slick as snot feeling is completely gone now.

I also understand that the cost of the phone is higher because of the glass and internal memory, and I would be just as happy with what comes on the Note 4 because it too is a great phone.

Now that doesn't mean that I dislike the Note 5 because it is what I have, but I can live with it just as well and enjoy the device.

Right now the battery life is excellent, I have a new Leaf micro usb adapter on the way to utilize all of my SD cards and have the latest Samsung offers in a Note and have a awesome leather backed phone to boot , so I am pretty darn happy about everything. The screen is gorgeous, it's super fast, sounds awesome, looks awesome, feels awesome... Hmm maybe I should change my vote...

I just bought a note 5. I was strongly considering a 4 for obvious reasons, but after doing a bunch of research and watching every video I could find I settled on the 5 for the following reasons.

1. Despite the smaller battery the 5 lasts longer
2. Speaker on the bottom > speaker on the back
3. toned down version of touchwiz that is less laggy
4. better s-pen functionality
5. After a brief love affair with my HTC One M7's IR blaster they discontinued support for the native app and I found the Play store's IR blaster app selection to be lacking. Also there were certain functions I just couldn't get to work, so I dug the remote out of the couch and moved on.
6. Slightly narrower and easier to hold
7. Only $72 more than the note 4 on verizon
8. Can't hurt to have better specs down the road, everything seems to bog down after a couple years no matter how fast it was.
9. Slightly better screen and camera
10. Faster charging

So far I love it.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm annoyed about the lack of SD card, glass back and removable battery. The glass back will just be hidden by a case anyway so what's the point?
