I'd double check your facts on this because Samsung is not the only company moving away from SD cards. Check out the Nexus 6 heck of a device , correct? Tell me what you see..er...don't see. The companies you mention have all done the same thing at one time or another. Who knows, if its an epic fail Samsung can always add the functionality back in the future. Not the end of the world.
Actually, the Nexus One has an SD card slot.Nexus phones have never had SD card support. From the first Nexus to the N6. Every Nexus tablet has not had SD card support.
Here's another reason to get rid of the SD cards - this is an excerpt (from this page: Storage wars: do we really need microSD cards in our phones? | TechRadar ):
"According to a study carried out by Hyojun Kim at the Georgia Institute of technology, using a microSD card in your phone can cause it to become sluggish, with even basic tasks like web browsing suffering as a result. Overall performance can often drop by between 100% and 300% and in one case the study found that there was an incredible 2000% decrease in performance."
SD cards have an obvious advantage - but also come at a price.
While i can't argue with the idea that a 128gb S6 or Note 5 with its faster memory controller will out perform a Note 4 with a 64gb card (obviously the hardware is newer and faster but I'm talking memory performance in general), I take issue with the drawing of conclusions as to the degree of performance hit made by the article given the methods used in the study. Read page 4 of the study and pay particular attention to the reference to the 3rd and 2nd to the last paragraphs. How many users are going to repartition their phones to force system cache and all application data to live on the slower microSD card? None, because cache needs to run on the fastest memory possible. Again I have no issues with the concept that internal memory is faster but the article and study is misleading. ..

I second that.
I use an SD card the same way like everyone else; to store media. My phone hasn't slowed down. Not once.
Isn't it possible that Samsung could produce more than one version of the Note 5, as they have done with the S6. Maybe a version aimed at power users that keeps the SD and removable battery?
