Note 8 fell face down. Screen shattered.

Yep, happend this morning. Phone still works but now my screen is all taped up to prevent fingers from getting glass cuts.

I have no insurance and 1st time to ever break a phone. My luck.

I called samsung and they can replace the screen for $293 if I send it in. Obviously this is cheaper than having to buy another one but I want to hear people's experience on this forum with Samsung repairs. Is this a good option and would the phone be back as it was new. Does samsung do quality screen replacements? Would appreciate sharing your experience with me. Thanks!

Edit, nvm. Hope everything works out. Let us know whether you get a replacement or your original!

At least you still kept your sense of humor. Seriously, I can't afford not to have insurance on these overpriced toys. With this being such a new phone, hopefully you'll get another phone. Good job with the skin on back of phone so you'll know for sure.

My phone just did a face down splat on the concrete, it was on a table, the wind gusted and blew an umbrella at the table next to us into our table and my phone ended up face down under a full cup of Starbucks PSL. Only damage was to the tempered glass, whew.

Here's the one I had on it:

Galaxy Note 8 Screen Protector, [ Case Friendly Tempered Glass ] [Hassle Free Application] EURPMASK Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Screen Protector [Easy Install] [Anti Scratch] with A Free Back Cover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074V4FF8...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU5998959

Thanks for sharing the tempered glass. Might need to think about having one. Never liked them before but with the drop that busted my phone, I might need to reconsider. Yet again, I am really not sure that would have saved the phone either. It was a solid face down drop.

I don't think any case would have prevented this. But I now want good edge protection even more.

Tech 21 makes a case that has a folio front, seems pretty nice and offers complete protection of the front.

Of course the negative is obvious.

I don't see the question asked, but I see you said you bought straight from Samsung. Samsung was offering free 2 month converge. Did you see that?

This all speaks to the importance of having a good screen protector and case! Good luck with the repair OP and hopefully lesson learned! (Been there myself)

Depending on where you live, there may be a local store that can do it and it may be less expensive. In our area, there is a franchise called UBreakIFix. I dropped my S7 and shattered the back and the replacement was very reasonable. Look for reviews of their work, but it would avoid having to be without your phone. And my experience is-Samsung customer service is among the worst I have ever encountered.

A friend of mine actually carried their Note 8 in it's original box and carrier bag until his case came a few days later. We used to call him constantly just to laugh at him trying to unbox it all just to answer

Uneven concrete? Sounds like a trip hazard... Maybe you tripped and fell and shattered your phone in the process. Call one of those ambulance chasing lawyers.... Could have a solid case on your hands. Ha

The truly sad part is, as these phones get more expensive, that sort of tactic might actually become attractive to the "morally flexible".

Flat face with case with edges just makes more sense to me. I will never understand using curved glass on the front nor any kind of glass on the back.

Hilarious! But I understand.

Here in Oz we have 12 months free screen replacement by Samsung for registering after purchase.

Yep... Happened to me, too. Hand-talker next to me on the curb got a little too animated and launched my phone into the street, which was, predictably, covered in pebbles and all sorts of chaff.

Her only comment to me? "You've got a warranty, right?"

I count ten separate impact points, all further in than the lip on the case I have, which is a Spigen. I'm really not sure what sort of case (that I'd be willing to carry) could have protected from all of them.

I'm setting up the replacement unit as we speak, $200 poorer.

sigh

Just got my phone back from samsung. Looks freaking brand new with plastic wrap all around it. I can't be happier. I will be posting a separate post about that soon! Send it over to samsung, they did an amazing job for me.

Did you know her? Or someone just happened to be near you? That would dang near catch me a murder charge. Lmao. Sorry that happened.

She was at the same event I was, so I know people who know her, but this is the first time we met.

But, in an unusual stroke of easy-goingness, I managed to reason that she just didn't see me, and that this was a legit accident, and managed to not lose my mind.

Surprisingly, I was able to use the broken phone to place an Asurion claim on it, on the spot.

My only gripe about her was when I explained that even insurance meant I was going to be out $200, she never seemed remotely upset about it, providing yet more evidence that people are exactly as caring as I have always suspected, which is... not.

Sadly there are people that just don't care about other people's stuff. If I would have done that I would feel really bad and at least try to help pay for the damage. I'm glad you are able to get it fixed.
