Note 8 fell face down. Screen shattered.

Yep... Happened to me, too. Hand-talker next to me on the curb got a little too animated and launched my phone into the street, which was, predictably, covered in pebbles and all sorts of chaff.

Her only comment to me? "You've got a warranty, right?"

I count ten separate impact points, all further in than the lip on the case I have, which is a Spigen. I'm really not sure what sort of case (that I'd be willing to carry) could have protected from all of them.

I'm setting up the replacement unit as we speak, $200 poorer.

sigh

Yikes! Sorry this happened to you. That sucks. I hope you made ten separate impact points with her face.

Kidding. Probably.

She was at the same event I was, so I know people who know her, but this is the first time we met.

But, in an unusual stroke of easy-goingness, I managed to reason that she just didn't see me, and that this was a legit accident, and managed to not lose my mind.

Surprisingly, I was able to use the broken phone to place an Asurion claim on it, on the spot.

My only gripe about her was when I explained that even insurance meant I was going to be out $200, she never seemed remotely upset about it, providing yet more evidence that people are exactly as caring as I have always suspected, which is... not.
I would've been livid, I can understand accident, but she should've paid your deductible or at least offered to pay half minimum! I'm sorry that happened to you, I would've possibly slapped her iPhone (i know that's what she had right.) right out her darn hand after getting that inconsiderate response from her.

Sadly there are people that just don't care about other people's stuff. If I would have done that I would feel really bad and at least try to help pay for the damage. I'm glad you are able to get it fixed.
Same, I have paid a friend's parking ticket because she only got it waiting N extra 1 min for me to close my computer down to leave the office. It's just the right thing to do.

That was nice of you. And yeah it is the right thing to do. The lady that broke his/her phone probably would have been all over him/her to pay for hers.

So glad it worked out for you @Lepa79 ! Now PUT a screen protector on that bad boy ASAP!!!!!! lol

Same here. I'd go nuts if something like this happened to me. If I knew their name I'd take them to small claims court or something. The lady probably did have a stupid POS iPhone. If you slapped it out of retaliation they'd probably call the police.

You know they would lol and you'd get charged with assault and damaging property lol.

My daughter has an S7, she dropped and cracked the screen. Took it to the Sprint store and they have Samsung rep there, claimed since it was still within the year warranty they would fix it for 200. Took an hour.

Me I have Squaretrade, 99 dollar deductible.
Me too. $65/yr and $99 deductible. But I can take it to a ubreakifix and get reimbursed too

Hi Fr0gburp3r, what is the model case shown in your photograph? We just purchased Note 8s and are afraid to leave the house until we purchase a good case.

thanks

I am the OP that smashed his screen. While the case I had at the time was solid Ringke case, I just got a new Spigen one today and it is PERFECT.

got the matt blue and it is great looking and tons of protection. Not tons of bulk, just perfect and well balanced. Give it a try.

For folks asking, yes I bought the phone full price from Samsung site itself. It's an ATT varient with no insurance.

I stopped at a local repair shop today and the guy said they don't have the right parts yet but when they do, it's going to cost at least $500 to fix. WTF

So I called Samsung and started the repair process. I have the shipping label and it's going of to them to fix. I have dbrand skin on the back, so if they ended up sending me a new one, I will now :)

I'll come back and update this thread when it's sent back to me.

And here is the case I had one for people who are asking again

Did you have this case on when the phone dropped and broke?

Yes, I mentioned in earlier posts. The phone dropped flat face down on concrete. Worst possible drop. It didn't even bounce when it hit the ground. All the energy got absorbed by the screen and the results were not pretty.

Yep, happend this morning. Phone still works but now my screen is all taped up to prevent fingers from getting glass cuts.

I have no insurance and 1st time to ever break a phone. My luck.

I called samsung and they can replace the screen for $293 if I send it in. Obviously this is cheaper than having to buy another one but I want to hear people's experience on this forum with Samsung repairs. Is this a good option and would the phone be back as it was new. Does samsung do quality screen replacements? Would appreciate sharing your experience with me. Thanks!

Shop around. Find the replacement glass, probably very cheap if you buy direct from China. Then hire a 3rd party professional cell phone repair person that would charge you less.

Curved screens come at a cost. Easier to crack.
