Note 8 Ultra poor battery life

How is your battery life on Note 8?

Two things I've noticed since Oreo:

The auto screen brightness is higher than what I had it trained to produce prior to the update. I will need to adjust it down a few times to get it retrained for a lower level.

The Always On Display sucks down a lot more power than it used to. I set the phone face down last night, and since that shuts down the AOD, it had used no power overnight, and that helped a lot. It seems like the AOD is a lot brighter now. Maybe there's a way to dim it more.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. Clearing cache didn't help atall. Also, some other thread suggested uninstalling Facebook and all it's services. As I don't use Facebook very much, I disabled all of it's services. Still nothing.
Anyways, I charged my device to 100% before sleeping at 11:00PM and woke up at 9:00AM to see 89%.
Mobile data was off. Screen was in 1440p. All recent apps shut off. No power saving mode.
Is this normal?

I used to lose around 5% over night but after Oreo update losing around 10%. I hope it will settle in a week.

Your Android System seems to be sucking a lot of power for some reason. Might want to try and clear your system cache as well as the cache of internal storage. Instructions to do both below:

Note 8 storage cache clear: settings- storage- internal storage- cached data- tap on it to clear

How to wipe the cache partition on the Note 8:

Back up data on the internal memory. I've never lost any data from this process, but just in case, back up important stuff.

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

When the Android logo on a blue background displays, release all keys ('Installing system update' will show for about 30 - 60 seconds before showing no command for a few seconds followed by the Android system recovery menu options).

Press the Volume down key several times to highlight 'wipe cache partition'.

Press Power button to select.

Press the Volume down key until 'yes' is highlighted and press the Power button.

When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted.

Press the Power key to restart the device.

Attached is my battery life yesterday or the day before, can't remember.

How else are you getting so much screen time?

Do you have any auto cache cleaners running?

I did switch the AOD off on my phone a few days ago, and that has improved the battery drain when I'm not using the phone. It now drains very slowly when I'm not using it.

And I have the power saving off, and am in high performance mode. It appears that the AOD was a big culprit in draining my battery while the phone was not in use after getting Oreo.

Maybe they will address this in a future update. Prior to Oreo, The AOD was dimmer, moved to a new position on the screen periodically to prevent screen burn, and didn't drain my battery nearly as fast as it does now when enabled. With Oreo, it seems to drain my battery rather quickly, stays in the same position, and is quite bright. So I'm going to just leave it off for now.

Hi,
I'm using a Note 8 which runs Exynos 8895 . I have moderate use and about 100 apps installed. I'm really hesitant about a factory reset. After full charge, I barely get 12 - 14 hrs even after charging the device 2 times. Check out the log below. The 'P' indicates medium power saving mode.
I run at 1080P most of the time. Always on Display is on but due to the LED cover, the AOD remains off.
Is there a battery issue or is this poor battery performance normal?
I was using a Note 5 previously and it's battery life was excellent. It would easily last me a day.
It loses about 4-8% every 45 minutes with mobile data on!
I even turned off background data usage but about the same SOD...

Please suggest.
Sorry to hear this.

Going by your screenshot, you have a Dual SIM Note8, yes? Was your Note5 dual SIM to?
This could be a major contributor to Battery Drain with the phone trying to stay in contact with 2 different sims.

These phones tend to use a lot more power when using Mobile Networks alone vs. WiFi and Mobile Network , notice how everyone who gets great battery life is connected to WiFi. It takes more power to for the phone to keep a consistently stable Internet connection with a Mobile Network than WiFi hence why you are seeing higher drain.

What's your screen on time? 4-8% every 45 minutes isn't really bad if it's under usage. If it's idling then it is bad. Very hard to compare battery performance based on a generic statement of "how many hours you get"

I've disable security because I have to send it back to Samsung repair tomorrow. Noticed that in my case, disabling AOD and any kind of security pretty much adds a few hours to battery life.

I think that the Iris scanner is to blame here, my guess is that it's always trying to scan something.

Absolutely brilliant solution, clearing the system cache. My Note 8 is new and was fine for a week or two, then the battery went downhill... more like fell off a cliff. I had done all of the usual power saving things as mentioned previously, but running this fix REALLY works! With regular use I now easily get over a day's usage.
Thanks for the excellent and constructive help.

hmmm, for me it was Instagram background activity...it shows 11 hours background activity(whatsapp has 4 hours background activity and i use whatsapp way more) so i disabled background activity for Instagram...

Any social media app. running in the background will zap your phone, that's YOU having permitted it, NOT Samsungs fault.

Yeah the battery life is awful on this phone. Beautiful phone and screen and the S-Pen is cool, but what good is it if you have to be attached to a charger all day. I'd like to be able to at least last until I go to bed. I'm losing battery life about 5% or so every 30-60 mins without even touching the phone. And that's on power saving mode. It says my estimated battery life is 10 hours ATM but I know that ain't gonna happen. It's at 62 currently and I've BARELY used the phone today.

I really hate the fact that I have to lower the resolution and can't watch videos in 4K just to save battery since this device has such a beautiful, saturated screen.

Have you tried some of the things listed above, like clearing your cache from the phone powered off state? Or disabling social media apps?

I was in early on the Note 8, and my battery life is as good now as it was at the beginning, which is very good. I don't use any social media apps and I delete the system cache every couple of weeks. Awesome phone that I will be keeping a long time.

How do you disable this?

so after disabling background activity for instagram.my battery life improved a lot.like so much difference.

How do you disable this?

go to device maintenance.battery.then click battery usage.scroll down to instagram.and its there.uncheck allow background activity.only downside is no notif will appear for instagram but i can damn right live with it.
