Noticed I have earpiece buzzing... Is it even worth it to get a replacement?

I received my N4 last Thursday, and am loving it so far. I just noticed today that I seem to have the infamous "buzzing" earpiece problem. I can hear it in a quiet room when I put the earpiece about 1-2 inches from my ear. Not a big deal, but kind of annoying nonetheless. I'm wondering, do most N4's have this problem anyway? So is it even worth getting a replacement?

I have the newer revision with the two nubs on the back and the smaller camera opening, if that matters.

are yo sure its not your charger making the buzz? I dont have buzzing on my phone but my charger buzz when its plugged on the wall.

Yeah, it happens even when I'm not plugged in. And even when I'm not in a call.

Its quite loud if you can hear it from 1-2 inches away.. I had mine replaced because of the earpiece buzz but the replacement I received still had it although it was quieter.

Shoot.. Looks like I'm in for a replacement then. Sucks because everything on this phone was perfect. I really don't wanna risk getting another defective device though. Plus I don't really have the time to deal with RMA's. Does anybody know if they charge you for the replacement, and then once they receive one back they credit you? Because I really can't do that either lol.

Thanks! So I won't have to pay for two N4's on my next bill?

And what are the chances of me receiving a unit that doesn't have the buzzing earpiece? I may have exaggerated how bad it was... I can hear it faintly from an inch away and closer. It's not noticeable under normal conditions.

They just hold the amount of the cost of the phone until they receive your old device. The likeliness that the replacement will have some kind of buzz is high.. Tbh I just couldn't be bothered to get another replacement because of having to have to go through the process again and also backing things up etc. I can only hear my buzzing when it is dead quiet and I put my ear right up to the phone.

Yeah same here. It was to be near silent and I can hear it faintly if it's within an inch or less of my ear.

That's what I was wondering. I've read it's some kind of manufacturing defect and there's no electromagnetic shielding or something? So yeah, if it's already present in most of the N4's, I don't think I'll bother. I don't feel like going through all that trouble either, especially since I'll be getting the Nexus 5 in 6 or so months lol.

Couple of things
They don't charge your card. Google only places a hold on your card.

I'd RMA the unit.

What does a "hold" mean?

I want to, but honestly, like Rizy said (and I agree), I don't think it's worth the trouble when I'm going to be selling the N4 and getting the N5 in like 6 months.

It means they place a hold on whatever the cost of the phone is on your cars until they receive your defective phone. So a 350$ hold on your account until they receive your old phone. It makes it easy for them to charge you if you were to keep the new device and the old one.

Ah I see. So they don't actually charge me, and two N4 charges won't show up on my billing statement?

Just had deja vu.. Anyways maybe you should at least try once, the process is quick.. Have you been using your phone long? You just have to phone them, 5 minutes explaining what problem you are having and then theyll transfer you to someone who will explain the rma process. You get the email, click on the link and order another nexus 4. Luckily they are in stock now so it will be with you in 3-5 days. They even sort out the sending of the phone back to them, all you have to do is phone the courier to choose a suitable time for the pickup.

Nope, just got it last Thursday. Yeah just as long as the charge doesn't show up twice, I think I'll try it at least once. Is the number to call in the warranty booklet?

I didn't even know whether mine had this until I read about it and checked. Mine does it but the phone has to be pressed right against my ear in a completely silent room so I'm not going to bother replacing.

Yeah that's basically like mine. It's only noticeable in a silent room if I put it up to my ear, and then I can hear it faintly. I may try just one replacement.

One thing I've also noticed is that there is no buzz if there's something using the speaker as well, like music or the phone. It's only present when the phone is idle, so it's not actually affecting anything in use
