Notification LED on S10?

Just read this article that was posted today. There may be an update before launch they will enable the notification light:

“The camera cutout will indeed function as the notification light. It will be automatically colored based on the notification. I, along with a couple other Ambassadors, learned this from a Samsung executive after the Unpacked event in San Francisco. There will be a software update that will enable this on or slightly before launch,” user VerbumVeritum posting in the Samsung Community forums said (emphasis is ours).

Here is the thread (on the Samsung forums) that that person said it:

Downloaded for my s8+ last week to try out since we lost LED on the s10. After using it for a few days, I really think it will be a decent replacement. I have it set up so when I get a text the edge panels light up orange and stay illuminated for 5 minutes. The only thing on screen is the lit up edge panels. No icons or message content though they can be there if you like them. I also have emails set to blue. Emails light up edge panels blue for 90 seconds. And Facebook notifications are green and illuminate for 10 seconds. You can set the illumination for each app separately. Anything from 1 second to remaining on until you acknowledge the notification. It also has a timer for it so the app sleeps when you do and you don't have to worry about edge panels going off all night while trying to sleep. Note that you can add a lot of neat features. You can have it use your own background while illuminating, or just a black screen to increase visibility. You can also select icons on or off and their size for if you want to see the Facebook icon with the color you assign. You can have clock on the screen or off and you can determine when you want the panels to illuminate. For example, you can have them light up when you get a notification and the screen was off, or anytime whether screen is off or on or only after the screen is locked, etc. There are really so many settings. The menu is not super user friendly, but after playing for a bit you'll get the hang of it. The developer responded within a few hours when I was having an issue (user error) and was helpful. The whole app is free BUT, every time you save your changes you have to watch a 15-30 second video ad. Or you may purchase the app to remove the video ads for a one time fee of $2. When I try it out on my S10+ later today and into tomorrow and verify that it works just as well as it does on my S8+, I'll be purchasing the app.

That's nice to see. And I'm also more assured now that Samsung themselves will add this feature in an update.

If that 3rd party notification app already added it, then that's probably a more customizable option than what Samsung might offer anyway. Now people who already got theirs (mine is waiting at an UPS store...stupid work trip :( ) try it out!

I tried it on my 10 plus. Didnt work. But it's entirely possible I'm doing something wrong. Lot of options I didnt understand them all.

Thanks. Glad I'm not the only one. Lol

Like I said, it's really not very user friendly. Best thing to start is to choose how the app starts. Do that by selecting "When notification comes". Selecting that will open up the option to set individual colors and edge lighting for your apps.

Verified working on new S10 + Edge lighting is rotating around the screen in Orange, since that's the color I selected to indicate text messages. 20190307_082742.jpg

Is there anyway to keep the edge lighting on until you unlock the phone?

Yes. With the app we've been talking about. So for my texts, I have it set to light up edge panels in orange, and to stay on until I acknowledge the text. For emails, I have it light up blue, and stay on for 5 mins. For facebook, I have it set to 90 seconds. You can select how long you want it on for each app

How hard is the edge lighting on battery?
